Gotta love it when engineers are told that the rulebook has been punted out the window and they can fulfil their wildest dreams.
Their wildest dreams is to engineer an F1 car.
Sure
@@rethla Any performacne car, if they could really threw out the rulebook, it would not look like anything like a F1 car. Rules dictate form and function, and interesting in that respect was the cowls mentioned in this video. The same cowl technology now banned because it killed Senna because engineers, in their defense, did not know how much on the limit they were working, it worked but taking into account the drop in tire pressure from hot to cold it bottomed out his car, no one coiuld have thought of that. Now they know that and can make use of it without it ever happen again, but it's banned by men who never sat in a racecar themselves. It has become a sport of jurists sifting through the rules to determine how many nano millimeters of carbon extensions they can get away with.
Motorsport rules should only contain rules to protect the drivers, even though they know full well each time they step into a racecar they are risking their life. However gruesome crashes may be, more racecar drivers died of track then on track. It's a bit harsh of an example perhaps, but look at Schumacher and the horrific crashes he has had throughout his career in race cars on track and a of piste ski venture was his downfall even though he should have died a hundred times before in all the crashes on track.
Group B rallying was awesome, Toivonnen died because the tech was not on par with the speed, but todays heavilly restricted rally cars are faster then the Group B were but they are still restricted from incidents in the past which are know common sense, regretable learning incidents, in the racing world that whatever you come up with , driver safety is first. And they show that time and again when drivers crash, and that they can do much more to make the sport better and keep the drivers safe and acknowledge safety first, but the wrong people decide what engineers, developpers and drivers can do, and restrict a whole team and sport to really be innovative and move forwards
@TJ Roelsma Lower drag certainly, but LMP1 can't really approach F1 downforce. If it *really* had that much downforce F1 wouldn't have busted the lap record (and not by a small margin) as soon as they got to Spa.
@@gilibran Toivonnen died because he chose to drive sick.
Can we just have a motorsport league that has no rules (except safety stuff) for innovation and stuff?

Next to beat the lap record?... F1 Qualifying in August.
Alex Oliver agree, and F1 cars will be using racing regulations(restricted cars) not like this LMP(unrestricted)
I was thinking the same when he said the previous record was Lewis in 2017. Plus, it was only by .7 and this years cars have been getting more than a second up on previous years.
Tony Love don't forget to mention that the F1 cars are restricted, and this LMP1 wasn't, so you really see how wonderful F1 cars are, Being LMP1 unrestricted I am surprised it only beat the record by 0.7sc....can you imagine unrestricted F1 cars?? they you smoke the record, I believe they would do times below the 1:39.00 easily.
Got to remember that the engine and electrics are unchanged from the WEC rules, just the fuel flow meter increasing the bhp. Additionally the chassis remains remarkably similar to the LMP1 car so to say that this car is entirely unrestricted is not entirely true. Not knocking the fact that an F1 car this year will smoke this but they still had certain restraints. It wasn't to show what an no regulation car could do, just an released LMP1
benjyheffer well, even if they make a Full Unrestricted LMP1, F1 still beat them up, send any car that you like, F1 beat them all, It's a fact that cannot be denied
Imagine If F1 only restricted engine sizes and number of cylinders and budgets, How insane would the designs be.
Just engine displacement for N/a and forced induction. I think wed see some crazy shit.
Probably pretty deadly :D
No need to go that far. Remove the fuel flow limit on the merc PU, allow active aero and watch it fly.
why would they need bigger engine and lot of cylinder it onnly make it heavier. the 1.6 turbo hybrid V6 could deliver 1000 hp is power already with all the restriction and need to last for a long time. with removed fuel flow and higher boost on the turbo and reintroduction of banned tech like party mode and also proper tyre by pirelli, and etc F1 car could break any record in existence. the porsche do it with tiny 2.0 V4 anyway

Pikes Peak cars have to follow rules, this car doesn't follow any rule, it would be like saying "Mercedes should take their F1 Car to the Le Mans 24h"

jewbakkaa it is actually not even sure that the 919 Evo makes the safety requirements tbh, and also maybe this car can't even hold an 8 minute long run, plus I don't think the engine would work properly at such an high altitude so yea many reasons to say that this car is not suited for Pikes Peak

Why cant the F1 cars sound like that
Why can't your profile picture be something else

Erm I am 49 and I actually prefer the cars sound now. Why because instead of just a screaming cacophony of sweet engine noises, I can hear the engine the spinning turbo the tyres scrabbling for grip the subtle slide of the tyres over the differing surfaces of track and kerbs and painted lines. All with the unique sound of the modern engines that let me hear the driver working and how his, invariably at present, input affects the cars performance.
Yes the v10 sounded glorious and the Ferrari’s v12 or v8 just had that edge on the Mercedes engines for sound. But those days are gone and going, we will soon live in an era of almost full electric power trains for cars and trucks. It may appear distant now but the main engine manufacturer plan a decade in advance. They have to it costs too much. And if F1 is not relevant to them it will die a slow spiralling death, if not hastened by the likes of sky f1.

