Congratulations and best wishes for your time in law school. It was fall, 1964, I was a 19 year old senior in college who had taken the LSAT that fall. On professors' recommendations I had also taken the GRE and planned to attend graduate school. But my LSAT score was particularly high, I had a Harvard application in hand, the fee was not too bad, so I applied to Harvard Law School and five graduate schools. Harvard accepted me, and now I am a retired lawyer living on a farm. It sounds like things were easier back then. Your video was fun to watch, and I look forward to seeing your progress in school. I hope you have a good pair of snow boots.
This is such a cool comment, Larry! Hopefully my legal career will be as successful as yours when I graduate (and one day retire), and I will certainly take your advice concerning the snow boots!
@@user-ri4hf7bt4z it’s very possible to graduate at 19 if you took credits in high school that transferred and took extra classes each semester. I’m on track to graduating at 19 this upcoming summer

Hi Larry! I love this comment. As someone studying for the LSAT right now I would be very interested in knowing what the LSAT was like when you took it. Did logic games exist back then? They're the bane of my existence... hah.
congratulations! I finally found someone who I can relate with. I'm currently a STEM major who initially wanted to go to medical school but fell in love with the law after studying international relations abroad. I was kinda nervous switching since I felt like I knew nothing about political science, but this video made me feel better. Thank you for the helpful tips and best of luck to you!
Hi Susan! I'm so glad to hear that you could relate to my unique circumstances. So many law school applicants think they have to major in liberal arts to have a shot at law school, but that's definitely not that case. I hope your transition out of STEM was successful; best of luck with your law school journey!

