Manuel Neuer is a legend who revolutionized the goalkeeper position with his abilities to defend not only the goal but almost half of the pitch, leaving the goal with an offense style of defending (sometimes referred to as "sweeper keeper"), and his abilities on the ball (briefly seen in the video) when passing the ball or while dribbling. His most legendary performances are probably his breakout game on the big stage, the Champions League game for Schalke, vs Porto, in 2008 (showing many great saves) and in the World Cup 2014 round of 16 match between Germany vs Algeria on the way to the title, where he showed many of those "defending one half of the pitch" moments.
He didn't really revolutionize the position as Lev Yashin already played like this all the way back in the 50s and 60s. Still, he is undoubtedly a legendary goalkeeper as he truly mastered this style of playing.
At the 2014 World Cup in Brazil , where Germany became world champions thanks to Mario Götze`s great goal against Argentina, he was arwarded the Golden Glove as the best goalkeeper of the 2014 World Cup. Such nice memories where the whole Germany celebrated together. He`s a great goalkeeper.🌎👍⚽🥅
It's not just that Manuel shows unbelievable reactions, he actually changed the whole game by how goal keepers are interacting with their team and became an integral part of the defence even far outside the penalty area and the offence
the video is not good because its most new stuff, but hes not "one of the best" he is the best keeper that ever existed. he isnt on his prime anymore but no one ever was as good as he was ... he redifined how keepers play. there is a time before and a time after neuer and new keepers nowadays are trained differently to be more like neuer.
Thats a bad Highlight Video of Manuel Neuer tbh... There were a lot saves, everyone could do... But he ist outstanding indeed, especially a few years ago and those were all pretty new
Neuer is the Goat of all Goalkeepers. These Saves aren t even his best tbh :D he did way more insane stuff. Look at "Manuel Neuer vs Porto" for example.
Manuel Neuer is the GOAT under the Goalkeeper. 1x FIFA World Cup Winner (2014), 2x UEFA Champions League Winner (2013, 2020), 11x German League Titles. 👏👏👏
Well... The titles don't do him justice. Ter Stegen won more titles, but Neuer is (or was) on a very different level. Not even this video can explain his skills.
Manuel Neuer is the GOAT. Just like Michael Schumacher as a racing driver, Neuer has changed his sport for all time. There is a time before Neuer and a time after. That´s it
Only rivaled by Oliver Kahn as best of all times. I think Kahn was the only goalie where opposing players were afraid to be eaten if they came too close...🤣
it wasn't only the opposing team that was afraid. From time to time we went after his own guys, to yell and sometimes even grab them if they didn't perform well enough for him as Captain.
The one that you referred to as not an impossible catch are actualy one of the hardest balls to tame. In order for such powerful and fast shot to bounce so many times and bounce so close to the ground it has to have enormous ammount of downward-forward rotation. With that much spin the ball is slippery as hell and will roll over your hands and forearms very easily. Extremely hard to catch.
I'm not big into soccer, but I remember watching one game (could be of the national team) where he blocked like 3 attempts in rapid succession. That was truly impressive. As well as his often seen forward positioning.
Not only is he one of the greatest but we have to speak about the position itself he revolutionized it by being a 'libero' as a goalkeeper more than often He was better with his feed than at least 50% of the players in front of him 😂
Manuel Neuer is a very lovely, humanity and funnie guy. Sometimes he have "einen Schalk im Nacken" 😂 It's not possible to hate him. His career is over😢 He was THE WALL and in my opinion, he was the point, why the german national team was so succesfull in the last years ❤ This are not his best saves....maybe it's new stuff....it's cool, but there's cooler stuff (for example worldchampionship)
He does have great reflexes and agility but that's not the most important bit. It's actually his "predictive algorithm" (for lack of abetter word) Knowing where the ball is gonna go before it goes. That's why many of these look like he just gets lucky a lot... On the long shots that go into a corner, yeah, reflexes and agility... but when the striker is three feet in front of you, reflexes don't do shit you have to be in the right position long before the kick happens.
Besides being extremely good and doubling up as a defender, he is also a prime example of the German keeping style. Goalkeepers used to make themselves big by spreading their arms out like Jesus on the cross. But the Germans found out that you can move your arms up much faster than down, so he defends the goal with his hands at waste height and if the striker aims the ball at shoulder height he will still get a touch instead of it passing under his arm before he could get his arm down.
It's not just the saves. Above all, it's the extremely good technique and playing like a libero or eleventh man in defense. He is extremely precise - even with long balls across the pitch. This enables a team to play a completely different kind of soccer (as Bayern Munich are currently doing again). Manuel Neuer has revolutionized the goalkeeping game.
British English is often closer, cause Germans and Brits love dropping their "R" in certain words in a very similar way. The closest to right the pronunciation of Manuel Neuer is German. 😉
As a German who has the first name Manuel, I appreciate your tries to pronounce it right. Essentially the "u" is pronounced like the "oo" in book, and NOT like the "u" in use.
A tip on estimating distances on a football /Soccer) pitch (field) - If you know that the penalty spot is 12 yards from the goal line, then you can see that each grass cut direction is 6 yards, meaning the keeper’s box is 18 yards. We use the grass-cut marks to relatively accurately estimate distances and to judge off sides. This is why, when, in 1994 the USA hosted the World Cup and cut circles and other silly patterns into the grass, there was an uproar from none US teams, fans and officials. If you want to use a sensible measuring system, i.e. Metric. 6 yards is 5.4864 meters. So if you just say 4.5 you are close enough, which is why Germans, for example, use the term 11-meter to mean a penalty from the spot.
