Ths pedal inspired the brand new backing track on this video. I hope you dig it! This was the most fun I've had making a pedal video in a long time! (links in the description)
I love mine. Far from a one-trick-pony I find it pretty versatile, especially in conjunction with other pedals. Stacking it before other drives is great fun - using its fuzz to kick a Rat in the butt is a joy, and the gate will stop the Rat too. Also, surprisingly for such high gain, it deals with complex chords in a very clear way, I don’t know of any other such pedal that’ll maintain clarity of notes amongst SO much gain and filth. It sounds like a blunt instrument but it’s a hell of a lot more...
That pedal is really cool!! It’s awesome how experimenting with pedals or a new pedal can inspire or expand your riff repertoire. The intro riff jam was Rockin! Never hurts to add to the pedal arsenal.
I believe that is the newer version of the pedal that they made in conjunction with Jack White. The original version is just all black and doesn't have all the octave features. The noise gate works since it goes by voltage, when the voltage drops, there is no signal that can be picked up by that antenna so zero sound will get through. If you aren't wanting to keep that thing, I'll buy it off of you.
I can see this on some super cool lo fi garage stuff from metal to rock to punk, so like black keys stuff, jack white stuff, the hives valent thor a bunch others just cant think of the names, and all them super produced metal bands. Boring if every track or playing buy yourself.
I see using this in a similar way as the Direct sounds used on Redvolution and Black Dog. Just an angry tone either as an overdub or used in a softer backing for contrast.
This is a perfect example of writing around a pedal!!!!! This Plasma Coil is really heavy on the fuzz side (and I’m all about fuzz!!!) and I have to admit it takes some getting used to. You did a masterful job of incorporating this pedal to your playing! Not sure if I’m ready for this pedal but I applaud Gamechanger Audio for thinking outside of the box!!! Cheers!!🎸🎸🎸🎸🤙🏾🤙🏾
I love it. I think I'd use it a lot but will wait for some to show up on the used market. Feed a univibe and delay into that thing and descend straight into madness.
I saw this at NAAM a couple years back but thought it sounded like a bucket of farts. I normally like strange fuzzes but it didn't seem like it would cut through at all. If looked bad ass though. Maybe this newer version is improved sonically. Although I liked the original box better; it had a cool looking purple coil, not yellow like this one. Are there different colors now?
Wow! That's not just looks like but sounds as a Jack White stuff. This sound is so nostalgic for me, The white Stripes was a kind of game changer to me, they are the reason why I started to listen to vintage blues instead of metal when I was younger.
Can't wait for the Germanium version of that plasma. And it will be great when some boutique pedal builder creates a mythical version and also covers the entire circuit in black tone goop to protect his design. That was sarcasm by the way.
I am not an expert on these things but I could swear this is a fuzz running into a distortion running into a fuzz with a bit of blender and an electric drill added for good measure.
Enjoyed the review. Note that this sound (not how they got the sound) is similar (not exactly the same) to a Canadian pedal by Dr Scientist called "Frazz Dazzler" where they use a fuzz sound and vary the voltage giving that massive breakup sound. This new Plasma takes that further and adds octaves, harmony and modulation to give a unique tone. Well done.
Definitely a really awesome idea for a pedal! Sounds really good too, I can see why it inspired you to write that track! Great track and demo Shane, cheers mate!
As intriguing as this pedal is, you would absolutely NEVER be heard in a band’s mix. In most settings it seems to have even less mid content than big muffs
Keegzmusicnshtuff To be fair this is a different pedal with a different name. The “standard” pedal is called the Plasma Pedal whereas this limited edition pedal with the extra octave features etc. is called the Plasma Coil. If you pay attention to names then you shouldn’t get yourself confused. They also look pretty different (different footswitches, different graphics and colour scheme and even different colour plasma coil in the display window) so people should really be able to tell the difference pretty easily.
