This is awesome! And the Model...oh my her accent!
OMG! Louise is stunning. Oh the accent too! Thanks for the great info Jay and it helps that the models are really easy on the eyes.
Also you can shift your color temperature with warm gel on flash
Love you Jay P. Been a fan of you for a long time. You are such a knowledgeable person.
Thank you. I appreciate that. Thanks for your support!
Great tutorial! Quick, but one of the more in depth explanations of using gels. :) ;) :)
Thanks!
Man I’m rediscovering your channel. For some reason it didn’t resonate with me back when I was starting (maybe because my English wasn’t that good). But now, it’s video gold
Welcome back! Glad you are finding the videos helpful!
I tried to pay attention but GEEZ LOUISE!!!
I tried a couple of these before. thanks for the reminder
Definitely doing this
Great show. I want to try this with video.
Let me know how it goes, Gene!
The way I do it is, I change the white balance in camera, and add a gel to the key light. I'll keep these other techniques in mind.
That's a nice way of doing it but can sometime be tricky - like when you're dealing with Daylight coming throught a window for intance. It also affect your whole image, not just your subject's face
That was the way I was expecting him to do it
grate info
Nice! Please make some episode talking about low key and high key photography!
Thanks, Bruno! We are actually prepping a lesson right now that deals with high key, so stay tuned for that one in August!
Great stuff! Thank you for sharing the knowledge!
JP - is there a distinct advantage of using the gels for shadow vs doing this in post?
Thanks, as always!
Matt Pilchard probably a good option for pure photography enthusiasts, as in those who prefer getting the best possible shot without editing.
you are the grate sir
i love your videos
Hello Sir,
First, I'd like to say a big thanks for this fantastic video, it's an amazing stuff!!!
May I have a question? How put the color gel INSIDE the softbox? With or without reflector? If you got without reflector inside, how is the method?
Thankyou for your answer
Sincerely yours,
Peter
Thanks for the tips JP! I want those sheets a long time ago, I finded in amazon. I bought selens filter for the speedlight, but this for bigger flashes are excellent!
Greetings from Uruguay!
Please show fashion photo shoot in basic offlight
I would like to see tutorial how to use gels when you have color gel on continuous light (lets say Godox 150W), as it it will burn that color gel - what to do in this situation and are there any option to put away color gel from LED matrix away?
Those Rosco color gels were made for using with Tungsten lights so they shouldn't burn. A lot of LED's have the ability to adjust the color in the light.
How about putting a gel on your reflector's silver side?
Seems like it'd be most convenient, but idk how that would look.
try it out and send you results to our facebook page! would love to see what would happen!
Hi, I'm confused by the gel in the softbox! What is it attached to and does it not melt with the modelling light or strobe? Thanks
In the video we taped the gel to the inside of the softbox . Since we used an LED light, it doesn't transfer much heat.
Fantastique
Hello!
And what are your experiences with the alta pro tripod?...i hadn’t heard a much about it. I’m considering to buy a professional tripod, but i want to buy it at once in the next 20 years ...is it worth the money? Or i should buy a gitzo or manfrotto instead?...and before i forget it, i will pit not just full frame body on it, but a Mamiya rz 67 too...Thank you!
Hello, I've used the Alta Pro for a very long time, but they are discontinued, so they only have the Alta Pro 2 now. It's pretty sturdy and will be able to hold your camera just fine. You can check it out here: bhpho.to/2FMvmbF If you want something more heavy duty, for like a c200, I use the Benro Aluminum Tripod Kit with BV8H Head, that's this one: bhpho.to/2FQcB71
Louise should have said, "Keep those cameras rollin'. Keep on clickin'."
True! We should have used that British accent more! Next time!
What light are you using for your key light? Is it also a Aperture 300D like your fill light?
We are using the Baja B4 strobe heads for this video. Our BTS lights are Silk 210 land Aputure 120D lights.
awesome, tutorial
Thanks, Andy!
You don't link to your models' Instagrams?
Her instagram is listed at the end of the video:) We also cite any talent that we use at the end. This particular model's is @louisehoughton_
Hey ! Thanks for this video. What's the lens used in photoshoot, her images are pretty sharp and saturated
We used a Sony a7r2 for this shoot.
i am your fan sir
Thanks for your support. More to come.
Super sir
Thank you. Glad to hear it!
Expected an alien and David Duchovny going after them at 0:07
It does sound a little X-Files, doesn't it?
Haha. :) Great tutorial, thanks for this.
What is your White balance in the camera Jp?
For this one we did daylight balance
5500 K? Thank you very much JP!
Intro music please :o
It's awesome, right? We get all our music from Triple Scoop Music- check them out!
This is like Weird Science.
It is a pretty cool look!

Sorry, Fred! I still love and appreciate that you follow The Slanted Lens!
Like ! .
i liked you back!!
A lot stuff promoted on this channel turned out to be total crap when I actually tried it. They had these LED panels which were allegedly "so super bright and soft" while costing a grand each but turned out to be of less quality and actual brightness than some not even 100 $ Neewer LEDs (which rock btw.)
Remember...just the shadows
We didn't want to turn HER blue!
