  • @Kayzox
    @Kayzox Год назад +13

    It's possible to weld the chain so it rolls only one way and interlocks itself the other way. So you don't need the long bars anymore. It would be less sturdy but may be enough for the weight of the food.

    I like your idea and I will probably make at least 6 of them, 1 for me and the others as gifts. I couldn't help but think about all the people who can't DIY this because: (1) they don't have access to hardly any of the tools and equipment most craftsmen take for granted. And (2) even if they has access,most lack the skills to use them. I actually know people who struggle with operating a drill press or a grinder so I can't imagine then welding, using a lathe, or even threading the stiffener rods or the legs. You should develop an "easy assemble" kit they could purchase. Anyway, great project. Enjoyed it very much.

      @@patfranks785 pretty sure you could just go out and buy a grill too, but this is for creative people and obviously you’ve never set a grill up on a rocky shore or mountain side, I mean camp grounds are great and all and pretty sure even joe Biden could level something on soft ground, but thanks for pointing out the obvious for those that couldn’t figure it out, I’m sure there’s lots of you 😉

    Nice! Brilliant idea and follow through. You inspired me to think about how I'd design something like that, and I thought of a couple of things that would make it easier to transport and set up. If you cut the 2 long side support bars in half and welded nuts at the halfway point for them to thread into, then it would make the whole thing into a much shorter package to transport. It would reduce the strength, but I think if you welding on a nut or two drilled out to the diameter of the bar and acting as supports near each center nut, so that the bars slid through the supports before threading into the center nuts, then it would be plenty strong. Just so that the weight on the joint was carried by the supports and not just the center nuts. And for the legs, usually you are setting these things up on uneven ground, so making them so that the corner nut each leg is threaded through is open on top, so the leg can screw past the top of the grill surface, would allow you to screw the leg/s that needed to be shorter in further. You could thread the top 1/4 or so of each leg, or just use threaded rods as the legs. Also, welding on little feet to the legs would help if you're using it on soft ground.

      @@AndriiPysarenko Oh, just had another idea, at each corner weld in two nuts, one like you have now that's vertical, and the other at maybe a 15 degree angle. So you have the option of compact footprint and tall with it in your current configuration, or slanted legs for more stability and a bit lower height.

    • @PondSideCreations
      @PondSideCreations Год назад +1

      Cut a threaded coupling in half and use one for each side. (longer than a nut) for the stability part of it.

      And, a couple of quick “touches” with the welder on the legs to give a bit of grip texture for screwing/unscrewing the legs easily 👍

    • @bieniek_mario_18
      @bieniek_mario_18 Год назад +1

      If the bars are 30cm long just make the chain 30cm long. Then the 2 longer bars that stick out when folded would no longer stick out but fit perfeclty. If somebody is worried about stability just make the 2 bars and legs from thicker bars. I would make the leg bars longer. Then when needed u can adjust the height just by dig it deeper to the ground. Make it easy not complicated

    But I do have my questions with this build. With such an open construction heat distribution would be inefficient at least.
    There is an other problem as well. When you use a bbq or a grill, it gets greasy and heated for a prolonged time. I wonder what this does to the construction? Can you still screw in the legs? Does it still roll up? I think it won't.