Since I keep getting this video recommended to me, I finally wanted to come here and comment. The thing about law school admissions is that they’re very much a crapshoot. A candidate Harvard may jump on one year is one they’d completely reject the next. That doesn’t mean that those rejected kids didn’t have great applications, stellar extracurriculars, and an amazing personal story just like her. You could literally be the exact same candidate as she, apply to Harvard, then get rejected. Thousands of perfect candidates get rejected from these schools every year, and there is no noticeable difference between who gets in and who doesn’t. As someone who attends a T20, you got lucky and so did I.
Hey! I’m a hs senior from Canada. I’m looking to major in English for undergrad because I’m really passionate about it. I know it’s really early for this but becoming a lawyer is my dream job, so I really appreciate this video! :)
Perfect timing, Ariel! Now you have the general roadmap to guide you through your undergraduate experience for next year in college. Best of luck to you, I am so glad I could assist you on your journey to fulfilling your dream. :)
Tysm this cleared up a lot my parents think it’s a fase I’m in but I really do want to get into Harvard and I’m trying my best, I cancel a lot of things to be able to study and get into Harvard and I really hope I will get in.❤️
SOO happy I found your channel.Wondering if you could put up a video about being a splitter w/ a low gpa but lsat above school median. do you suggest EDing to your dream school? would love to hear your thoughts.
Hi Lucy! Haha, technically this IS my splitter video. I was a "splitter" for HLS because my GPA was below the 25th percentile and my LSAT was above the 75th percentile. And when you're a splitter like me, DEFINITELY apply early decision (if available) or apply as early as possible. HLS doesn't have ED, so I just applied as soon as I possibly could! Hope this helps! Would you recommend submitting a diversity statement if the challenges you faced are going to be acknowledged (or the main topic) in the personal statement? Or would that be considered redundant?
Hi Falyn! If you're only acknowledging some of your challenges in your personal statement, I think it's perfectly fine to flesh out those experiences in a diversity statement. If you are already largely addressing the topic in your personal statement, I would try to choose a different topic. Each essay is a wonderful opportunity to show a different facet of your life/side of yourself. Make the most of it! Hope this helps! Babs
I am almost 13 and I realised that i wanted to study Law and actually be a lawyer. I've had this dream for about a year now. I live in India and things are different here. We have High School for 3 years meaning 8th grade, 9th grade and 10th grade. After that we have a choice to either attend 11th and 12th or PUC. I dream to go to Harvard but I would need to understand how things work there. I know its more or less the same but I really want to get accepted into Harvard. This is not because I want to get accepted into an ivy league school or anything. Its because Harvard has this really special image in my mind compared to other ivy schools. Sure Harvard may be popular but if i do get accepted there, i would be very happy. I am trying to study more effectively and am thinking of attending business school for my undergrad(if thats possible. I am still not very aware of how it is there). I may not get accepted but I will try my best.
Great video! I just had a question. If I’m planning to go to law school right after undergrad when should I take my LSAT and applying to schools? I’m graduating the spring of 2022
Hi Jose! If you graduate in the spring of 2022, that would mean you're planning on starting law school in the fall of 2022. You should take the LSAT the summer of 2021 and send your application by the fall of 2021. Hope this helps!
Q: if you take a (few) year(s) to gain experience after undergrad you would wait to apply until the year you want to go in? (just for clarification bcz ik undergrad you can apply, get accepted, and then defer admission) ALSO you can still ask profs for recommendations even after 2 years of graduating? did u keep in touch w them that whole time out of school (generally)?
Hi Hannah! Yes, if you decide you need more experience before you apply to law school, you would wait to apply until applications open for the year you want to apply to. For example, I wanted to start law school in the fall of 2020, so I applied the fall of 2019. It is true that some people get accepted in undergrad and defer admission, but it's pretty rare for people to defer unless they have a very good reason to (ex. completing TFA, finishing their fellowship, etc.). And yes, you can still ask profs for recommendations 2 years after graduating. Professors usually remember students that produced excellent work and worked on honors projects with them. I didn't keep in touch with my recommendors after I graduated from undergrad, but they were still happy to write letters for me. Hope this helps!
I’m just a kid in middle school already taking notes on how to get into Harvard. I really want to go there one day. This really helped me. I filled up 2 pages of my notebook With all the information you gave me. Thank you.
1) Harvard OMG so amazing! This was the most insightful and concise law school admissions video, I really appreciate your transparency in regard to GPA, LSAT, ECs, and experience - not many people are as open or truthful! 2) I have two questions: Would you recommend starting one's app junior year (for someone that wants to go straight into law school after undergrad)? How did you find an internship, I'm having a hard time as most "legal" internships are for law students? Were you part of any pre-law campus organizations such as clubs?
Thank you, Yasmine! I always wished I had someone be transparent with me when I was going through the law school application process. The more transparency there is out there, the more equitable the law school application process becomes! To answer your questions: 1) You should start preparing your application the summer between your junior and senior year of college if you want to go to law school right after undergrad. I would submit your application as early as possible in September, and no later than Thanksgiving. 2) My university had a program specifically set up for exceptional students to get public policy internships in D.C. I would check with the pre-law advisor at your university to see if your school has something similar you can apply to! 3) I was not part of any pre-law organizations in undergrad. Hope this helps! Babs