Neuer is a monster . I am pretty certain that if he does not want a goal to happen it will not happen. I have seen Neuer play more or less solo against my favorite team in the bundesliga and his team flopped hard. but in the end he kept his house clean
It's not Menuel, it's Manuel (Man-Uh-L) and Neuer is read something like NOH-YAH-RRR - I hope you'll now get it (with a strong R accent at the end). Manuel is pronounced almost like in Spanish but not so fast and with more accent on the letters, especially on the consonants.
2:13 this was true until 4 years ago when they changed the rule, it used to be that way but now the goalkeepers team is allowed to receive the ball within the penalty area. The rule still applies for the enemy team though which is only allowed to enter the box once the goalkeeper made a pass. Kind of impressive that you knew that at the top of your head though!!
A hard hit ball can reach 100 miles per hour! But the tricky ones are the ones that hit a defender first and change direction completely! That's when you say :' I didn't see that one coming!'
A lot of the shots come with around 75 mp/h, I wanna see you trying to "catch" one of those. 😉 For me he is the best of all time, but you can't debate that he is in the TOP 5. "Die Wand: Hier kommt Prime Manuel Neuer" is a better compilation btw. This one is kind of boring and one of the worst.
When it comes to what you called "punting" (I guess?): These days the tactic applied most often is possession football, i.e. keeping the ball as much as possible within your own team. Punting is risky as it is hard to control who will get the ball in the end - someone in your own team or the opponent. So, these days, you usually try to build up your game slowly from the back by passing to the nearest defenders or defending midfielders and taking it from there.
Manuel Neuer is a german Hero. Even people who hate Bayern München love hin! By the way the A in his First Name is pronounced like the second a in garage 😊
In German man is never never never spoke as men, a is always always alway a clear "A" like in actual or arm, German is so simple , just one pronunciation not changing all, the way to different, like you in "all" , "man", " arm" three different "A"s, Not in German , So easy!!
english never know how to say it as in english A E U I are pronounced very differnet then in german and looking it up for 2 seconds is to much work so they continue saying it wrong for years ... lazy americans and english speakers i say xD
You just HAVE TO react to the video called "Fußballfans und Atmosphäre USA vs. Europe" (football fans and atmosphere USA vs. europe)!!! That would be so much fun to watch and an interesting insight into the football culture here! Also, thank you for your content, always entertaining to watch. :)
this video really doesnt show what is Manuel Neuer. These are ok saves but please watch another one, because these werent by far his best saves. this was only like the last 3-4 years
Goalkeepers get appreciated a lot. And although shooting goals is the most "flashy" thing to do, there are other positions that get creditted way more than the scorers. In recent history for germany there would be Kroos or Schweinsteiger who both are not scorers but excell at defense and especially in orchestrating the whole game to their liking. But if you want to know who is the true GOAT you should look into another guy from Germany who again is not a scorer but a defensive midfielder/libero: Kaiser Franz Beckenbauer. Him an Pelé from Brasil are the only two real competitors when you want to talk about the GOAT of Football, forget about Messi or Ronaldo. Sadly they both died recently, Beckenbauer in early 2024. Comparing Beckenbauer and Pele is like comparing Michael Jordan with Michael Jordan for Basketball or Wayne Gretzki with Wayne Gretzki and try to decide which one of them is the GOAT. By the way there was a time they both played for New York in the same team. Beckenbauer is the definition of Football, and he is a natural born winner.
i feel like this video doesn't do him justice, haven't seen anything from the 2014 Worldcup that match against algeria is still the first thing i think about when i hear his name, there should have also been some saves from the match against united where he basically made his name when he still played for schalke. Longballs from the goalkeeper are a thing, for example Neuer got an assist in the 2010 Worldcup Round of 16 against England that way so they are effective, i think he usually just throws the ball, because he is more accurate that way and mostly doesn't need the extra distance
Quick tip for pronunciation: Google Translate can read some languages out loud, including German. It should be able to pronounce most names properly, too. For the first name Manuel: it's stressed on the first syllable in German, not the last. Oh and it's 3 syllables in German, not 2. Ma-Nu-El instead of Man-Well. In general, stress is one of those things that are easy to get right but make you sound well wrong if you don't ^^
The German "A" is always pronounced like the A in "father", no matter whether it's short or long. And the German "eu" is pronounced like the English "oy". "Neuer" actually is German for "newer" (the way you pronounced it at first 😉). If you want to know how German words are pronounced you have to use Google Translate and choose "German" as language. At least here in Germany, the words or sentences in foreign languages are spoken by native speakers. "Your" translator still pronounced it as it was English. Greetings and love from Germany, Sabine
Punching the ball als a goalie is indeed not the best way to do it. Controlling the ball is always better! But I did the same as a kid and even felt cool doing it :D
Pronounding Manuel: Google gave the English pronunciation, the German would be: The "a" in Manuel is pronounced like the "u" in "fun" u like the "oo" in "took" el like the "el" in "level" You got his last name right.

