Skunks earned my love for this behavior. I was weeding an overgrown garden bed and found a nest of wasps that were very upset about me clearing out the cover and chased me pretty far. Next day the nest was dug up and gone. Skunk got revenge for me.

Caught a skunk in Sacramento. A abandoned very young skunk. Raised it and trained it to walk on a leash and crawl all over me. Never sprayed me once. Ended up letting him loose after about a year. He never left my property for about another 6 months and met some friends and never saw him for nearly a year until he showed up on our porch said hello and left with his buddies.
You don't want a skunk infestation. They're pretty bold because all would be predators steer clear of them. They think nothing of strolling into your house when you leave the door cracked, and you can't get them out without ruining everything you own.

This just happened to my wasps nest by my front door. I love how predators help to balance nature. I was never going to get rid of the wasps, but I love that skunks will remove it for you.
Your back yard is like mine. I have a skunk I call elvis, he loves eggs and grain free cat food, he's wild but let's me get within 3 to 4 feet of him. My nest of yellow jackets just loved the butterscotch discs I put out for them this August. It kept them from trying to get my coffee all August. I have so many night videos of my backyard Skunk backing the eggs I leave out for him to his den. It's funny the way they move eggs around without breaking them. Love your content.
I love the stinky boi! He looks pretty young. We only have one type of skunk where I live and they all look like that, but they are twice as big. He probably is just newly separated from his mom which is why he is so friendly and playful. Baby skunks typically don't have very good instinct for avoiding humans.

She lived in the house like our cat and begged at the dinner table like our dog. In the winter she would hibernate under our freezer and only come out for food and water. She played like a cat but was a little rough in her play. You definitely didn't tease her at dinnertime as she'd rip a finger open if you got near her food.
Skunks are lovable. They have very little fear of humans -- great horned owls are their only major predators because great horneds have almost no sense of smell -- and they'll even come around right to your feet to look for food, if they're used to you. They make good pets too if they're descented. Lovely soft fur.

I found a huge wasp nest in my yard and had to stop mowing. A few days laters, the ENTIRE nest was dug out and a hole big enough for a cat was left behind. This must have been what happened. I had no idea there were skunks in my neighborhood. Glad to have him honestly, he really helped me out.

We have a striped skunk that moved onto my mom's property, and I was able to convince my mom to not call pest control because we also have lots of yellowjacket nests in the ground, and it's a constant battle against mice. She's now happy to let the skunk stay if it will eat wasps and mice!
I took my kids to Centre parcs and I absolutely loved waking up 4/5 o’clock in the morning to watch the wildlife. It’s nothing compared to what you get to enjoy , It was still mesmerising. If the skunk is related to a weasel you wouldn't want the girls to meet it or any of it's cousins! So maybe not so cute but amazingly hardy to withstand angry wasps.

He felt safe or he would have not stayed for you to film him. I believe this will all my heart. I also believe if he was scared he would have never come up to you like he did. Did you see him doing any stomping of his feet? From what you showed us he was perfectly comfortable to eat his meal with you watching. Kudo to you for staying calm.
I saw a video of a mommy and babies go up to a man out on his bike. He stopped to watch and they came right on over to him. I love to watch mommy and babies of different species out side.

Getting sprayed isn't really a big deal. If you live where that may happen. just keep a good lot of tomato sauce to wash with. The tomato kills the smell.
There's a kind of a hawk which feeds on wasps, bees and their larvaes, looks like any other hawk and it's a migratory bird, winter spends in middle east and Africa, summer in Europe
They hunt at night when the yellow jackets are not active basically they just spawn camp at the entrance and disturb the nest eating them one by one as the yellow jackets come out. Their fir also offers some protection from stings.

My grandad actually had a hornet issue in the front yard for a few years running when I was small. They'd set up residence in an old, sunken stump, and he couldn't get rid of them for anything... then one early fall day he woke up to a crater in the yard with a family of raccoons clustered around and in it. They ate *everything*.

We've had three big nests dug out in the last three nights. I didn't know if it was a bear, skunk, raccoon, or possum. Whichever it is, keep it up. The yellow jackets have been awful this season. There are at least 25 - 50 in my hummingbird feeder every other day.
It was thought for many years that skunks were members of the weasel family (mustelidae). More recently, based on genetic differences, they have been placed into their own family, mephitidae.

It was thought for many years that skunks were members of the weasel family (mustelidae). More recently, based on genetic differences, they have been placed into their own family, mephitidae.

When they do, it doesn’t bother them. They will also raid beehives, making them pests to beekeepers.
