      Professor Baez, I would first like to thank you for your informative and concise videos. I am a prospective law student who has recently taken the LSAT (still awaiting scores) and in the process of application. I can definitely relate to obsessing over grades and wanting to get an A in every class during undergraduate.
      Now a senior, I realize that experience and maintaining focus while discerning law school have been the two most valuable tools. (And of course maintaining a good GPA has helped, too). The steps that I am taking to get into law school are strengthening my resume, seeking letters of recommendation from professors, and applying early to law school, as applications at my dream school are reviewed upon a rolling basis.
      If you have any advice for what I can do to better prepare myself for law by gaining connections/experience, it would be greatly appreciated. This semester is completely remote for me, so my house is my classroom. Thank you in advance and I look forward to your reply! Please continue your videos; they are appreciated.
      Gratefully,
      John

      Experience right now is hard to come by given the large number of law students competing for the same opportunities. The key is to actively look for them. For example, if a lawyer or judge is making a presentation, go to it. You will learn something and might make a connection.

      @@Learnlawbetter Understood, thank you! Interestingly enough, I am co-producing a documentary about "true crime" for one of my undergraduate classes and have had the opportunity to (remotely) interview two lawyers. This alone has offered a good basis for some legal connections even during a pandemic. I will continue to pursue such connections. Thank you very much for the reply!

    It's funny to watch how organized you were at such a young age. I didn't become organized until my early 40's. I'm not in an elite law school, and I chose a Nursing degree as my major. At ASU, a nursing school A is 93-100%, a B is 85-92%, and a C is 77-84% with everything else not passing. I chose, perhaps, the hardest major to end up getting A's. I ended with a 3.53 at 35 years old. Now, at 46, I'm in my second year of law school. I'm not at an "elite" school, but I am on the Dean's list, and I'm doing things I never thought possible. Just remember, no matter when you start, or what has happened in the past, don't give up on becoming what you want to be.

    Man... The journey to law school is killing me. My GPA is fine and all, I currently have a 3.8 at Fordham... (I graduate next semester and expect to keep it that way)
    However, LSAT prep is burning me out immensely. I started studying in early December, and managed to go from 153-161... 1 1/2 months isn't a lot of prep time, and I shouldn't have expected insane gains, but it's pretty demoralizing. I'm genuinely going to feel like trash until I hit 165.
    I plan applying next cycle, so I technically have time. Yet, the stress of prepping makes me wish I was over it already.

This is a complete change in course for me because I majored in Music in undergrad and got a Masters in Music performance. I got a 3.57 in undergrad and a 3.82 in grad school. Would these numbers still be good enough to get into top schools?

    I always find it weird that to be a lawyer in the USA you have to attend college and then get into law school. Here in Argentina we have law school as another degree in college, and we don't have S.A.T, L.S.A.T, or Bar Exams.

      If you have a high enough LSAT score you can have a good chance to get into a top law school. You will also need to take the TOEFL, which is a test to measure your English skills. Finally, know that our exams are timed essays. Many foreign students struggle with them because they don’t think in English.

    How beneficial would you say an undergrad in business is to a lawyer?

    • @Learnlawbetter
      @Learnlawbetter  3 года назад +1

      It has some value, but not much. This is because an undergraduate business degree is, by design, an overview of the area. And, it generally only expects students to learn concepts, not apply them.
