- Wow, we come across nice things along the way! Among other things, we drive parallel with a Koploper into Amsterdam. Earlier in this film we did the same with a metro on Amsterdam Amstel. What is the current status of the Dijksgracht? And for the viewers who want a challenge: where do you see a beautiful Citroën Mehari? We use an SLT as a local train from Utrecht to Uitgeest. From Uitgeest we drive empty to Alkmaar. Enjoy watching!

Wauw wat komen we onderweg weer leuke dingen tegen! Onder andere rijden we parallel met een Koploper Amsterdam binnen. Eerder in deze film deden we datzelfde maar dan met een metro op Amsterdam Amstel. Hoe ligt de Dijksgracht er inmiddels bij? En voor de kijkers die een uitdaging willen: waar zien jullie een prachtige Citroën Mehari staan? We rijden met een SLT als stoptrein van Utrecht naar Uitgeest. Vanaf Uitgeest rijden we als leegmat door naar Alkmaar. Veel kijkplezier!

Correction, if I may: Amsterdam Amstel was opened in 1939 (at this "level 1"). It replaced Amsterdam Weesperpoort terminus (at "level 0"), straight ahead where we turn right. (On the map of Amsterdam, search "Rhijnspoorplein". Some footage of Weesperpoort station exists here on RUclips.)
Trivia: (1) Originally, Amstel station featured four railway tracks, plus a stub (between the southbound tracks) where people could drive their cars onto car wagons of "car-sleeper-trains" for their holidays way South. When the metro line got constructed, the two middle tracks were sacrified for it (hence the ballast field on the North side, where we turn right), and the "car-sleeper-trains" got their loading stub at Abcoude (that white building top left while we dive under the river Gein). When that aqueduct came, the car-loading moved way South to 's-Hertogenbosch.
(2) That straight trackbed from (now) Amstel station to (former) Weesperpoort station allowed for creating an urban "race track", and the (originally) narrow Weesperstraat saw hardly any dwellers return to the remains of their houses after 1940..45. That is how that (for Amsterdam) a-typical stretch of road came to be.
Muiderpoort station originated at "level 0" on the Amersfoort line only, just across the road we cross after leaving this station. When the railways got raised to "level 1", Muiderpoort became the current fork station.
Trivia, in fact a question: When we stop at Muiderpoort station, you can see the space for a track to our immediate right. I (b1956) can remember a stub track there, with some white coaches ("Blokkendoos" stock?) on it. Maybe even up to 1970. Would anybody here happen to know the purpose of those coaches?
For those wondering about the sand between our train and the one joining from Amersfoort: Dijksgracht yard is being replaced by a crossing: our Utrecht tracks are to dive under the Amersfoort ones, and ultimately occupy the northernmost four platform tracks at Amsterdam Centraal station. This will eliminate quite some waiting and crossing other tracks. (Keyword: "Amsterdam PHS")

Well, I may elaborate a bit: Amsterdam and Utrecht have always been tightly connected. The main route used to be by water (for the most part the river Vecht) and the roads (think of tow paths) alongside the waters. Then, in 1843, came this railway from (just Southeast of) the town of Amsterdam to (just West of) the town of Utrecht. I don't know why the route was designed as it was, but the rural villages on the river got their stations at a distance. The station in the URL was built under the obligation that every passing train would stop there. - But, in 1852 the canal was opened to replace the meandering Vecht. So, now the people of those Vecht-side villages had crossing the canal added to the distance to the station. The original canal wasn't too useful for shipping, but its post-WW2 improvements (width, depth, bridge-height) have made it a water highway. Road traffic had to meander along, until the A2 motorway became constructed to the West of the railway in the 1930s. So, nowadays all through traffic bypasses the riverside villages - and racing bicycles have taken over.
I may repeat an earlier comment of mine on Amsterdam - Utrecht, but I'll adapt the direction: around 1965, leaving Utrecht on the double track would show some heavy industry till Maarssen (and no Zuilen station). Maarssen would be an old island-platform type station, serviced during rush hours only. Then you'd enter a green desert, featuring Breukelen station, with its level junction and waiting, then the small siding left of Nieuwersluis station, with the line to (ultimately) Haarlem branching off. (There is footage on RUclips of the last train at the level crossing of the motorway.) Then green desert again, with Abcoude station as another oasis, until showing the business park (now replaced by apartment buildings) to the left past present-day Duivendrecht station while finally rising for Amstel station.

Om misverstanden te voorkomen: de aftakking naar links direct na Duivendrecht is die van Metrolijn 50 naar Sloterdijk. Direct daarna is Metro Opstel. Het metrostation direct na Duivendrecht is Metro Van der Madeweg en heette bij de metro eerst Duivendrecht.

Goedemiddag meester collega, ik was eventjes dit filmpje aan het bekijken voor het opdoen van de wegbekendheid... ik moet namelijk volgende week examen doen, voor dit traject vanaf zd, en vanaf Hlm richting amr, en hrn... alleen heb jij dat sein gezien op 1:16.04 wat gelukkig groen was... die heb ik nog niet eerder gezien in het seinenboek haha

Another enjoyable cabride from the Netherlands. Again a question related to operations, at 1:12:16, there is this signal which I have seen on other occasions, but cannot find what it indicates by on line searches, maybe an over height indicator?
Thanks. It is an indicator for track workers. When flashing, a train is coming over that track.

Met welk programma edit jij je video's Cabview Holland ? Zelf gebruik ik Sony Vegas Pro 18 ervoor Kun je niet een keer een screen recording maken van een video die je aan het bewerken bemnt. Ik ben wel benieuwd waarmee en hoe jij de beelden voor Cabview Holland edit want ze zien er netjes uit.

@@CabviewHolland Apple software dus. Maar dit doe je netjes je beelden zien er altijd erg netjes en zeer duidelijke kwaliteit uit. Ik kijk dan ook altijd met bewondering naar je traject video's tof dat je de hsl nu er ook tussen hebt staan.

@@CabviewHolland Ja eerlijkheid moet gezegd worden je beelden zien er goed stabiel en duidelijk uit. Zo ie zo is het al vrij lastig fimen in een tram of trein vaak. Maar goed zoals ik toen in Amsterdam al zag hoe je filmde plak je de cam waarschijnlijk tegen de ruit aan neem ik aan waardoor die stevig en stabiel vast zit neem ik aan of zet je hem gewoon in de camera los tegen het raam aan zonder die zuig nappen die je toen in Amsterdam bij die museumtram wel had gebruikt ?

Er was daar een sectiestoring en dan kan de treindienstleider alleen geel knipper geven. Nee, niet naar Dordrecht. Te klein stukje om te filmen en ik heb voorlopig mijn handen vol aan het editen van de Nostalgie Express :-)

They just look like someone's bigger, street legal, golf cart. Okay, glad that is done, over, finished, se acabó. What is the meaning of the flashing yellow signal on the approach to Amsterdam Centraal? a flashing green signal indicates a diverging route through a crossover, correct? But after the flashing yellow this did not appear to be the case.
Wat betekende de flikkerende geele signaal bij de ingang naar Amsterdam Centraal? 'N flikkerende groene signaal betekent dat men door de buig van een wissel gaat, juist? Maar naar de flikkerende geele signaal was dat niet het geval.

1) Am I the only subscriber to bemoan the demise of the train information in the opening sequence - which has been supplanted by a train route overlaid on a ROAD-MAP, for goodness sake!
2) This is a strange service. It is all stops Utrecht - Uitgeest, and then becomes express from Uitgeest - Alkmaar. Weird.
This route is not available in the usual app. The part after Uitgeest was not as a passenger train.