These are just pretty normal and newer saves hes done. His craziest game was back when he was playing for Schalke against Porto in 2008. He kept a clean sheet with saves that we will probably never see again. I remember the face of pure disbelief in the strikers face when Neuer saved a header with his foot like a damn Handball keeper from 3 meters out.
these balls become fast. you have very low reaction time most of the shots. so catching is hard with the balls force. btw do oliver khan. mans a legend.
Tbh. He was only ok since he made so many mistakes in his career by trying to dribble out the other players. Also if you play at bayern münchen you don't have to be good in the goal with how many chances the enemy gets. Like ter stegen who just get shot in the face. Would be nice to see them at a club that isn't winning year after year.
Your Google translater pronoust his familyname right but his firstname wrong , you pronounced his first name before first better then the translater !^^
of course, as a Kid... what does this mean.. Football is adult stuff, serious business!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!;) the vid was bad quality neuer had way better saves
@assemblememe yea man, nice info
yeah no goalie covers almost half of the pitch. a stupid exaggeration to make people look better than they really are
This video doesn't show his skills. There are way better videos out there. That's just his normal goalkeeping not the really wild moments.
Yeah, these are only from last season.
Germany - Algeria 2014
Neuer‘s signature skill is rather how he plays the ball with his both feet as a goalie, his long and accurate passes.
Exactly - randomly mediocre saves. There are way better ones. Sometimes 3 saves in a row in 2 seconds…
Also 5 times best goalkeeper of the world.
It's not just that Manuel shows unbelievable reactions, he actually changed the whole game by how goal keepers are interacting with their team and became an integral part of the defence even far outside the penalty area and the offence
american football should really be called hand-egg 😁
American Egg-Throw 🤣
Maybe American Tackleball, American Yardball or American Passball
It's called football because it's one of the few remaining times Americans actually use their feet and not cars, trucks, ATVs or mobility scooters… 🤣
the video is not good because its most new stuff, but hes not "one of the best" he is the best keeper that ever existed.
he isnt on his prime anymore but no one ever was as good as he was ... he redifined how keepers play.
there is a time before and a time after neuer and new keepers nowadays are trained differently to be more like neuer.
Ryan, you should do a reaction to Oliver Kahn. Another famous german goalie who went batshit crazy from time to time....
Thats a bad Highlight Video of Manuel Neuer tbh...
There were a lot saves, everyone could do...
But he ist outstanding indeed, especially a few years ago and those were all pretty new
Since Tony Turek 1954,goalies are EXTREMELY appreciated in Germany. Might be a reason why we often had the best in the world.
Neuer is the Goat of all Goalkeepers.
These Saves aren t even his best tbh :D he did way more insane stuff.
Look at "Manuel Neuer vs Porto" for example.
In Germany it's Manuel Neuer - in the States it's Automatic Neuer...
The closest way to hear Google pronouncing a German name, would be choosing German instead of British English I guess !
German pronunciation would be Mah-noo-ehl (with the "eh" spoken as if you draw out the "e" in "ten").
We pronounce the "a" like in arch or in arm. Not Mänuel😂
Manuel Neuer is the GOAT under the Goalkeeper. 1x FIFA World Cup Winner (2014),

