new V8 has a flat plane crank allowing it to rev up to 8,200RPM. They actually bought a 458 took it apart and used that tech to create this new stangs engine. VS 6,000RPM for the Hellcat.

It only revs up to 6KRPM .. so when hell cat hits 6krevvs it shifts to second. while the stang has an extra 2,600Revvs to deal with before shifting to second... have you guys owned a car that revs higher than 6,000RPM's? it's self explanatory. and that is the "illusion" that the hell call is short shifting ... +3pointsracer You're right about rpms being what they are for each car. No matter what the max rpms are the sound of the motor will hit a peak tone, and often the Hellcat wasn't doing that. Just like if you drive a manual car with no tach (used to be a lot of those), you can hear when the appropriate time to shift is. And this HC driver isn't always doing that.
Hellcat's got a lot more than 707 in the tank... All the Dodge Boys need to do is make a pulley change and a tune and they'll make over 800HP on pump gas...

Shelby is obviously a better engineered car, the Hellcat just has a lower rev range and supercharger to push the weight along, the Shelby gets off the line much better, handles the power much better, revs higher, is better built in my opinion, sounds better in my opinion, and is lighter, much lighters. Seeing as they have a 180WHP~ Difference, the Shelby is the better car. Plus, independent suspension all around.
l9ikjam The Shelby doesn't feel like its a car from 2011 on the inside, it is a nicer car, less nasty plastic, and no fake leather! It is much better put together than all the other muscle cars out there.
I'd like to see a BMX vs dual sport next, because you know, they're comparable. The Hellcat should win this without much question, much as the GT350 should win when turns are introduced.
They appear to be much closer matched than I would have guessed initially. I'm guessing power to weight is the major factor here. That Shelby is a force to be reckoned with!

yae ive heard that bull before. put a good driver in the hellcat and bring it over here and race at bathurst where you can really take it to the limit . no substitute for horsepower . chrysler had the same attitude with the weight difference and came away with no wins even though the charger was lighter than the other cars that it was up against
The Shelby GT350R is not made for drag racing, its made for the track. It has a better Nurburgring time than a Porsche 911 GT3 and Koenisegg CCX. But the new Shelby Super Snake coming out is made for drag racing and it will rape this challenger easily. Previous Super Snake had 850hp, hopefully the 2017 will have 900 or more.
Comparing Tmthe Super Snake and the Hellcat is apples and oranges. You could compare the Suoer Snake and the Challenger Drag Pack, that would be a fair comparison.
They are both incredible cars but different animals. I've a GT350 and my dad a has a Charger Hellcat. The supercharger whine of the hellcat is addictive and it's so easy to lose the backend that it puts a smile in your face, but the GT350 is obviously much better in twisties.

GT350 is a naturally aspirated engine, less horsepower and it's lighter. Even though it may not have won against the Hellcat it still put up a wonderful fight. And the Shelby is better on a track than the Hellcat, which makes up for the Shelby losing in the drag. Imagine if the Shelby had a supercharger added. The Hellcat wouldn't have stood a chance then.

There's a lot more to drag racing then just peak horsepower numbers, the GT350 is lighter, has a better power band, is probably getting better traction, and probably also has an advantage in gearing. It isn't just 700HP vs 500HP.

8,200 is redline and with almost 530 naturally aspirated ponies. You cannot go wrong with the Shelby. The Hellcat is amazing car, just wish it was about 500 lbs lighter. *whispers and shrugs* nothing a backseat delete can't fix :'D I grew up Chrysler, but raised Ford. So i'm down with both. Chevrolet makes nice things but I personally wouldn't own one.
Even then, the GT350 is over 1,000lbs lighter and revs higher, the next GT500 might get a Supercharged Voodoo engine with around 740hp, I love Mopar but I like Mustangs better

The Dodge starts off in 2nd gear because they spin too much off the line. In other words, the Ford can do ok against a Hellcat that skips a gear. Put drag radials on both and the Hellcat runs a 10.8 1/4 mile. It would have 7 car lengths on the Ford.

Im a MOPAR owner (2015 ScatPack) and I have to say that the GT350 is a very impressive car. You cant really compare it to a Hellcat because it is outmatched (would like to see them on the track) but put it up against a Scat or SRT and it would likely be a different outcome. I think the GT350 is in a class all by itself with the exception of MAYBE the Z28, now that would be a pretty good matchup but I would put my money on the Mustang.

I honestly think that the Hellcat guy was using the black key rather than the red key. The red key unleashes all of the 707 hp. The black key only allows 500 hp.
It's funny you say that...I was thinking the exact same thing. I watched the race like 4 times and I was thinking...man, that really looks (based on how it's pulling) like he's in the 500hp key/mode. Does the original poster know which key he was using for sure?
The mustang is running 526HP of the much heavier challenger were running 500HP it would be getting smoked. The stang had better aerodynamics, better grip, and lighter weight on it's side allowing it to keep up despite the HP gap. The stang should be getting smoked off the line and catching up near the end because of the flat crank design of the engine but the tires that come on it are at the Ferrari and Lambo level of track tire, they GRIP. This stang was made with circle track racing in mind rather than drag.
I wanna see a gt-500 vs hellcat race with both cars having professional drivers and see who wins I have never seen a Shelby stock run 10's but I've seen dozens of hellcat's do it.

