The version I heard from my father was that Harley bought a ticket to a WWF event in whatever territory it was he was the booker, and when Jim Barnett recognized him he asked security to scort him out. When they approached him, he leaned back against a wall and pulled back his coat so they could see the pistol he was carrying saying he had a ticket and was staying. Jim Barnett started screaming "Oh my god, he's insane!" Security backed off and Harley left without further incident.
I did hear a lot of other stories about Harley that I don't have space to tell. My father had a lot of respect for him.

I heard this story about Harley: After Brody was stabbed in Puerto Rico, Manny Fernandez was in a match against Jose Gonzalez (the guy that stabbed Brody) and Manny dropped 3 knees in Gonzales chest for real and fk'ed him up good. Manny ran from the ring, and Carlos Colon put his goons on Manny. Manny ran to the dressing room and Colon turned the lights out. Harley Race was in the dressing room, and he had a flashlight, and he found Manny, and they hauled ass to Harleys car. Colons goons were closing the gap when Harley went in his bags and grabbed a 357 that he tossed to Manny and Harley grabbed a sawed off 12 ga for himself. Harley told Colon's boys he'd cut em in half if they took another step. Then Harley and Manny headed for the airport and took the next plane back to the US.

Ric and Harley were good friends. One story that Ric tells is that he and Harley were in one of the bars on Laclede's Landing after a show in St. Louis and a drunk jumped Harley from behind. Harley went to punch him and when he hulled off he accidentally hit the guy behind him with his elbow and then hit the drunk with his fist and both guys were knocked out. So effectively Harley knocked both guys out with one punch.

Don Muraco to my eyes is the most underrated talent of my lifetime. I came in the early '80's when he & Pedro were feuding and then dove-tailed right into the Snuka feud. No one talked better or was better on the mic than Muraco in his prime. My dad who HATED pro-wrestling walked in one Saturday morning while I was watching (WWOR-9) and saw a Muraco promo and laughed so hard he started choking! When he composed himself, he looked at me and said "now that son-of-a-bitch is funny!" Great moment.

He really doesn't if you watch more clips. His long term recall is great, but he loses his train of thought in the middle of a sentence all the time. Forgets what he is talking about while talking about it. But you are right that he is better off than most wrestlers his age. Hell, most don't make it to his age.

Boy Harley was as tough as they come. But if you want to see the epitome of racism. Watch a interview with Harley and Ron Simmons, Harley cuts deep and I'm quite sure it was a work cause shortly after Simmons became the first black Heavy weight 🤔 Champion. But Harley sold it
