@@brandonbman5921yeah, but I was wondering what variant. I’ve actually got an old x431 that is just a dongle with SW that runs on my Samsung tablet. I’m looking to upgrade.
Hey Dan, Gabe‘s buddy from New Hampshire here… I have a 360, and my ThinkDiag2 tool cannot access the ABS module in order to reset the steering angle sensor on the 360. If you have time, would you be able to try the X431 on any 360s you have in the shop to see if that tool can access it Instead? I have no problem buying an X431 if it works, but I’d hate to buy another tool just to find out that doesn’t work either. I definitely want to tighten my steering nut, but I don’t want to be left with error codes and fault lights. Thanks!
Also, how does tightening a bolt on a sensor that sits on the steering pinion shaft solve the dead spot of the steering? Unless the steering angle sensor controls the electric steering actuator that moves the steering pinion shaft which drives the steering rack! Any thoughts?
There is a shaft that comes from the steering column and goes into the steering angle sensor, there they connect gets loose and causes some play in the steering wheel. Think of a bolt with a lock nut on it, the nut is loose until it catches the locking part. All we are doing here is tightening it enough to get into that locking part of the nut. Does that make sense?
What sub-model of X431 do you guys use there's like a 100 different ones? Do you know of the cheapest one that is confirmed to work with F430 and does PIS, clutch wear, etc? Thanks for the help. Keep those F430 videos coming.
@@normalguysupercar thank you. Did you use a cheaper smaller one before you got this monster? I thought I heard that in one episode you did, was the small one able to do everything that the big one can like PIS? If so what model what that? Id like to buy the cheapest solution possible. Thanks for the help
@@normalguysupercarI can confirm the calibration is not accessible for the 360 through the ThinkDiag2 or Autel AP200. I’m wondering if you could use your x431 to see if that tool can access the module on the 360?
You need to calibrate your stereing angle sensor with a scan tool, that will get rid if your warning lights. When you tighten the nut, it changes the angle on the sensor so your car thinks its turning all the time when its going straight.
@@IanRaineyThe thinkdiag will work. It’s cheaper than what Dan uses but has a subscription. If you buy the same tool as Dan, it’s pay once but a subscription for upgrades.
Ferraris wear too? I've been adjusting the steering lash on C2 and C3 Corvettes for 30 over years. Except on an old Corvette, the dead spot goes from really bad to not quite so bad.
@@jayymac no I will do that now. The ASR AND ABS lights started acting up right after I tightened up the steering dead spot. Fixed one problem and caused another! Thanks guys!
Poor build quality!! Since there isn't a lot of force on the steering angle sensor, why wouldn't Ferrari put blue Loctite on the bolt??!!! It would never loosen or back out.
As a Ferrari owner from china(another side of the planet), i do learn lots of things from ur channel ,thanks a lot!
Glad to hear that!
This is a great video! I would have never figured this out!
Glad I could help!
Super easy! Great video.
It really is!
Good tip!
Glad you think so!
Hey Dan, I don’t own a Ferrari (perhaps some day), but I really enjoy your videos and tips!
Thank you, appreciate that
wow, such a great tip. Thank you guys
Our pleasure!
Great video
Thanks!
Great video as it becomes pretty annoying. I did this a few year ago. Holding strong!
Yeah it's pretty simple
Dan, which Launch do you recommend? I think you used to have the mini. The one is this video is not the mini. There are a number of them available.
@@fastmnstealthin the video he refers to it as the Launch X431.

Lol only off camera.

What are you replacing the Mini with? Great vid today!
We have a plan...
Thanks for this ! Any reason you wouldn’t turn the steering wheel when the car is running though, seems like it would be easier with power assist ?
You'll get some errors from the steering angle sensor probably... It's not that hard to turn the wheel honestly.
Does this move the steering wheel to the stering rack? Do you need to do the wheel alingment aftwerwards?
No alignment needed
Cool
Yup

Yeah it's a nut not just a bushing for the sensor

Investigate CPR classic car restoration in San Diego. It happened again.
Yeah heard about that

Does this happen to 360's too?

Interesting
Worm and sector or recirculating ball, with bias ply tires are the paragon of steering feel! 😂
What happens if you don't recalibrate the steering?
I would assume it would thing the steering angle is way off in the computer and probably throw some codes
