Wow, this is killer! It’s heavily New Wave and pre-dates most all of the more popular American New Wave stuff. Thanks for posting, love Martha Davis and I’ve never heard this before.

My band had just finished our "best" gig downstairs at Madame Wong's West, biggest crowd ever, top of the world. Then we realized why: They were all just waiting for The Motels' upstairs later. Man, we loved and idolized them, played their songs at our copy gigs.

I love this group and Martha. I was lucky enough to meet her 2x. She's amazing.

I've heard so many nice things about her, I'll probably never get to meet her. The last time they got to the midwest in 2022 they had to cancel some dates because they were sick.

Wow, what a rare gem ! There isn't anything I don't like about this. This band has never gotten the respect they deserve. I mean, come on, one of the most ingenious lines of lyrics ever written..."Take the "L" out of lover, and it's over". Suddenly Last Summer is so atmospheric and beautifully produced, but it only hints at the greatness this band was capable of. If this is just a demo, then I think they're In need of an expanded box set, with demos, additional live material not yet released, and the complete discography remastered.
    More to come JR ?

And if you notice Martha is the only one in the group that's original! A totally different band was signed to Capitol. I believe I heard in an interview with Sax/Keyboardist Marty Jourard that Capitol signed Martha and not the band so it basically was Martha with a band but she didn't want it that way. She wanted to be an equal, not the pretty girl singer so she tried to avoid having her picture on the front of the covers until MTV was a thing.

@@mojorisen74 I've always had huge respect for her. She never wanted to be just another "pretty face". Very admirable considering around the time The Motels surfaced that was a "priority" as far as the major labels were concerned.
Of course, we're talking about Capital Records, the same label that dropped the Tubes after Inside/Outside, containing their biggest hit to date, was released. Ah, the good old days of major label manipulation !