You need to watch Prime Manuel Neuer, all the saves are on another level to those shown in this video.
Manuel Neuer is the GOAT. Just like Michael Schumacher as a racing driver, Neuer has changed his sport for all time. There is a time before Neuer and a time after. That´s it
i feel its mostly new stuff of him and not stuff about his prime xD i cant see his legendary saves so the video is kinda meh
Daily reminder that Germany beat Brazil 7:1 in 2014
Only rivaled by Oliver Kahn as best of all times.

Ryan, you should watch Handball Goalkeepers! 🤯

Sometimes, yes. But the throwing is for more contol. Keep the ball in your own team.

wach EM 2024 - even after his injuries is he still one of the best goal keepers in the world 🌍!
PS: I live your vidios
Fun Fact: Manuel Neuer actually started out as a Football Player for FC Schalke 04 before he became a goalkeeper.
When it comes to what you called "punting" (I guess?): These days the tactic applied most often is possession football, i.e. keeping the ball as much as possible within your own team. You should check a compilation of attackers who got in Manuel Neuers way :-D
He punts directly to to attacker for a direct assist too.
Manuel "Newer" is a literal translation 😂
this video really doesnt show what is Manuel Neuer. These are ok saves but please watch another one, because these werent by far his best saves. this was only like the last 3-4 years
Neuer is one of the best footballers ever! But I think that's a bad video. I'm missing his best skills.

And now let him watch some videos about Oliver Kahn^^
1:53 he kept the ball in, because otherwise it would have been a corner kick for the other team.
More like man-oo-el noi-er ( pronounciation on first syllable)
Manuel Neuer always reminds me of Tom Hanks
i feel like this video doesn't do him justice, haven't seen anything from the 2014 Worldcup that match against algeria is still the first thing i think about when i hear his name, there should have also been some saves from the match against united where he basically made his name when he still played for schalke.

Our legend
For 21 million euros a year, this is what you can expect :- ]
Not manwel newer😂 Ma Nu El Neu Er😂 but his national career is over😢

There are much better compilations of neuer
12:00 because they've put their foot in their mouth when naming it and had the balls to go with it
3:09 Don't use the s-word.
Football: ⚽
_American_ football: 🏈
Should have included the sweeper keeping against Algeria

Punching the ball als a goalie is indeed not the best way to do it. Controlling the ball is always better!
But I did the same as a kid and even felt cool doing it :D
The football in USA has the length of almose a foot
Pronounding Manuel:
Google gave the English pronunciation, the German would be:
The "a" in Manuel is pronounced like the "u" in "fun"
u like the "oo" in "took"
el like the "el" in "level"
You got his last name right.
You should have watched the one with German commentary, you would have heard his name correctly as well
00:08 impressive showcase of how language evolved. "Neuer" literally means "newer".
11:14 does anyone know the name of that song?
Fair to say, if it weren´t for our keepers, our national team wouldn´t be half as successful as they are.
The goal is 8 tall and 8 wide ;-)
ma-NOO-el
Plsssssssss react to: Im Fire Im death in different Languages IT IS SO EPIC !!!!!!
0:38 at this point, just write it into google translator 💀
Mahnoo-el Noyrr
This really isn't a video of his best safes. Look up NEUER VS Porto or Neuer vs Algeria if you want to know about him.
Well, the shots that are catchable are often not that spectacular so there's a bias to why you don't see that stuff in highlight reels.
Pronounciation: Mah-nooh-al Noy-yer
If you impressed by that, you should watch best saves by Handball keepers.
0:08 You're pronouncing it as "newer" which coincidentally is what the word "neuer" means:
neu = new
neuer = newer
am neusten = the newest
PS: When it comes to pronouncing German words you can check out dictcc or Wiktionary to get audio recordings of the proper pronunciation.

throwing it to your own players in your own half is more effectice to keep the ball and plan a coordinated attack
sometimes you still see a punt if the team wants to go for very quick counter attack if the situation arasis but its rare..
its indeed a very amateur way of playing to always punt the ball down the field
Only the 'murricans would call a game 'football' that is played with an egg using your hands....
In German it's not pronounced 'man-wel', more like 'muh-noo-ehl'.
Das ist nicht Manuel Neuer, das ist meine Freundin
Hat dir deine Freundin auch einfach coke zero andrehen wollen? :(
No the rule that the players get out of the box was canceled
He basically retired Yesterday.
these balls become fast. you have very low reaction time most of the shots. so catching is hard with the balls force. btw do oliver khan. mans a legend.
This video makes me want to watch some ball game with Ryan.
Oliver Kahn war auch eine Legende in Deutschland
Kannst du dir ja mal anschauen
Liebe Grüße aus Deutschland 😅
Maybe I'm not your girlfriend. Maybe I'm Manuel Neuer
He can do better.
