  • It's time to make a list I loved making. As someone who plays a ton of JRPG, I decided to make a list for people who want to jump into the genre. These 7 games can all be played right away and picked up right now, so go give them a try and dive in!

    I'm not done with it yet, but I would add "Eiyuden Chronicle" to this list. It's relatively easy but it's more about managing your items, your equipment, and your base. I think it would do a good job easing people in who are interested in the older style JRPGs but want SOME of the modern conveniences of newer games.

    Final Fantasy from 7 to 10 is a great place to start too, 8 and their Junction system can be tricky to learn but it's not that hard to get it. Materias and the crystal system for 7 and 9 respectively aren't hard at all. Final Fantasy 9 is the sweet spot for me, and you have the remastered versions with the upgrades to speed things up a bit.

    And... Because I really liked it as a kid with little to no experience in J-RPG back in the day, I cannot recommend Xenoblade Chronicles enough. A great cast of character, a vast world with identity to explore, gorgeous OST and a remake who does everything the first did on the wii but BETTER with QoL improvement here and there, some OST entirely remastered from the ground up and new system to help the player measure his own difficulty. 10/10 experience 👍

      Def a great choice! Though it can be pretty tough at times haha

    A tentative recommendation from me would be Kingdom Hearts 1. As a kid that was the game that got me into JRPGs (and introduced me to final fantasy). You can easily learn about the concept of MP, potions / healing, and skill selection, things that are pretty standard across the genre through that game. Also the combat is a bit rough around the edges but if someone is new to action JRPGs (or action games in general really) its simplistic enough that i think can still have fun and a sense of accomplishment when they beat the tougher fights.
    The only caveat though is that im honestly not sure how it'd hit for an adult if they were to play the original nowadays. The story goes a bit off the rails after KH 1, but that first game i still view as a pure experience, even if it is a bit simplistic.

      For sure KH was a big staple in my childhood. Saying that replaying it now, super aged, with some really bad controls and also it's hard as balls on anything other than easy lol.

    A very solid and diverse list. Some honorable mentions IMHO are Ni No Kuni 1 due to the Ghibli-esque art that many know, FFX due to a great story and cast of characters, and Fire Emblem Three Houses that has a persona 5 type confidant system but grid based, strategic battles.

    Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth is another great game for beginners; it is very similar to Persona but without the time management.

    • @UltimateChance
      @UltimateChance  Месяц назад +2

      Digimon wasn't too far off! I was gonna put it on the list if I did a top 10 for another monster collecting style game!

    For me, it was Fire Emblem three Houses that hooked me. Afterwards, i played Persona 5, all Xenoblade Games on the Switch, Mario RPG and now Persona 3 Reload.
    I think, all of these games are great starter RPGs

      Fire emblem on my strategy list so I wanted to be fair but that's great starter!

    DQ11 is absolutely beautiful and the story is fun but the music drove me insane to the point where I could not play anymore after about 25 hours. I found the music to be so annoying

      @@UltimateChance Interestingly enough playing this game is what got me to trying Pokemon for the first time. I could never get into playing on a Gameboy system (screens were too small), but I finally got the 3DS when Ocarina of Time got remastered on it and X/Y were coming out so my brother let me borrow Y, he's a big Pokemon fan lol, that was the first game franchise he really got into because he loved the anime as a kid. I enjoyed Y, it was nice.

    My first JRPG was Grandia 2 (so thanks for showing imagery of that). It pretty much set the standard for me and is still my 2nd fav RPG (Eternal Sonata beat it out). I don't know if I would recommend it for beginners though (even with the more recent Grandia remaster with the 1st and 2nd games). I don't know if the remaster did this, but there was no difficulty setting and as much as I love this game, it's one major flaw is the difficulty spikes in the game (only happen twice).
    Great video though.

    Yakuza 7 is a terrible place to start in the Yakuza franchise. Yakuza 0 is probably the better place to start. If you start on 7, you'll be pretty confused around chapter 12. Characters will start showing up and you feel like you ought to know them but you dont because they are from previous games.

    • @UltimateChance
      @UltimateChance  Месяц назад +1

      Had a few of my friends start with 7. They were fine. But infinite wealth def hits harder if you played the others.

    • @DaakkuuYRS
      @DaakkuuYRS Месяц назад +1

      Yakuza 0 isn't good as well; it spoils the story and twists of Yakuza 4. There isn't any game in the franchise that is good for beginners, even Kiwami 1 as it builds on Nishiki's development in Y0 with the new cutscenes. Story wise, the only game in the franchise that is good to start is the original Yakuza game, and even that is in the Japanese version.

    You should start off with final fantasy 13-3! That’s better than all the games on here or parasite eve.
