Very smart, and in the end Bismarck got his way. Too bad for him, because us baguettes managed to hold you back in WW1. (We don't talk about WW2)

The march is often played on Schützenfeste, you could call it a type of festival where usually the local association of marksmen/sharpshooting club (Schützenverein) celebrate with alot of beer (obviously) and shooting down a wooden bird to determine the club's "Schützenkönig" ("King" of the club) until next year's festival. This is usually played during marches. Usually when the king and queen march along/are introduced. Schützenfeste are rooted in the traditions of millitary celebrations, which is why marches such as this one are often played.