I'm so glad I could help, Ella! The law school application process can be a scary one, but once you demystify the process it is much easier to tackle head on! Best of luck to you! Babs
wow this video went into great detail and this is very much appreciated! I felt like I was going through the process as you were explaining. Thank you for sharing your experience so others can know what to expect.
Of course! My goal in making this video was to make the whole law school application process more transparent and accessible to future law students such as yourself! Best of luck in your future endeavors, Shatiek!
This video has really given me such inspiration. I pray that Harvard Law accepts me as I prepare to apply a year from now. I am currently a junior in college and studying to take my LSAT in June of 2023. I have a few questions: 1. How many hours a day did you study for the LSAT? 2. Is it impossible to get accepted to HLS if you don't have any opportunities to do research and internships as an undergrad? 3. Could your GPA and LSAT balance each other out (e.g: if you have a fair GPA, but a really high LSAT score, could HLS take this into consideration, despite your score not being the highest compared to people applying with 4.0s)?
Hi Sabrina! To answer your questions: 1. How many hours a day did you study for the LSAT? It varied, but I studied around 0.5-1 hour a day on weekdays and 3-5 hours a day on the weekend. For a step-by-step walk-through of my study schedule, check out my video, "HOW TO STUDY (Effectively) FOR THE LSAT | How I Scored a 175," available here: ruclips.net/video/XdUexJelpxQ/видео.htmlsi=XcnYOvtUuqURatZJ 2. Is it impossible to get accepted to HLS if you don't have any opportunities to do research and internships as an undergrad? Everyone's application is unique, and there is no "master formula" for guaranteed acceptance. If you didn't have the opportunity to pursue research and internships in undergrad, law schools still greatly value a high LSAT score and GPA, prior work experience, stellar recommendations, and well-written personal statements. 3. Could your GPA and LSAT balance each other out (e.g: if you have a fair GPA, but a really high LSAT score, could HLS take this into consideration, despite your score not being the highest compared to people applying with 4.0s)? Your GPA and LSAT can certainly "balance" each other out. For example, my GPA was below HLS' median GPA at the time but my LSAT score was in HLS' upper percentile. I think these two data points balanced each other out in my case. I hope this is helpful, and best of luck with your law school applications!
You are a lifesaver, thank you so so much! I have a question if you don't mind answering :) I'm a junior in college with a high GPA and a promising LSAT score, however, I'm struggling to find the "proactive" aspect to my application. I work as a legal administrative assistant right now but I am not published nor accredited at the moment. I have been singing for about 10 years and I love historical analysis, but I'm not sure where to start to hone those skills into something that stands out.
Hi Neha! It sounds like you already have a solid resume, with a legal background and interesting hobbies such as singing and historical analysis. I don't have the whole picture of your background, but here are a couple of suggestions for adding a more "proactive" aspect to your application: Ask your employer to assign you a major project. You could add a bullet point about this project to your resume to demonstrate your legal skills. What are you studying in college right now? Does it involve historical analysis? Did you have a professor that particularly inspired you? If so, you might want to reach out to that professor about research opportunities that you can help out with! As a final note, you do not have to be "published" or "accredited" to have a strong resume. Taking on a major project for a student organization also reflects the initiative law schools are looking for. Try to get creative when looking for these kinds of opportunities. Since you are a junior in college, you still have a whole year left to get involved in undergraduate research or a student org! Hope this helps, Babs
What a privilege it is to be able to spend so much time studying for such a score.. As a poor first-get student, the best I could do was 166. I do hope the top law schools consider the struggles I noted in my applications.
I wish I found this video years ago - applying RN with basically the same stats and as a first gen this gives me a lot of hope to get me through the months of waiting. Thanks for all the tips and advice, keep it up
Best of luck to your law school application process, Kaleem! One of my favorite things about Harvard Law School is that they have so many first-gen students. I believe there's an extra spark of something special in first-gen students, use that to fuel all your future endeavors!
I'm still a student at my Brazilian university, but I'm already reading and seeing to apply for Harvard. Your video was so helpful, thanks a lot! If I could ask you some other questions I would appreciate it a lot! Thank you again!
Another person who did not go straight law school!!!! I was a double major English and Elementary Ed. I have taught second for three years. Great job on getting into Harvard. I love the real world information you give in your videos. Once again, thank you!!!!
You are so welcome, Tory! It's nice to hear a fellow teacher, they could use more of us in the legal profession! It truly is common to take a couple of years off between undergrad and law school to figure out where your true passion lies! Slow and steady wins the race, no need to rush on big life decisions-law school isn't going anywhere.
Wow! I watched some of your other LSAT resources and prep videos first. Amazing content and it shows that hard work, commitment and consistency pays off! Congratulations on Harvard law! Looking forward to more videos
Thank you so much for making this great video! Since I will begin my undergrad studies at Texas A&M this year, seeing an incredible success story like yours is very motivating/encouraging. Are there any resources or clubs/organizations at A&M that you would recommend for a prospective law student?
Thank you for this video! I was feeling pressure to apply to law school right out of college but unfortunately that would conflict with my military training. It’s comforting to see that a lot of Harvard Law Students have gaps between their undergrad and grad.
Hi! I’m loving your advice videos. I was curious if you could please do a video on how you managed studying while working a full time job. I’m struggling to get all my studying in and I feel behind! Also do you recommend any LSAT prep courses like Kaplan or Powerscore etc for in person/online classes
Hi Aleena! I actually made a video about how I managed to study while working a full-time job in my video: HOW TO STUDY (Effectively) FOR THE LSAT | How I Scored a 175. Link here: ruclips.net/video/XdUexJelpxQ/видео.html&ab_channel=BanterwithBabs Essentially, all you need is 30 minutes of studying a day to make an impact on your LSAT studies. That's pretty manageable, even on a work schedule! To answer your second question, I also made a video on my favorite LSAT resources here: ruclips.net/video/TCO__QGlTIY/видео.html&ab_channel=BanterwithBabs. My personal favorite resource is the LSAT Trainer, but everyone's learning style is different so check out the video to figure out what program might be the best fit for you. Hope this helps! Babs
After watching this video I think this is the career path I want to take; you are very inspiring and professional. Can we get a day in the life, and a hat type of law do you plan on studying?
Hi Chino, thank you for your glowing feedback! I ABSOLUTELY plan on doing a Day in the Life video as soon as I can. Harvard Law is no joke and nowadays I'm just trying to figure out how to master my routine. Once I have a good system down, I'll share my routine with you guys! :) As of right now, I'm thinking of working in big law followed by a career as an in-house counsel.
I really liked your insight on professional experience. One of my friends has been in Harvard for a year - we were both engineers before he took the opportunity to do his LSAT and move on to focusing energy law & contracts. How much of your work experience did you draw on for your personal statements? In his opinion, he felt that his work experience had a lot more breath vs. his undergrad because he dealt with a lot of those issues of law. (and his undergrad wasn't related to law at all).
Hi Jonathan! My personal statement drew exclusively from my work experience as a science educator. I felt the same way as your friend, it can be difficult to explain the transition from a STEM undergrad to law school without some work experience to clarify why the law profession is a good career choice for you. I can't advocate for getting professional work experience enough, it makes a huge positive difference!
I have a question. If I apply to several law schools can I just duplicate the recommendation letters or would I have to get 2/3 different letters for each application?
You can use the same letters, but ask your recommenders to personalize the letterhead of each recommendation letter so that each letter will be personally addressed to each school. Alternatively, you can have each recommender address their letters generally (e.g., "To whom it may concern"). Hope this helps!
Hi! Just wanted to say, for all the videos like this one on RUclips, yours is by far the most helpful, clear, and authoritative. Thank you for sharing!
International students can study at Harvard Law through its LLM program. For more information, check out HLS' LLM program page here: hls.harvard.edu/graduate-program/ll-m-program/. To answer your second question, HLS does not distribute merit scholarships but it does provide need-based aid. For more information, check out HLS' information page here: hls.harvard.edu/sfs/prospective-and-admitted-students/prospective-and-admitted-need-based-aid-philosophy/.
Thank you for making this video! I think a lot of people, including myself, would find it very useful if you continued to make videos -- about your time throughout law school and maybe as a lawyer as well.
Thank you for these video. As someone who wants to go to Law School, but is scared of the process. As it seems so daunting and it seems I'm not up for it. You really calm my nerves and give me confidence that I can do this.
so happy for you!!! though I have some questions. who takes your interview? where do they take it? and if online do they prefer calling you to the university if you live close enough or are comfortable traveling?
Your interviewer is selected at random. A list of Harvard Law interviewers can be found here: hls.harvard.edu/our-favorite-interview-questions/. All interviews are conducted over Zoom, no matter how close you are to campus. HLS does not take in-person interviews to make sure everyone's interview experience is equal.
Hi Babs, as a fellow Asian ( South Asian ) , you had to fight harder to get in strictly because we are considered ORMs. Congrats to you on your accomplishments.
Hello, I am starting my LSAT prep today. I graduated in May 2019 and spent a year working in finance. I was scared that by taking a year off from school would diminish my chances. But hearing from you that alot of applicants gain some real world experience really helped. Thank you and good luck!
Hi Isaac, The earliest I first started thinking about law school was when I was nine, but I definitely didn't do any research about it like you until I was 16! In fact, a lot of people don't start considering law school until they're about to graduate from college. You are still young and have a lot of time to grow and discover your passions. It's wonderful that you're thinking about your future now, but remember to live in the moment and enjoy life as a teenager! :) You have more than enough time to worry about law school in the future. Best of luck to you Isaac! Babs