Which is exactly while black keys and white stripes are mostly just guitar and drums hahaha... also realising only now writing these band names next to each other that it sounds like a total setup, white stripes and black keys a keyboard makes!
It sounds a lot like the pedal I just got this afternoon...the Conquistador, Way Huge. A heavily gated, spitty, velcro "fuzzstortion"! Would you say it's kinda like that? With this one, you really have to play it to get the real feel - I'm getting that your one there might have the same properties. Also.. I thought mine looked Badarse til i saw yours! Also, also...so uncanny because I just ordered an analogue sub Octaver (Nether by tc electronic), to pair with my new fuzzstortion. And now you bust out this Badboy! EDIT: How come no Aussie link, only Sweetwater for Americans??
Nice review man. The plasma angle is a gimmick there's literally nothing that it does better than a Octave fuzz from Kingtone or Mythos and I think it actually sounds worse likely bc it has digital signal processing (i may be wrong) either way that did not sound 100% analog.
I was into it at first but as it went on definitely lost me, still cool to see but not sure I’d spend that much to have it sit after I got bored of the fuzz haha
Hey Shane great channel. That opening sounded very much qotsa inspired. I’ve got a question for you that’s a bit off topic. Is it harder to bend strings on a floyd rose bridge compared to a standard trem? Because I took a squire Tele through its paces and then I tried an Ibanez rg and believe or not I found the Tele a much better guitar. Btw prs se custom 24 guitars are awesome the necks are sensational and they are worth every cent cheers 👍👍 keep up the great work 👍👍
A lot of cool sounds in there. But also, a lot of sounds which quite frankly just sound broken lol I'd be thinking there's something wrong with some dude's amp if I heard some of those sounds at a show.
No, no and no. I have a criminally expensive fuzz habit and here it is, another essential fuzz I MUST BUY. Feeding my children can wait. Off for another sweaty sleepless night obsessing about something I don't need.
NEVER heard a good demo of this thing yet! (Until now!) You made it sound good Shane, but meh, it still isn't great. Has some good features, the Tesla coil vibe is interesting. It's just way TOO crackly sounding to be used all the time. IF the fuzz it produced was smooth(er) like in the middle of the note, you could do something with it. Idk, seems like a pretty niche sort of effect! Good demo dude!
It would be fun to mess around with for about 10min then get old fast.. I like the fact that it's different, the only problem is that it's different NOT in a good way and expensive to top it off! No Thank You..( Reminds me of the Miku pedal in the fact it will make you laugh for about 10 min and get old after that)
Years? You are completely wrong. They made this this year and he just started selling them not too long ago. That's why he is doing a demo of it because it's a fairly new pedal.
This is one of those rare pedals that is totally useless to me. Pure gimmick. complete waste of money and the time it takes to play with the settings in a vain, forlorn hope of ever getting anything out of it that might resemble anything musical out of it... ...and I want one.
Great playing. Great review. Complete ass of a pedal. I guess if you like that sort of thing, it may be a good pedal, but to my ear, there was not one usable tone or sound. Ear grating, annoying, and generally just a pedal I would rather bin than ever use.
It annoys the crap out of me why some people have to make such knobbish comments about how the pedal has no usable sounds, well if you’re some blues purist who can only play through a 335 and a vintage fender twin with original matches valves etc etc to get THAT sound (that practically every guitar geek loves) then ,nah, you won’t have the imagination to get a good sound out of it.But if you are like the rest of us and love something a bit different from the norm, this looks like some serious sonic nastiness! And yes I DO also have vintage instruments and a vintage valve amp but my creativity allows me to be more experimental Just look at Matt Bellamy from Muse as an example of a stunning player who uses some crazy ass sounds (Check out his Manson guitars with built in chaosphere)

