- It was Australia’s worst mass murder case until the 1996 Port Arthur massacre - the firebombing of the popular Brisbane nightclub Whiskey Au Go Go in 1973 left 15 people dead. But the victims of this horrific crime didn't end there. Barbara McCulkin and her daughters Vicki and Leanne were killed nearly a year later, over fears Barbara was about to blow the whistle on who really started the fire.
Reporter Steve Pennells lifts the lid on this heinous crime, meets the survivors and the man who was helping Barbara flee to safety.

They always seem to put off solving crimes until it's no longer useful because everyone's died of old age. It happens a lot in Australia from crimes in the 70s and 80s. Even then it's only come out because someone spoke up, not because of police work.

I can understand the real killers, who set fire to the nightclub, wanting to silence the woman who knew they were guilty.
Barbara, the mom, should not have spread it to others that she was going to report the real killers.
But her 2 daughters were at a birthday party the night they came to abduct their mom.
I doubt she would have given name's and info about such dangerous men + their guilt to her daughters who were so young.
I don't see the daughters as being a threat to them + there was no need for them to be murdered.

When the police were more dangerous than a modern Mexican cartel,It’s hard to accept that the QLD police were not involved in this murder or know exactly what happened.
Well, some in the Qld police. You really can't paint all of them with the same brush. Altthough there were whisperings among people I knew a couple of years after this that a friend was murdered by the police but there was nothing anyone could do because the same would happen to them.
