Louis Wolheim enjoyed a prolific career on stage, and in film going back to 1914. This one, unfortunately was his last performance. Hugh Herbert did a fine job as First Mate. Mary Astor, of course 🥰, goes without saying. Good movie. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for listing this Rarely seen Talkie. Louis Wolheim is such a Hairy Beast, broken nose n all. Cant see why Mary Astor took so long in resisting him..lol Seriously, I enjoyed watching the elegant Miss Astor, as the duplicitous heroine in this hackneyed melodrama with shades of Garbo's Anna Christie (30). Still A bit of a waste of Astor's formidable talent, but to me, she's one of the underrated treasures of 30s Hollywood----see her performances in Behind Office Doors (31), Red Dust (32), Maltese Falcon, the First Film Noir femme fatale and her Oscar winning turn in the Great Lie (41). This was Wolheim's last film before passing of cancer in Feb. 1931, he was reputedly a very erudite and well - respected actor..
I’m a 79 year old woman 👵🏻 and from the first time I saw him acting in a movie with his beautiful wife Jill Ireland, I loved 🥰 to watch their acting together years. They we’re over much too soon and I can’t imagine the amount of pain when he realized that she had the breast cancer ♋️ that she died 6 years later. As near as I’m able to tell, they were married 38 years long when she died. He was 15 years older than she was. 😢😢
Oh wow 😮 That was even a better ending than I could possibly have hoped for. 😅😅😅😅Thanks so much. My heart hurt 😢 so much when he found out what he thought she really was. However, he knows the truth but I thought that then she was going to have to go back and serve some time in prison and even that was taken away. 😅😅😅😅
I once had the same thing with a man 15 years older than me when he died. He had a raspy voice and a watch with a black band and I know how silly it probably sounds but I thought that he was about one of the sexiest men that I had ever seen. He died 33 years ago and I still miss him. When he called me and we talked the calls were erased off of my phone and I wished that they hadn’t been. Then , at least I could have still been able to hear his voice when I wanted to. I’m still able to hear it in my mind though. 😊😊😊😊
The color is blurry on this movie. I watched another one just like this one. At first it was hard to watch and sometimes I couldn’t even tell who was the person was Chris or not unless I knew who the person who Kate or someone else who knew Chris. In spite of the way it looked as if would turn out, in a last minute twist it had a happy 😃 ending.
Oh my, now I’m not so sure that I’m going to like this movie so much. Unless that woman changes her attitude by the end of the movie 🍿 this is not going to have a very happy ending. 😢😢😢😢😢
Wolheim was a very highly-regarded actor then. Even allowed to direct a bit. His looks, like Edward G. Robinson's, Charles Bronson's and Woody Allen's, for example, were overlooked.

This film would be good if the music weren't total crap. What whoever made the music did: was dash off a few excellent themes that went nowhere and then present a mediocre piece of sh*t as a great masterpiece.
Since you’re obviously ignorant of anything concerning classic movies I will try and explain In 1931 sound movies were still fairly new and a short 100 minute B picture like this didn’t have a big budget so they used the studio band or orchestra The music was basic as to not distract from the story Big budget first run movies could afford a composer/conductor for the theme song and accompaniment
I can never get enough of Mary Astor. Thanks for this film!
Great movie, top notch performances by Mary Astor and the sea Captain. well worth watching thanks 🎥🎥🎥🎥

A quick synopsis on your movies would be helpful.
Two misfits coming together to make them whole in needing each other.love comes in different ways to different people.

Boy 👦 he don’t make no bones about it don’t he ??? He just comes right out and tells it like it is. 😅😅😅😱😱😱😳😳😳😅😅😅
A sad foot 🦶 note 📝. Mr Google said that he finished this movie 🎥 just 1 month shy 🙈 of his 55th birthday when he died from cancer ♋️. 🥺🥺🥺😢😢😢😩😩😩

WHAT COULD SHE IN THE CAPTAIN ?????...EEK 1111
I agree. The Captain is a bit too old and not very good looking. The husband is a real jerk.

He was the George Clooney of his day.
Keith was more of the Matinee Idol type. Good actor who had a solid career just like Wolheim.

Huh?
Her husband is a terrible actor when he’s telling her to not to see Captain Macvee anymore. 😅😅😅
Oops 🙊 sorry. It was Captain Macvane. I thought Macvee looked funny spelled that way. 🙊🙊🙊😅😅😅
