    Yo Hermit, question: Is the carb worth it? Did it give the bike power? Did it change fuel consumption at all??

    great timing you old hermit, I've had a TM40 Flatslide Pumper Carb sitting on my bench for two weeks to fit on my DR650. This weekend I'm supposed to have time to get it on and set up. Looking forward to the wrist joy myself.

    Pumper carbs use a ton of gas. On my old DR650 I got 550km out of my 30L Safari tank. On my 1290 SA with 30L tank I get ...550km. The KTM has a 1301cc engine, it’s basically one DR650 engine slanted forwards and one backwards. The EFI is so efficient that the economy is as good as an engine half the size with a FCR39. Pretty amazing. Still, love the pumper carb.

    Nice to see your organized shop. You and Duhfactor (at least in his new digs) share that attention to detail. Looking forward to the rest of your build. How did I miss the earlier videos on this bike? I don't see anything in your archive on it.

    Best upgrade you can make to an Xr400r! We installed one on a buddies 97 400 and the power difference is outstanding. XR'S only is a great company. Keep up the entertaining videos!

    Right but why do you need so much power from an XR? It's still a damn good trail bike, but if you want a dedicated race bike get something lighter, I love XR's so go for it.

    Have you lost all the weight you had planned? I've lost about 8 pounds on my "don't eat pizza every day" diet. I've added five to ten minutes of exercise per day to keep the trend going. Another ten or so pounds and I will be happy although I already feel much better. Love the videos by the way!

    then I will ask one more question if I may... I did watch youre rather amusing millennial video. those tips did help to start easier but it's still pretty hard. I have factory 132 main jet and the 45 pilot and am kind of at a loss as to which way to go to help with my starting issues

    • @HermitDaVlog
      @HermitDaVlog  7 лет назад

      Tough to say without being there. Choke makes it rich, and heat makes it a little more rich. So if when it's been running for a minute the choke kills it, it might be rich. If it runs better with choke after it's been running it could be lean. For me if it's 70 degrees out I have to have choke to start and can leave the choke on for a minute and then half choke for 30 seconds and then no choke, but it still needs a few minutes to warm up before I an rid it without it stalling. Maybe that can give you a clue if it's running lean or rich. Other things that can cause a problem is if the boots on the carb are leaking or if the floats are not adjusted right. I always, clean and replace all the rubber in the carb and set the floats before I try to start jetting it. There is also a manual somewhere where you can calculate the jets for your altitude, but if you're under 5K above sea level factory jets should work.

    Hermit have u ever seen a Edelbrock quicksilver pumper stream? mine hasn't got the force of the mikuni in your vid but it didn't have any stream before i cleaned and inspected the pumper mechanics and seals . I have no point of reference other than putting it back in the bike and testing which will suck if its not right as far as i know there is no videos showing the edelbrock quicksilver pumper stream in action to know if the stream is normal or not. The fuel only goes about 3 ft but there is a decent volume and I have to twist faster to get the fuel to come out. any input is appreciated .

    just bought an 02 xr400. Very excited to let you experiment with upgrades and see results. Did you know the jetting of the stock carb? im in your area as far as elevation and want to know what works best. Great music in this one!

    • @HermitDaVlog
      @HermitDaVlog  7 лет назад

      I believe the stock jetting is 60/158 and corrected for 9000ft would be 52/147. I think I'd go one step richer on my first try. I didn't tune the stock carb before replacing it with a pumper so all I have to go on is the manual.

    is this same carb usable on the 250r? and would it be worth it on said bike?

    • @HermitDaVlog
      @HermitDaVlog  7 лет назад

      I don't know, maybe if it was leaned out. I don't think it's as much benefit since 250s don't really need pumpers and the XR250 isn't as finicky about starting as the XR400. If you're looking to experiment with carbs on the 250 I've been thinking about trying a Lectron carb, but I have no idea if it fits or helps either.

    SuuuuWeeeeet! Love the sneak peek of the 400. Cant wait to see what ya think of the pumper carb. Ive been thinking about getting one for my 400 your thoughts will probably sway me one way or the other. I also really like that headlight assembly what kind is it? Ive got a Dakar dual sport kit on my bike right now but the year before last somehow the electrical board went out, not sure if it was the waist deep water crossing or not. I did my best to do some rewiring to get the headlight and trip computer working but the signals still don't work. Oh well for now but Ive been thinking about either ordering a new Dakar board or switching up my dual sport kit so I'm excited to see how you set yours up. Keep the great vids coming man your one of my UTube Favs!

    this is a must for the 400. mine will start cold in 2-3 kicks and first kick when hot. also gets rid of the off idle dead spot that'll bite you if you need to loft the front tire on tight stuff. the best money you can spend on the 400.
