Me and a buddy I worked with used to bring a small camping grill to work every Friday and set it up in the parking lot to make hot dogs. We'd sit in our camp chairs and tailgate for our hour lunch. Pretty soon, other people asked if they could bring stuff to grill, including some managers, and eventually the company bought a full size grill and turned every Friday lunch into a Grill & Chill.

You should try with coals for shichirin/hibachi grills (Japanese binchotan or “thaan” from Thailand) its petrified charcoal that's much denser, which results in a hotter longer burn, which in addition produces less smoke and flare-ups. Also, you can find foldable travel coal starters from a sporting goods/camping supply store (or Amazon) the grill would be perfect for yakitori or shish kabobs, the secret is thinly skewered meats. That chicken would have cooked better had you butterflied it, albeit you'd have to cook one at a time.

My Dad had one that was made in the 1960's.. I remember we went to the beach and he pulled it out. It was the size of a small suitcase made of aluminum. It had fold out legs, and you opened it up and it had a 30 x 20 grilling area. load it with charcoal and put the grate on it and grill away... Such memories! I miss you daddy!

Love the small Napolean grill we got. Heats up so hot and fast the lid blistered. It's not as tiny as that though, and does need propane, and can take abit to cool down, but is more than enough for a family of five

  • @PolisKshatriya
    @PolisKshatriya 4 года назад +2

I think I have a few things to note on this grill to make it better:
    1. Natural chunk or lump charcoal. It burns hotter, so you don't need as much, it's cleaner, and easier to light
    2. You should be able to fit three of those regular (at least they look like) 1/4 pound burgers on that grill because the heat should still hit the third, edged burger, but I think the real solution is a lot more, smaller burgers. Perfect for sliders, or even some thinner burgers because they'll cook faster, so you can still get a lot on with a single charcoal load.
But after all that, I still don't see why anyone would use this over a propane or butane camping grill. Even a little backpacking stove, like an MSR PocketRocket or a Coleman Peak One, will be cheaper, easier to clean, and give you longer, more reliable burn time
I think it would be cool if you revisited this grill with the lump charcoal and some small burgers, but maybe I'm wrong and it'll be the same

For a really hot grill, skip the briefcase and just put a grill grate on the top of your chimney starter. Alton Brown did an episode on that once, and I think it got up to around 1000°F thanks to the convection currents.

My scouts used to make pizza ovens out of cardboard boxes, a thing we learned about charcoal is that you get about 25 degrees fahrenheit out of each briquette. So you might have been getting more heat off of a rock then the grill the first time.

You should've lined to charcoal tray with foil

The cleanup may be better on the suitcase grill if you put a small piece of aluminum foil on the bottom before you put the charcoal down. Also to keep the heat in, you might make a small tent over the food, and should help with cooking time. Maybe?? Regular grills do have lids. 😉

I think subconsciously part of the reason I watch is because I know you do the full review of the product(if not in segments). Also I agree that’s really a bad look for someone to ship you the product with the deal they got.

I wouldn’t necessarily blame Amazon, but I’d sure as hell go after the seller that was based on Amazon! Contact Amazon with a screenshot of the listing at $50 and the a photo of the Marshall’s tag on the box at $39.99. They might go after the seller for you. I’d also contact the seller and demand the difference.

This makes no sense. Actual people sell things on amazon, it’s not only amazon selling on there. So you want those actual people selling a $40 item for $40????? Just like EVERY business in the world, they need to make a profit, and trust me, after the fees on amazon, that seller probably BARELY broke even.

    • @ItsJustLisa

Matthew L, the seller didn’t buy at a supplier, they bought from a retailer. They proved it by leaving the retailer’s price tag on the item. They then marked the price up 25% plus likely charged a shipping/handling fee.

@@ItsJustLisa The seller most likely got the item from a customer return pallet or liquidation sale, not from going to Marshall's and buying it directly. As for the price, Marshall's may have marked it down if it wasn't selling quick enough (which might also be why it got sold in a bulk returns/liquidation pallet) but the Amazon seller researched the retail price and sold it at that. Still should have removed the tag but sometimes things slip through the cracks.

@@PheonixSunstar001 I don't know. After season sales usually have this kind of junk marked down at least 50%, usually even more. Either way, I bet the seller made at least double what they paid.

Reviewing a charcoal grill and not making it 'about the charcoal' is like reviewing a car and not making it about the engine!!

There are special rocks you can add to the charcoal tray to help keep the heat. The people the only used 8 or so nuggets more than like had filled the tray with some of those.
