I'm a year younger than Richard. The original was released in October 1981 - he was only 12 years old.
This song got us through junior high school, senior high school, college, and had stayed with we '80s kids' through ups and downs for the last 43 years. It's legendary.

Your podcast was off the charts for an incredible act that just floored me when I first saw Richard sing. I'm a big Journey fan. Never thought that I would see the day that someone like Richard would kill that song. When I first heard the first few notes, I thought he was lip syncing! Later through his rendition, I realized that he really was singing with that incredible voice!

Everyone forgets that those of us in our 50s and 60s were going once! We're 80s kids! This is just one sample of iconic songs from our teenage years that lasted forever. I remember when it was released. I was 11 years old and loved Steve Perry!
Richard wasn't a 55 year old man in 1981 when this iconic song was released. He was a 12 year old boy, with his Radio Shack 80s boom box, discovering music as a 6th or 7th grader.

It was the 1984 playoffs against Magic and the Lakers that Larry said this one was for the people of Terra Haute where Indiana University his Alma Mata is. Now the Larry Bird museum has just opened in Terra Haute coinciding with the death of former Celtic teammate Bill Walton. Bird said you build a museum for me it's going to be free, just like Larry has always been.
