My dad did security for the original Aladdin hotel in Vegas back in the 80's and early 90's. They would have wrestling shows all the time there and i got to meet Roddy one night. I was 8 and loved the movie They Live and also him as a wrestler. I wanted to talk to him about it, but all he wanted to talk about was how awesome my dad was for picking up and throwing a guy who tried to run up on piper at a different show. I was too young to realize at the time, but he wanted me to look at my dad as my hero and not him or any other wrestler or grown man. I really appreciate him for doing that.
Roddy was definitely a good brother RIP
Amazing story Brandon. Roddy seemed so cool, and a NATURAL when it came to wrestling.
Reminds me of when I was a cashier at a gas station and he came in. it was at like 2am, he must have been travelling between towns. I pointed down the candy aisle and said, the bubble gum is down there, wouldn't want you to run out. He laughed. Seemed genuine.
I met Hot Rod at the gym in Hollywood in 2011 and he was with a younger dude and they working out. I didn't really much attention to them other than it was an older guy working out w/a younger guy. It wasn't until the older dude (who was wearing a beanie) started throwing air combinations like a boxer would AND he looked he knew what he doing so I looked a little closer. It took me a couple of times of checking him out, but the face..........and I remember the exact moment it dawned on me "That's Roddy Piper!". It took a couple of minutes before I mustered the courage to approach him and I didn't know what to say so I remember just blurting out to him "Roddy Piper" and he said "Yes sir". I talked to him for a couple of minutes and he was totally cool. I'll never forget that, it couldn't have gone any better.........sometimes meeting your heroes is a good thing.
Cool story bro. Thank you for sharing it.
I can tell you that the $75 he (and Piper) would give to the guys who put them over on TV was like giving them a million bucks. Shows a lot of heart and a lot of respect.
Roddy Piper class act and Don Muraco very good interviews !!!!
That really shows how much the guy cared for the business and ppl in general... When I first started watching wrestling Piper vs Hogan 96' Starcade, when he won, (should have had the big belt) was the first pay-per-view I ordered... 🎉
Rowdy Roddy Piper was a great man!
Magnificent
That's really classy and makes me think even more of Roddy and don.
Class act!
I miss piper
I wasn't the biggest fan of Roddy Piper but doing the cartoon era. He was so popular he could have been a short-term wwf champion. I sad short term because no one was going to win that title besides that old balding guy. I wasn't a fan of his at all.
don was my fav in the 80's, i got my wwf tix for a ortland show he was on but he didnt wrestle dang it! i heard he was hurt. all good i saw hm on tv tons and the hammer wrestled so yeah! go don!!!!!! go bro!