Hey! Thank you so much for these useful informations! However, I still have a question... Is it possible for an overseas LL.B. and LL.M. Graduate to apply to HLS JD program?
Hello Muhammad! Traditionally, students in the U.S. get their JD before getting their LLM so your education credentials are actually quite advanced compared to the typical U.S. law school candidate. I doubt having an international LLM would preclude you from being a JD candidate, but I would suggest you contact the HLS admissions office for clarification. You can reach them here: jdadmiss@law.harvard.edu
Hello, I hope my comment finds you well but do you have any advice for those international students applying for Law School in Harvard? Also, can we apply and how do we apply for scholarships?
Will the process be different than this for a international student??? I'm not from the United States but I would apply to Harvard. I also wanted to know if a vision science/optometry undergraduate can apply for law school as well??
Hello! For questions about the international student application process for HLS check out their FAQ page here: hls.harvard.edu/dept/jdadmissions/apply-to-harvard-law-school/the-application-process/frequently-asked-questions-for-international-jd-applicants/ And yes, any undergraduate major can apply for law school. Hi Robert! You are correct! I was a part of the summer PPIP cohort my junior year at A&M. It was one of my FAVORITE experiences in undergrad, I hope you enjoy yourself as much as I did! Say hello to Stephanie for me when you can! Cheers, Babs
Hi Alexa! If you plan on starting law school right after graduating college, I recommend applying the fall of your senior year of college! If you plan on taking a gap year, you have a lot more flexibility but I still recommend you apply as soon as applications open (usually September). Hope this helps! Babs

