Just so everyone is aware, this isn't a film. Netflix adapted it into a 2-part series with each part compromising of 8 episodes. The first part will be released Dec 11th.
I have been wondering whether this book was ever made into a movie and I have been thinking that it would have to be a series or a very long movie. I have been thinking about how difficult it would be to adapt well. After a failed attempt, I am reading it in Spanish right now. I am not a native speaker. I´m level B2, so it´s very difficult for me. I read 1 chapter per month. I am on chapter 16, so I have been reading it for 16 months now. I am in a book club with 3 other people and we discuss it. One has degrees in Latin American and Spanish literature (as do I), but he explains the book. I did my undergrad thesis on Chronicle of a Death Foretold (Crónica de una muerte anunciada) by Márquez. That´s when I fell in love with the author. My heard jumped with excitement when I saw the trailer. It almost brought me to tears! I can´t wait for it to debut. I will watch it in Spanish with Spanish subtitles to help me improve my language skills. This is an important book for everyone to read because it explores the human condition and the history of Latin America through the microcosm of the fictional Macondo.
Another thing that makes the book more identifiable is that it feels like the stories that everyone's grandparents here in Latin America (which is where I am from and where I live) would tell their grandchildren, which is very identifiable.
this is literally the most predictable and expected thing they could have done, why are you talking about it like it’s some incredibly genius, subversive move
This is one of the best books I've ever read. So captivating story and it really made me go deep into each character and feel the story rather than reading. I felt like I was witnessing the entire incidents. I read this many years ago and now after watching this trailer I'm feeling to reread it. Currently I'm reading Love in the time of cholera which is also so captivating and magnificent like One hundred years of solitude. Waiting for this series. ❤❤❤❤
I really don't believe anyone can convey the depth of this book in a movie. I've read it so many times in both Spanish and English that I simply can't believe it's possible.

@@josefinam5710 That's a cute way to try to explain it to an evidently ignorant person. But that's not a good argument either. Because not everyone uses both last names in Latinamerica. And to just say "Marquez" is ignorance of the highest level.
I have never read a book that was as magical and mundane, as heartbreaking and ironic as 100 years of solitude. I hope the movie can somehow catch the inherent beauty of this book❤
Lets be honest. As a Latin person I've known of this novela almost all my life. I've never expected to see it on the screen, much less in subtitles for the English audiences. The answer is simple. Hollywood. That's why I'm so happy there are streaming services today. Today, thanks to Netflix and other platforms, there are no more gatekeepers who decide which story should be told. Now, all the doors are open to see whatever you want on the screen. I am happy for Latin America, for Colombia and for the Spanish world. We are finally being noticed and known. Latin culture is so incredible and profound and the only thing we have been known for are drugs, cartels, corruption, dictatorships, etc. But behind that dirty surface there is a incredible and vibrant culture full of magic that fascinates every foreigner that dares to visit. This is just another way to get into the deep. I hope this time we see something of the magic realism that Gabo intended in his works.

My entire world changed after a friend let me borrow this book from her grandfather's collection back when I was in highschool. I've always wondered if it would be possible to adapt it to a tv/ott series since a lot of what's in the book seemed like they'd lose their essence if not adapted with the utmost care. But the trailer has convinced me otherwise. I'm sooo excited to watch this!!!!!!
Without question, the best book I have ever read. The film version of "Love in the Time of Cholera" was mediocre at best, but given this has 16 episodes, it seems like they're taking the time to do it right. I'm anxious, hopeful, and skeptical. I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised.
I really hope they can do this book justice because it is an absolutely beautiful story. It was my father's favorite book and mine also. First book I read for pleasure as a young girl in Colombia. I've read it in both languages and loved it each time. Now I have my father's copy on my nightstand ❤

Non-Hispanic audiences don’t realize how big of a deal this project is. 100 years of solitude is one of the most if not the most important piece of latinamerican literature in history. It is of utmost importance that Netflix gets this right.
NonHispanic audiences are perfectly well aware of the importance of the book. One Hundred Years of Solitude has been translated into 46 languages and sold more than 50 million copies.