I have owned a mustang and I currently own a Charger hellcat and all I can say is I love both machines and the GT350 did an amazing job keeping up with the hellcat, judging from the video I can see that the hellcat was shifting poorly and early

Impressive. You'd expect the HC to clean up. But the GT350 driver did a much better job at the light and was fast on the gear changes. Switching drivers would have been interesting. Also the HC had a passenger, costing it two tenths. The GT350's exhaust note is wonderful.

Hey good news, the 528HP GT350 is all it takes to keep up with the 707HP Hellcat. No need to bring out the Shelby 1000. Just know Ford and Shelby America are just giving Dodge some rope and as we can see already reeling it in....The new GT500 is coming, Mach 1 is coming back and.... more. Just glad to see the Muscle Cars are back and in our lifetime. It's a great time to buy any of these cars people, whether it's a Dodge, Chevy or Ford. The GT350 isn't a pure muscle car. With the Mustang redesign came independent rear suspension and this model in particular has magnetic suspension. If you want the muscle car version of the Mustang, check out the supersnake.

yae ive heard that bull before. put a good driver in the hellcat and bring it over here and race at bathurst where you can really take it to the limit . no substitute for horsepower . chrysler had the same attitude with the weight difference and came away with no wins even though the charger was lighter than the other cars that it was up against

The Shelby GT350R is not made for drag racing, its made for the track. It has a better Nurburgring time than a Porsche 911 GT3 and Koenisegg CCX. But the new Shelby Super Snake coming out is made for drag racing and it will rape this challenger easily. Previous Super Snake had 850hp, hopefully the 2017 will have 900 or more.
Comparing Tmthe Super Snake and the Hellcat is apples and oranges. You could compare the Suoer Snake and the Challenger Drag Pack, that would be a fair comparison.
Pops Smith they are pretty similar. They are both made for drag racing and are at a relatively similar price point.

They are both incredible cars but different animals. I've a GT350 and my dad a has a Charger Hellcat. The supercharger whine of the hellcat is addictive and it's so easy to lose the backend that it puts a smile in your face, but the GT350 is obviously much better in twisties.

GT350 is a naturally aspirated engine, less horsepower and it's lighter. Even though it may not have won against the Hellcat it still put up a wonderful fight. And the Shelby is better on a track than the Hellcat, which makes up for the Shelby losing in the drag.
Imagine if the Shelby had a supercharger added. The Hellcat wouldn't have stood a chance then.

8,200 is redline and with almost 530 naturally aspirated ponies. You cannot go wrong with the Shelby. The Hellcat is amazing car, just wish it was about 500 lbs lighter. *whispers and shrugs* nothing a backseat delete can't fix :'D I grew up Chrysler, but raised Ford. So i'm down with both. Chevrolet makes nice things but I personally wouldn't own one.
Even then, the GT350 is over 1,000lbs lighter and revs higher, the next GT500 might get a Supercharged Voodoo engine with around 740hp, I love Mopar but I like Mustangs better

The Dodge starts off in 2nd gear because they spin too much off the line. In other words, the Ford can do ok against a Hellcat that skips a gear. Put drag radials on both and the Hellcat runs a 10.8 1/4 mile. It would have 7 car lengths on the Ford.

The HC is way more of a head turner than the Mustang. The stang looks like every other Mustang but just sounds different.

Im a MOPAR owner (2015 ScatPack) and I have to say that the GT350 is a very impressive car. You cant really compare it to a Hellcat because it is outmatched (would like to see them on the track) but put it up against a Scat or SRT and it would likely be a different outcome. I think the GT350 is in a class all by itself with the exception of MAYBE the Z28, now that would be a pretty good matchup but I would put my money on the Mustang.

I honestly think that the Hellcat guy was using the black key rather than the red key. The red key unleashes all of the 707 hp. The black key only allows 500 hp.
It's funny you say that...I was thinking the exact same thing. I watched the race like 4 times and I was thinking...man, that really looks (based on how it's pulling) like he's in the 500hp key/mode. Does the original poster know which key he was using for sure?
The mustang is running 526HP of the much heavier challenger were running 500HP it would be getting smoked. The stang had better aerodynamics, better grip, and lighter weight on it's side allowing it to keep up despite the HP gap. The stang should be getting smoked off the line and catching up near the end because of the flat crank design of the engine but the tires that come on it are at the Ferrari and Lambo level of track tire, they GRIP. This stang was made with circle track racing in mind rather than drag.

I have owned a mustang and I currently own a Charger hellcat and all I can say is I love both machines and the GT350 did an amazing job keeping up with the hellcat, judging from the video I can see that the hellcat was shifting poorly and early

Impressive. You'd expect the HC to clean up. But the GT350 driver did a much better job at the light and was fast on the gear changes. Switching drivers would have been interesting. Also the HC had a passenger, costing it two tenths. The GT350's exhaust note is wonderful.

The GT350 isn't a pure muscle car. With the Mustang redesign came independent rear suspension and this model in particular has magnetic suspension. If you want the muscle car version of the Mustang, check out the supersnake.
