Oh Angie! Fantastic video! Both the shirts look gorgeous. I love how you experiment with the different ways of dying the same color. Thanks so much for doing this. Your one of the Best tie dye artists on RUclips!
Thank you so much, Tim! You are too sweet. I have a science background and so experimenting is pretty common for me. I think it's always interesting to see how some of the experiments turn out.
Love this video ... especially the analysis! Your point about this compares "your" specific style/choices. How you sprinkle dye, the ice size, etc, etc. Great point - it's art! Also learned from the additional hoodie analysis. Thank you!!
Hi Angie. They both look great, but I much prefer the inclined. Can't wait to try one. You have earned your subscribers and more but what impresses me is that you manage to respond to so many. Therefore, please don't bother with mine. I'm saving you for an important question as I have so many (snickers). Love your style, kiddo.
The scientific method. Come up with a hypothesis, develop an experiment to determine a result, compare result to hypothesis. Great job of experimenting and allowing everyone to see your results. In comparison the twist shirt looks like an explosion in space and the scrunch shirt looks like when that explosion has settled down millions of years later. Both are very awesome and this color is spectacular.
I'm curious at heart and have a science background, so experimenting is pretty common for me. I love your description for the two shirts. The incline does look like an explosion and the TDS looks like a more settled version of the explosion. 😀
Love this! Thank you for sharing! I keep seeing people posting their "twist" dyes and I hadn't seen any "fold" instructions. Thankfully someone linked this video. Definitely going to try tomorrow.
I, too, am amazed at all of the different colors from just one dye!!! I am partial to the incline twist. I love the bright, vibrant splits!!! Great experiment, Angie, as usual
Thank you for this experiment, they’re both nice but the incline twist-wow! The hoodie is fantastic too. This is such a fun hobby, nothing is ever the same. ❤
Wow! Amazing how different they look using the same dye. This tells me I only need one dye with the right color splitting to get several different looking shirts. Technique appears more important than color. Thanks for another great video.
Thank you! Yes, I think it's amazing how many splits this dye has. I've seen other people post their shirts on facebook using this dye color and each one looks so unique. You could definitely do several shirts with it and get a different look.
Both cotton T shirts are stunning!!! They're both gorgeous and the colors are gorgeous. I like them both and I would wear them both but I think my favorite is the TDS. That's amazing how when you showed the sweatshirt it's the same exact colors but totally different colors come out on polyester.
They are both stunning and the shapes of the color spreads are so different on each shirt. Thank you for the demo. I’ve been experimenting with the same color and different folding techniques too. Always a surprise!!
This is fantastic thank you! I have a few of these dyes and haven't liked any of them. Your twist I would be over the world about. I am going to give it a try now that you have shown how much dye you used! Thank you thank you thank you!
Thank you so much! The incline twist is my favorite too. I think it's a great way to use some dyes that split really well, and the design lets those splits really shine. Some people really love the TDS, but I've had a few too that I wasn't too excited about. 🙂
This color is amazing and I imagine any garment or fabric in any fold with look amazing. The various color splits just take this dye to another lever altogether. I really love both shirts and the hoodie. I you hadn't seen that you used 1 color, an onlooker would assume it was an array of colors. I'm just blown away. I would love to see a geod with those splits.
This color is amazing! It has beautiful color splits and I agree that it would look beautiful no matter what it was used on. I agree that it would look great on a geode.
Great experiment! I like them both, actually all three, thanks folks bringing out the sweatshirt. I think the incline shirt shows off the splits really well. Love the movement too. I think the whiffle ball is more subtle but more fun. Love the sweatshirt splits too. Now I'm going to have to get Strawberry Skies and use it like I plan on using Stormy Skies. Looks like I could make tons of shirts using the same color and get a plethora of different outcomes. Can't wait! Thanks, Angie!!! 🥰🥰🥰
Thank you! Yes, you need to get some Strawberry Skies - it is a beautiful color. I love Stormy Skies too, but it doesn't have quite as many different colors as Strawberry Skies. You're right though, if you used those colors on a variety of shirts - you would get a variety of outcomes.