It's not about non Hispanics, maybe non readers, cause I assure you , everyone that enjoys reading, loves this book. It's truly a masterpiece. That like saying, non whites, don't understand how amazing William Faulkner's books are.

Wow! impressive!
Another thing that makes the book more identifiable is that it feels like the stories that everyone's grandparents here in Latin America (which is where I am from and where I live) would tell their grandchildren, which is very identifiable.
At one point, Francis Coppola hoped to film it...
My hombre, that’s pretty impressive for English already! You should be proud!
This story needs at least 5 season, please do some promotion, it's a world wide novel!
I am glad that they have dramatised the famous first line of the book in this teaser. ❤
From the moment the reader reads that first line they are hooked!
this is literally the most predictable and expected thing they could have done, why are you talking about it like it’s some incredibly genius, subversive move
@OrangeJews1138 Not sure you know what the word subversive means! Also, they just said they liked that they used that line. It's not that deep.
@@Pat_Springleafhaha funny you say that, cuz as soon I saw the first couple of seconds, I immediately knew what it was gonna be
Too bad the rhythm is so badly off. I hope it's just the teaser editing.
WOW. QUE MARAVILLA!!!❤🇨🇴🕊
The opening line of this book is the best of any i have ever read...and I haven't even read it in the language it's written in. INCREDIBLE book.
I really don't believe anyone can convey the depth of this book in a movie. I've read it so many times in both Spanish and English that I simply can't believe it's possible.
Márquez's masterpiece is finally coming to cinema 😭😭😭😭♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️ thank you so much
García Márquez …
Don't get your hopes up. This is not going to work !
@@josefinam5710 Good to know. Thanks. But for all of us who are not living in hispanic countries, Marque means only one person. We know only one Marquez.
@@TheMrgoodboy2 Let's suppose you are right, which you aren't. Then you would have to call him "García" you dummy... Gabriel is only his name, "García" & "Marquez" his two last names.
@@josefinam5710 That's a cute way to try to explain it to an evidently ignorant person. But that's not a good argument either. Because not everyone uses both last names in Latinamerica. I think "Gabriel García Márquez" is special because it's a brand. So to say "Gabriel García" means any cat, "García Marquez" you know who is it. And to just say "Marquez" is ignorance of the highest level.
man o man, loved this book when i read it in my mid to late 20's. I'm 43 now.....might have to pick this one back up, excited.
I have never read a book that was as magical and mundane, as heartbreaking and ironic as 100 years of solitude. I hope the movie can somehow catch the inherent beauty of this book❤
“…so dense a commingling of the improbable and the mundane…” - from Rushdie’s Midnight’s Children. Your comment instantly reminded me of it.
Did you read it in spanish?
@@maracayg sadly no, I cannot understand a word of Spanish :( I read it in German… but the Spanish version must be even more stunning!
One of my favorite piece of literature turning into a movie. Hope They do justice :)
It's rare for Netflix to make quality movies, let's hope this one is a happy exception. The book is splendid.
Netflix made 'All Quiet..' last year...
No way this is a movie the book is too long for it to be a movie
Not that rare. Netflix has some really good movies and series
It's got to be a series to make it right! Can't wait!
Seran 16 capitulos ❤
@@exoisexo8602 super! 😍
This would be one of the hardest books to adapt into a series. I hope Netflix does justice to a masterpiece of a novel.
Recently read this classic novel, and I thought to myself how cool a movie would be.
Looking forward to this!
It took me 10 tries to read that book, but once I did it catapulted into my top 5 favs. This kind of magical realism can finally be filmed. Wonderful!
Just literally got goosebumps, I'm Colombian, my favourite book (what a cliché) in my beloved country❤
I just finished the book few months back. Now waitingfor this series. 🙂
What do you think about it?
@@isabelamelendezcarvajal4908 I loved the book.
