This march, one of the most beautiful military marches ever written, was composed by King Frederick the Great to celebrate the glorious victory of the Prussian army at the battle of Hohenfriedberg on 4th June 1745.
In 1845, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of such a glorious victory, words were added to it turning into a song with the title "Auf Ansbach Dragoner!" as a tribute to the regiment of dragoons "Ansbach-Bayreuth" whose glorious charge decided the battle. Therefore the instrumental version is still known as "Der Hohenfriedberger"

ist ja einfach nur ein marsch, der für den sieg der preussen über die sachsen geschrieben wurde. von daher hat es mit dem "heutigen gesamtdeutschland" ja nicht das geringste zu tun. höchsten mit parallele zur zeit, als die mauer noch stand - mit seeeeehr viel phantasie :P

Much of the Prussian tradition is indeed gutted away, but it still uses, well of course, German march music; it's not as if they'll start making newer melodies inspired by their their glorious defeat _and march playing it._

It's sad to see so many people brainwashed into thinking all Germans hate Germany and are apologetic. Hell, some of them would have you think they make marches inspired by their defeat and march proudly to it.
