Honestly "clinching" in a boxing match baffles me. Seriously, I though boxing supposed to be a STRIKER combat sport.

A guy on the internet When you start taking shots to the head, you are at risk for cerebral damage or even dying, clinching is necessary.
If head trauma was that big of an issue for EVERYBODY INVOLVED head strikes would be just as against the rules as a nutshot, or they'd actually wear protective gear. Yes head trauma is serious but when literally everybody in this sport, and in this case EVERY striker combat sport, professionally chooses not to protect themselves then they accept that risk.
The only reason ANY rules exist in any combat sport is to (hopefully) eliminate the possibility of death and significantly reduce the chance of maiming/crippling injuries.
A guy on the internet If you look up old boxing matches from 19th century ( the origins of boxing), the would clinch a lot more. Learning how to fight in clinch was considered an important aspect of boxing. Some guys would even hire greco-roman wrestlers to help them prepare. Nowadays the referee break the clinches almost instantly.
Hence why clinching in modern boxing is so stupid, it's effectively a grapple in a specifically striker sport. They wanna hug, fine, but at least let me beat the crap out of their liver or skull for a bit without giving up my ring position.
Clinching in modern boxing is like tapping out, only you don't lose the fight because somehow somebody thinks that makes sense.