@@meghbanerjeemusic I glad and it's a good time for reading again
@@isabelamelendezcarvajal4908 You are absolutely right. I am really planning to read it once more before watching this show. 🙂
@@meghbanerjeemusic the book protagonist in teaser open is in Sanskrit , is this in the original text or they have changed it ?
Dear Netflix,
Please don't make a mess of this.
P.S. Strong and gripping trailer.
Warm Regards,
Jeet.
Always dreamt of seeing this one in picture. Thanks Netflix.
One of the best written intros in a history of writing.
This book was a tough read but I am happy that I did it. Definitely a tragic family
This is my favorite book and I can't wait for the adaptation. But I also can't stop thinking about the fact that the manuscript being read in this video' beginning seems to be a Hindi translation of One Hundred Years of Solitude!
Not a good book, a great book. A story that's magical and immediate, heartfelt and deserving of the greatest care. 16 episodes. I can't wait!
Marquez is an absolute favourite of mine. The way he weaves magic into his novels/writings is so mesmerizing 🥺
Super excited for this one! Also they chose the perfect Aureliano ❤
My favourite book and my favourite writer..if they are going to ruin it I will be so upset. ❤❤❤
Magical realism really done well.
Is this a movie?
@@ShaukautKhanseries!
This book will hurt your brain. I wouldn't have it any other way. This was outstanding. Thank you Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
Netflix finally making quality content? What year is this, 2017?!
Gabriel José García Márquez
OMG, I can't believe this, I have been waiting for this since the first teaser was released years ago, 😢😢😢😢😊
What a book. Not getting hopes up given the depth and breath, but here's to doing it justice.
It's one of the best books i've ever read. I'm kinda nervous how they are going to pull it off.... I think some stories are better told in written form. Especially a story as intricate and meandering as this.
one of my favorite books of all time!!!!!!
Me too, but I hope it won't take one hundred years to be released on NetFlix LOL I mean, "coming soon" ????? Really ???? This trailer is six months old !!! When are we gonna see it ??????
@ exactly!!!!! Like can we get an estimate time at least 😩
@@dacey186 ❤👍🙏
best opening line in all of literature
The book is one of the best pieces of art I have ever read, hopefully they do justice to it..
looking forward to this Cien Años de Soledad . Wondering how the screen writer will condense this long novel. My expectations are high
16 episodes, two series of 8 I hear.
One of the best novels I have ever read , multiple times . The novel takes us into a long , difficult, yet fascinating journey of self discovery and family relationships . I read the novel in both English and Spanish languages . I hope Netflix does the author and the novel true justice .
'like water for chocolate' the film was a great entry into this genre as well
To bring this to the screen and do it justice is an ambitious effort to be sure. Godspeed on this one. I'm intrigued.
That's kinda racist. We all know the value of this work and its importance.
The most important piece of Latin American literature would be “Pedro paramo” which this book tools great inspiration from
It's not about non Hispanics, maybe non readers, cause I assure you , everyone that enjoys reading, loves this book. It's truly a masterpiece. That like saying, non whites, don't understand how amazing William Faulkner's books are.
Each page of this book is a beautiful painting. This looks ok, but I dunno, I just wish we could leave well enough alone sometimes.
Magical realism is finally coming alive on Netflix. Let us be honest that this story is beyond any human abilities to create it visually. But we should be thankful that someone is attempting it. My love and respect for the makers. Keenly awaiting.
From Romania: I just LOVED this book, please let the series be good! Also, it's great that it's filmed in Spanish, from the English title I was dreading it being in English.
Best book ever in history! ❤ hope you don’t mess it up 😢
so many Marquez's fans coming to celebrate his one of greatest work come to life. it is exciting, however, the magic that novel weaves with words is unmatched and I don't think it could be possible to show that, still I am optimistic, its something to celebrate
I couldn’t watch Love in the Time of Cholera and I likely won’t be able to watch this either. I just loved both books so much…
Gabriel didn't want any of his novels to be made into TV shows because he wanted everyone to have a version of his books in their heads
This book is my favourite of all time, I'll watch the show but can't help feeling sad about that
Best novel!!
Viva Colombia !!!!!!