I love these both, but I really love the blues in the twist. Happy cats has some really amazing colors and most amazing splits. The variations are crazy, but amazing!
Hi Angie. I think that the twist splits the color, more, possibly because the larger folds allow more dye migration and movement. Maybe more experiments with differing fold heights would help nail down more uses for these cool dyes, and how to use them to best effect. Cool! Keith M.
I agree that the splits show up more on the twist. I think the movement down the shirt allows larger streaks of the colors that have split out to show up. I had the same thought about fold heights and so I did an experiment using different size wiffle balls and even used some foil balls to see if the shirts looked vastly different.
are those colors from the same tub of dye ? or did you use multiple different colors and I missed that? Anyway, I love your videos.. your voice is very soothing!
Yes, I used Strawberry Skies from Happy Cat Tie Dye from the same container for both of the shirts. This single dye color has a lot of gorgeous color splits. Thank you, I'm really glad you like the videos! 😀
These turned out absolutely gorgeous.❤ which dharma colors would you recommend using to approximate strawberry skies? Happy Cat has been sold out for weeks.
Thank you! I don't know of a Dharma color that is close to Strawberry Skies. However, Dyespin has a couple of Dark Horse dyes that I think are similar. I think Elysian or Mind Bender would be possible substitutes. I have tried Elysian, but I haven't tried Mind Bender yet. The photos I've seen of Mind Bender though look like it has beautiful color splits that are similar to Strawberry Skies. Elysian does too, but maybe not quite as many splits as Mind Bender. Here is a link to Dyespin. They have the Dark Horse dyes in a separate area of their website from their regular dyes. www.dyespin.com/collections/dark-horse-ice-dyes
Hi Angie I think both shirts look great! I recently just purchased strawberry skies from happy cat but have not used it yet. I was curious how it might turn out doing a spiral ice dye or hot water immersion? Keep up the cool tie dyeing. Love your projects 👍😀
Looks like Happy Cat doesn't have this color in stock at the moment, can't tell from the site if they're planning to re-stock. Seems like this might be a mixture of different colors that could be created using other dyes, wondering if you have tried re-creating it by mixing dyes from Dharma?
No, I haven't tried re-creating Strawberry Skies. I think that Dyespin sells a color that is similar though. It's called, "Mind Bender". They sell 2 versions of it, A & B. I just got some in and swatched them, but I haven't used them on a shirt yet. The Dyespin website says that they are pretty much the same, but the B formula has more blue. Here's a link to it if you are interested: www.dyespin.com/collections/dark-horse-ice-dyes/products/coming-soon?variant=43973460099308 I hope Amanda restocks Strawberry Skies. I notice she is out of almost all her dyes.
I tried to do the twist with a hoodie and got almost not patterns at all. How tight do you think the twist was? I’m wondering if I should have used string to keep the twist from unwraveling.
I don't think it was how tight you twisted it - I think it was probably the fabric. Hoodies are pretty thick and I think the dye wasn't able to travel down the fabric as well as it does on a t-shirt.
Thank you! Most colors of dye are mixed colors and "split" out the component colors used to mix the dye when they are used for ice dyeing. A few colors are pure pigments and won't split when used for ice dyeing. When any of these colors are used as a liquid, they don't split. They are a solid color. This particular color was mixed by Happy Cat Tie Dye specifically to give great color splits.
@@FunEndeavors now I get it :D tried my first one with modal/ Tenchel today. do you have any experience with it? And also I would like to try one with silk. I know one should use vinegar for silk with normal dyes, but how about dharma colours? Do you have any recommendations? Thank you!

This particular color was designed specifically for these cool color splits, they aren't all as spectacular as this one. I'm not sure about Dylon dyes. I am not familiar with those.

Great thanks for the responses..btw I didn't notice you had a video on the soda ash water solution until after I posted my question...my bad 🐿️
