I used to sit in there, at that very spot, and eat hotlinks off butcher paper as a little kid, as a special treat, with my daddy and my grandpa. They've both passed on now, years ago. Grew up just down the road, off Old Highway 300 near 726. That was a different time for me, though. Hell, I think it was a different time for everyone. The world was just a different place back then. Best hotlinks I've ever had though. I'm in my mid-thirties now, married, my wife and I living in Sweden, a very long way away from East Texas. Damn, that was a long time ago...
Sweden is a good place to live just like other places. It is what you make it to. Could be the other half that is the magnet so to speak. I am going to visit when I set my feet on Texas soil next year. Love the nice way of how people are respected from the reporter. Thumbs up! Have a nice winter of 2019.
I have been living in Texas since I was stationed at Bergstrom Air Force base in the mid . I originally came from Michigan and knew the day I stepped off the plane for camp that I would live here for the rest of my life. The one thing that I always loved About Texas is the people that make up this great state. They are the salt of the earth, are working and friendly. People like Mr. Henderson who live in small towns who are hard-working and honest people. I love your stories of these kinds of people, it gives me hope for this country because this country is full of people in small towns and cities who are just like the people of Texas.
I drive a big truck and every time I get to go through there I always stop at at Doc’s and haven’t been disappointed yet!! 💪 thanks for sharing the experience and great hot links
"We appreciate ya man it's what makes our living..." That's why this is so cool! So many small businesses excel at their craft. This is merica! Don't pass it by!
It's really why I like Texas Country Reporter or Texas Bucket List... I don't even eat meat, but I really like listening to the stories of grit and determination of unassuming, normal people who have built something great. Food can really evoke strong emotions, so touching to see this!
Gilmer is my home town when ever I am there I take back 6 doz or more to dallas, one day I will move back and buy this place, cause there is no one to take over when the doc,s pass on, we can not stop these great links from being sold, they are the best.
Some of my most beloved memoirs are of eating East Texas hot links with my grandfather the man who raised me and tought me to be a man and who I proudly called Daddy. Tears come to my eyes years of joy and of sorrow longing or those days. It has been years sents l have had East Texas hot links. I am now in Maine and thinking about driving home to TEXAS just to have them.
My Papa (grandpa) passed away and he from glimmer Texas and later moved to Ohio and anytime we visited we always have to make a stop at docs and eat the hot links inside. And take some to go when going fishing. One of my first memory’s going to Texas with my papa. Miss him everyday 💔
I travel through East Texas on business on a monthly basis. I love stopping at the small town eateries. I always get “the look” as a non-resident but have always been treated warmly. Take a long weekend a visit a few of these spots.
Thanks Texas Country Reporter for an awesome video. Now I need to drive on up to Gilbert and try me some Docs Hot Links ! I never heard of them before, now I’m dying to try some
@@paul9912 They have also updated the building a little. Likely with some needed maintenance. I ride dirt bikes near there at Barnwell Mountain Recreation. I've not been in since the new owner, but was going to try it. Will have to make it a point to stop in now.

I grew up in Gilmer and some of my favorite memories where eating at Doc's with my papaw, dad, and brother. Drinking a root beer in a glass bottle with half a dozen. Still one of my favorites!
My grandmother is from Rusk county. Wish someone would have took us to this place when we used to visit when I was a kid back in the 80's and early 90's. I love a good hot link.
For those of you foreigners who are not from north and northeast Texas, this is 100% true and these hot links Pittsburgh sausages. Whatever you want to call them are unbelievable! One of the best things you can have for lunch or dinner or breakfast
I had vending accounts up in Gilmer so I would see his business on Hwy. 271 so I hope they’re still open. There’s Pittsburg Hot Links in Pittsburg and One in Hughes Springs, Tx.
Those things can cure smoking drinking, any addiction because you will be addicted to them lol. Great job they look so darn good I'm wishing I could reach through my monitor for one of those plates with the big old pile of links on it and that bottle of hotsauce . . . . maaaaan!