Wow finally someone who is wearing a Harvard sweater who ACTUALLY goes to Harvard.
Babs
Great video, can you drop the background music ??
Banter with Babs thank you so much!
Wait you got with a 3.66? :s makes me feel better about being a 3.8 GPA CS undergrad and feeling like I had no shot.
Banter with Babs yes this helps a lott!!! tysm!
Hi am a 10 year old girl with big dreams and i hope one day i get in to Harvard Law school as well.
Hold on to those big dreams Gia! Best of luck to you in all your endeavors.
Tell me in a decade how it went, please :)
Glad your self aware and thinking about it now instead of later in your pre-university years. Work hard and I follow your dreams
@Sunny Panda: same
I hope you get into Harvard Law and I wish you best. Keep working hard
As a highschool junior interested in law school, I just want to say this video was VERY inspiring for me.
I am so impressed you are thinking about your future career so early on, Gabriel. It's clear you have a bright future ahead of you!
Me too I’m junior looking to go to Arizona State University and then go to Harvard
Hi, um I have a question. How can I get into pre-law institute courses? I can't find one with the full know-how
Im a sophomore from Finland and I agree w you, so inspiring!!
update?
I’m just a kid in middle school already taking notes on how to get into Harvard. I really want to go there one day. This really helped me. I filled up 2 pages of my notebook With all the information you gave me. Thank you.
Wow! Way to go!
same but I’m so confused abt the LSAT
Same altough i never take notes
Same but no notes
To answer your questions:
1) You should start preparing your application the summer between your junior and senior year of college if you want to go to law school right after undergrad.

Going to Harvard Law straight from Highschool ----> Undergrad without W/E will already put you at a disadvantage tbh , you're considered KJD