A great feeling when a new piece of gear inspires and helps you create something new or different, makes the purchase even more satisfying.

Other band name i was thinking of, Eagles of death metal and their cover of god of thunder specifically.
I see using this in a similar way as the Direct sounds used on Redvolution and Black Dog. Just an angry tone either as an overdub or used in a softer backing for contrast.
This happened to me
I always thought this pedal would sound great in an actual mix rather than solo'd. I think this proves that
That.
Thing.
Is.
AWESOME.
I really like it! Thanks, man!
"We got stoned one night and tazed our lead guitar player during a set. He never sounded so gnarley! So we came up with this pedal." :)
I literally just want this pedal to display on my pedal board but never find a reason to use. Awesome
Out of all the demos, you’ve made this pedal sound useable. Nice licks.
My original TS9 makes similar noises when it needs a new battery 😊

Definitely a unique pedal. I really like your genuine laughter at the end of the video Shane. Great job and awesome pedal.
Awesome intro track, awesome tones and that "plasma coil" also looks awesome. Awesome to the power of 3
Thanks Tibor! Hope you're doing well man!

Man, I would love one of those, utterly bonkers, but like nothing else out there! Nice to see they have expanded the feature set as well.
I am not an expert on these things but I could swear this is a fuzz running into a distortion running into a fuzz with a bit of blender and an electric drill added for good measure.
Good job on the video. BUT it sounds like a Line 6 spider that has been left out in the rain. Not to mention every dog in the neighborhood is howling.
I love that kind of sound
What a buzz of a pedal!! Got to have that
You're the best Shane! That pedal sounds like a cheap ($50.00) amp turned up too loud; in my opinion... Rock on! Rip it up!

Man, don't forget to mention that there are two versions of the pedal, that one is the signature one with more features and more expensive :(
Jack White, Queens Of The Stoneage in a box!
Doesn't sound like a muff to me at all. You think so? Sounds more like a dying octavia
Well, Jack White was involved in it's development
Well done and thanks for sharing brother!
You should see some of the other Third Man collab pedals if you haven't already
Do they make this pedal for right handed people too?
It sounds beautiful! Is it safe? I know nothing about electrics, but that's an awful lot of volts. Maybe not one to play in the bath?
Volts don't kill, amps do.
Octavia Fuzz-like. Hendrix reinvented 🍁
100%
That pop and crackle reminds me of Jimi's bad lead at Monterey popping and crackling!

Cool intro Shane! Not really my cup of tea, but it's definitely Jack White in a box!

It’s like a fuzz... but it’s clear and you can hear the string.
Haha, I've never heard a fuzz box pedal called unique (well maybe the Big Muff Pi back in the mid Seventies)😅
I was into it at first but as it went on definitely lost me, still cool to see but not sure I’d spend that much to have it sit after I got bored of the fuzz haha
Whoa! It sounds like 1970s Prog Rock on steroids!
Should have made it into a Y shape and called it the Flux Coil. :-)
Great demo man! I really dig the tones! Kinda like if an MXR Blue Box and a Foxx Tone Machine had a love child! 🤙🏻😎
This whole design seems like a Rube Goldberg circuit.
Great review Shane, if you want to know what it sounds like and does then this review does it excellently. 🤘🏻🎸👍🤘🏻🎸👍🤘🏻🎸👍
I can't be the only one thinking this is Kyuss & QOTSA in one pedal, surely????
Hey Shane great channel. That opening sounded very much qotsa inspired. I’ve got a question for you that’s a bit off topic. On a Floyd Rose when you bend a string The Bridge moves. So it would probably feel easier.
My butt pedal can make the same tone after drinking a few pints of beer.
Whoa, I had an I Robot flashback.🙃
'1000s of volts'. I highly doubt it.
Put delays before it,, its better
A lot of cool sounds in there. But also, a lot of sounds which quite frankly just sound broken lol I'd be thinking there's something wrong with some dude's amp if I heard some of those sounds at a show.

Not that different/new, Jack White has been using/selling these at Third Man Records for years!!!
Years? You are completely wrong. They made this this year and he just started selling them not too long ago. That's why he is doing a demo of it because it's a fairly new pedal.
He released the Bumble buzz with Union Tube and Transistor years ago. Maybe you're thinking of that pedal.