Current F1 cars can hit 6.5G through the corners. Unrestricted they could probably hit 7G+, bearing in mind the maximum permitted in most fighter jets is 9G-10G, which they're exposed too rarely, rather than 5G+ regularly during an F1 lap.

Explaining why a de-restricted racing class would be fatal for its competitors, the g forces generated by cars with unlimited aero, potential for sucker cars, not being limited to a 4 stroke engine (hello gas turbine), you'd far exceed what the human body is capable of withstanding before you run into tire limitations.

It would be quite amazing if 2018 F1 cars can go even faster, and I think they will, or they will at least match it or come very close to it this year.
Bernard Spiteri They will in fact only get slower. New regulations for 2019 say that front wings need to be a lot less complex, therefore overtaking will get less difficult with the increase of lap times. The reason why they doing this 919 tribute and 919 evo is to keep all the engineers and crew together for as long as possible. I’m a race engineer in 🇺🇸 I really look up to Europe and how hi tech they are! My whole life I have been thinking of ways around the interpreted words of a rule book. Much respect for these guys to push the boundaries !!! Honesty I think F1 needs to get rid of all the rules . There’s is something beautiful when a man or a lady challenges possibility . I have always been a Adrenalin junky and I like stepping out of my comfort zone and seeing what I’m made of... even if it is risking my life! I think DANGER is what I was so in love with in racing. My gramps my pops and me have all driven race cars , but now days it’s too watered down. You have these young drivers that have no fear because the cars are so safe they think they are invincible . I was born in the 70s and cried for a week when my hero senna died, I cried when dale died and for many of my fathers and grandfathers friends died racing. I remember being stupefied by the Group B Cars. Racing to me was so mystical because of the danger involved ! Now I’m not saying we should not make the cars as safe as we know how. All I’m saying is you don’t go watching bull riding worrying about if some one is going to get hurt! NO MORE PC in racing
if f1 gets rid of its rules then the car will become a death machine and not pilotable by a human driver however it would be very cool to see.
@@mantastic4292 unlikely, they would just get too expensive to feasibly race except for the big teams.
I'll bet that at 4:00, there were many Petrolheads having strange stirrings 'downstairs'.
But there needs to be ONE racing series with no restrictions. One where engineers can just go insane and produce the best car they can possibly create.
There's probably a method of reconfiguring the aerodynamics of the car on track to deal with wake. Presumably, if you know how the air is exiting the car in front, you could deploy additional aerodynamics to sort of 'recycle' it into something beneficial?
I think you'd find combustion engines getting smaller and electric (or other ERS/clean) engines becoming lighter, more powerful and able to go longer distances at full tilt, which would obviously translate over to road vehicles.
What truely impresses me with these type of cars is not the speed or the power but how they curve!! 2 things I value more in a car...the curving capability and the brakes.
Sounds like a freaking rocket!!!
Omg that very first second 😱😱😱
Watch in x2 speed
Worth remembering that in race trim the Audi R8 was faster than the F1 grid at Monza and The Nurbergring in 2005 (the two identical tracks they raced on) although the tire rules had something to do with that.

When you have 'no rules racing' you end up with the carnage that was group b. As good is it is to reminisce over those times a lot of people died.
Hey one off cars are always fun to run or watch...
I've always thought the only rules should be safety rules..
So this is what happens when the FIA is not breathing down your neck and halting innovation
"Halting innovation"
Name one thing they changed compared to the LMP1 version that was actually an innovation and not something that has been known for a long time but just isn't allowed in LMP1 rules
Imposing restrictions actually allows for innovation. Squashing something that was innovative at one time but then making it illegal forces people to change and try another method.
FIA is homosexual
So what will happen if f1 car was modified like that ?
McLarenBMW what?
Jerryl, It would be an absolute safety nightmare firstly, and they would never overtake again. With how much it'd cost, there'd be about 3 teams left. F1s rules are a necessary evil
The car would probably have so much cornering grip that the driver's G-force tolerance would become the limiting factor. Even if you stuck with the V6 turbos, 1500-2000hp is probably possible if you can live with an engine that blows up after 10 laps.
ya was very expensive due to development of kers

I'd love to see an f1 team try make the ultamite f1 style car and see what it could do
WIsh I could find out more info on the powertrain and such, would be so cool
Vettel. Hamilton and raikkonen all did 1m41.5seconds in quali 2
the f1 went even faster this year
Just image, maybe 15-25 years from now we might see someone beat a one minute lap
driver would have blackout first corner
@@johnmcsorley572 not necessarily
@@johnmcsorley572 That only happens with vertical G's, where the blood rushes to your legs (I.E. Flying a jet). Race cars don't have vertical G's, they have horizontal G's.
Some people don't realise this beast is a 4 cylinder engine. F1 is a vacuum cleaner V6. Its a fast impressive full body car that races 24 hours. That's way more impressive than a F1 kart
I love this car so much, one of my GT SPORT favorites
What it's not even ingame lmao
@@bossb5088 I'm sorry, did I specify model? No I didn't.