I have a few questions:
Hi Sabrina! To answer your questions:
1. How many hours a day did you study for the LSAT?
It varied, but I studied around 0.5-1 hour a day on weekdays and 3-5 hours a day on the weekend. For a step-by-step walk-through of my study schedule, check out my video, "HOW TO STUDY (Effectively) FOR THE LSAT | How I Scored a 175," available here: ruclips.net/video/XdUexJelpxQ/видео.htmlsi=XcnYOvtUuqURatZJ
I never thought I'd be accepted into Harvard Law. I majored in Fashion Merchandising at CULA 4.0 GPA and only applied to be close to my ex boyfriend.
Love the Legally Blonde reference!
This video made Law school feel achievable for me, and I appreciate your insight. Thank you, and congratulations!
That's my goal! Law school should be accessible to all those interested in it; sending you my best wishes.
I don't have the whole picture of your background, but here are a couple of suggestions for adding a more "proactive" aspect to your application:
Ask your employer to assign you a major project.
Hope this helps,
Babs
How did it go?
@@Liamvshobos I think he went to Cornell Law!
I'm still a student at my Brazilian university, but I'm already reading and seeing to apply for Harvard. Your video was so helpful, thanks a lot! If I could ask you some other questions I would appreciate it a lot! Thank you again!
I'm happy to answer any questions you might have here, Jonas!
@@BanterwithBabs Can I go to an undergrad in my country and the go to Harvard law.
Thank you for following along with my journey, Daniel! Truly, hard work is what it all comes down to. Nothing can substitute it!
Your entire youtube page is super informational, I'm very glad I came across your channel! Thank you so much
I am so pleased to hear that, Anne! Best of luck in your law school application cycle!
I’m starting my first year of undergraduate in September. Hopefully in the next 3 years I can come back to this video and say “I GOT IN!!!”
Wishing you a great first semester at college. And can't wait to get an update from you three years from now!
Thank you so much for making this great video! Since I will begin my undergrad studies at Texas A&M this year, seeing an incredible success story like yours is very motivating/encouraging. Are there any resources or clubs/organizations at A&M that you would recommend for a prospective law student?
Howdy! CO20, thinking of going to Law School after my daughter graduates high school
Thank you for this video! I was feeling pressure to apply to law school right out of college but unfortunately that would conflict with my military training. It’s comforting to see that a lot of Harvard Law Students have gaps between their undergrad and grad.
100%! It's more common at HLS to take a gap year than it is to be KJD.
Link here: ruclips.net/video/XdUexJelpxQ/видео.html&ab_channel=BanterwithBabs
Essentially, all you need is 30 minutes of studying a day to make an impact on your LSAT studies.

Wow! I love the honesty, thank you for the video! I guess you just love the color maroon
I guess I was just always meant to be a Gryffindor!
I'm class of '22, Gig 'Em!
Whoop!
I can't advocate for getting professional work experience enough, it makes a huge positive difference!
bruh BOTH of my parents went to harvard for law school so the expectations are super high but this video was helpful :)
What a power couple!
Man. It’s so cool that two lawyers married!
That increases your chances! They can read your apps and help you prep and give you a better idea of what they are looking for :0
Dropping the H bomb 💣 at such a young age! Your parents must be so proud!
I am a sophomore in my undergrad and wanted to get a deeper dive into law school. This was helpful.
Excellent strategy on your part to be thinking about law school so early!
@@BanterwithBabs is there any way we can talk about different strategies and different school options?
When you’re only 13 but know exactly what you want to do in life
Yes! Shoot for the stars and follow your dreams!
Good luck at Harvard
Hi! Just wanted to say, for all the videos like this one on RUclips, yours is by far the most helpful, clear, and authoritative. Thank you for sharing!

Is International students can study in harvard law school...?? Does have any scholarship exam for law school?
Of course, I plan on it! :)
3.66 is high enough for me, I'm at 3.3 with a year left and 3.6 is a really far stretch
Although rare, it is not impossible. No one knows your story better than you, always shoot your shot!

so happy for you!!! though I have some questions. who takes your interview? where do they take it? and if online do they prefer calling you to the university if you live close enough or are comfortable traveling?
Thank you and good luck!

omg should i be worrying about this when im 13?When did you start to think about law school? Is it normal for a 13 year old to feel that way?
Hi Isaac,
The earliest I first started thinking about law school was when I was nine, but I definitely didn't do any research about it like you until I was 16!

Wow..... Congratulations. Can u put me through, I want to do my Masters in Harvard. How do I go about it.
Hello!
For questions about the international student application process for HLS check out their FAQ page here: hls.harvard.edu/dept/jdadmissions/apply-to-harvard-law-school/the-application-process/frequently-asked-questions-for-international-jd-applicants/
And yes, any undergraduate major can apply for law school.
Hope this helps!

Hi Krishna,
If you're taking the LSAT in January for admission that same year, I would say that's pretty late. I wouldn't recommend it. You should have everything in your application ready to submit by Thanksgiving at the latest.
