      Watching the gameplay he put into this video, didn't look like he got too deep into the combat, didn't see him switch eikons once. The joy wasn't in the difficulty or depth of the enemies, which yes I agree should have been built on, the joy was in figuring out min/maxing the ability combos.

      @@robe8723 The point is that you don't need to max any ability combos to beat ANYTHING in the game. You don't need to switch Eikons if you don't want to. FFXVI asks for no thinking at all. There aren't even any elemental weaknesses. If you want to do all the combos, etc., sure, its there and its flashy cool as all hell. But its an empty game compared to other FF in my opinion, and the story was just a big let down.

    I thought FF16 was a B- or a C+ at the lowest. The battle system & sidequest were the only real glaring issues but easily it's better than XV.

    • @JC-cb8oi
      @JC-cb8oi 8 месяцев назад +1

      It’s true because XVI is actually a complete story. XV was made like Western developed games, we got that early access style when it first launched and now it’s a Frankenstein’s monster of a game being held together with patches and DLC. Hell, the story isn’t complete without a damn novel. XV isn’t complete and the story is too fractured to enjoy without doing some work.

  • @Nauct
    @Nauct 8 месяцев назад +18

    FFXVI is like a DMC game. It's easy to beat, the fun comes from doing huge combos and countering the enemies.
    I spent time in training mode learning combos, juggling, keeping myself in the air, stagger combos. Feeling badass when I pulled them off and parried/countered every move.
    You say you don't need to learn because they die so fast, old Final Fantasy games you didn't NEED to learn how to buff, use skill synergies, target the enemy weakness, you could just grind and mindlessly kill everything. The fun comes from mastering the system.
    Do you really think the game would be better if you HAD to do optimal combos? Then 99% of the players wouldn't be able to beat the game
    You play Tales of Arise and other Tales games right? Those games are easy AF too, the fun is doing combos and when you get really good using your whole party to combo
    Square has Octopath, Bravely Default, all the game to fill our turn based needs. A Final Fantasy game has always been about the story and cinematic experience. The action combat system, when you're good at it, improves that cinematic experience

    • @ShadowEliteHD
      @ShadowEliteHD  8 месяцев назад +8

      Yea nah. I'm pretty sure in FFX I couldn't beat Seymour 2nd form without Haste and Delay attacks. So I needed to learn how to buff and debuff. Would have had to spend a lot of hours grinding to beat him and that's just one example in the FF games.

      @@ShadowEliteHD LONG TIME FF fan here and I think XVI was great. It's not my favorite by any means, but I thought there were many facets that still gave it an identity as a true FF entry. Final Fantasy has always been a series that takes chances and dares to be different at the risk of alienating fans of their previous entries. I appreciated the stab they took and thought they did an admirable job. I do think they could've added more legit rpg elements, equipment mattering more etc... but the characters, their voice actors, their relationships with one another and their story was very well told. The fact that you didn't connect with them just tells me you didn't give it an honest go. It's pretty clear you went in with a negative mindset from the get-go. I get wanting to play as the other party members, but when FFXV came out, you could only play as Noctis unless you bought the season pass, which I think is a worse treatment to fans. Honestly, you should've just stuck with your D-rating even at the risk of alienating your own fans. Would've been more FF-like of you rather than that cop-out post edit.

    FFXVI has been real fun for me. It's too easy for its own good and never punishes you for messing up, but I really found the story interesting and engaging, wanting to learn more of the world and lore. Leveling up it's not really that important as you don't require to grind at any point of the story, the progression feels natural and you'll never be under leveled. The combat is fun but you can get away with the same strategy for all the fights. Voice acting, music and presentation is undeniably top tier. Not the best FF, but a solid one in my opinion.

      The game is intended to be played more then once to unlock the harder difficulties and then you will see how difficult the game gets but sadly most people stopped at playing the game once and never got any further to see the game in its full glory. You can tell the creator of this video did the same thing and never bothered to play the game more then once and then complains about the difficulty of the game being to easy. The first playthrough is intended just to follow the story really and get you used to the combat system. The game really picks up on higher difficulties.

    Sea of stars was just a good game. I thought it looked beautiful, the combat was fun however I felt the combat wore out its novelty about half way through and I think the reason is because characters never unlock any new abilities.
    You pretty much end up defaulting to the same ones (moonarang) over and over.
    I feel a big part of a JRPG’s fun is a sense of getting stronger and more optimized as you learn new skills and abilities that give you an edge with new encounters. Which I feel sea of stars sorely lacked.
    Also the music was meh? Like it didn’t sound very jrpg-ish if that makes any sense. I think a good sign of a jrpg with good music is if you can hum a handful of the themes and I couldn’t hum any song from that game for you.
    Story was fine, it was pretty standard for a jrpg and I don’t think that’s a bad thing if it’s executed well. Not even kidding when I say I only remember two characters names and both aren’t the main characters lol. Garl and moraine cause they both actually had a personality whereas the two main characters felt extremely under developed personality wise.
    Like FF16 in terms of overall enjoyment i give it a solid 7/10. It was a very average jrpg.

I was so disappointed when the Baten Kaitos HD collection came out, and they stripped out the dub... Persona 5 Tactica, for me was enjoyable, but didn't really hit those highs, and Toshiro was one of my problems, because of how whiny he got in his interactions with the thieves. Strikers was WAY better with its moments with the Thieves
    Star Ocean 2 remake. Best remake, GOTY for me. Respected the original, but still felt new and fresh
    Trails to Azure, I'm so glad I finally got to experience the Crossbell story in its entirety
    Reverie: Fun interactions, especially in the Reverie corridor, however the 3 routes made the pacing feel pretty disjointed. Hopefully we can see what Calvard has to offer. Also, Osborne daydream is the best substory, I will fight anyone who disagrees.
    Fate: Samurai Remnant was fun, because of the general style, and I like how you can interact with the cities you go to similar to the Yakuza games.
    And for Monochrome Mobius: Good standalone for the Utawarerumono series. Good time waster if you want something simple.

  • @NicolasAlexanderOtto

    Someone needs to explain to me what is good about Sea of Stars (other than the outstanding Design). After 10 hours I couldn't stand another minute of it. The battle system was so rudimentary and even after 10 hours I still only had the same 4 effective skills to choose from and absolutely no strategic depth, the characters up to that point felt bland and boring (in the village where people disappear all the time). I didn't get to the first major plot point apparently, but I just couldn't help it. It was so boring. Maybe it's because I played Chained Echos before, which in my opinion had one of the most satisfying battle systems of all time. Is there any use of trying to push on, does the game get any more interesting if I didn't like it up to that point?

    I do hold Final Fantasy XVI alot higher than you because I think the game has taken a step back from some of the things that was holding the last couple of entries in the series back. I would place it as a weak A tier game I don't think its top notch but I do think its pretty good. However when it comes to the battle of the game my impression is that its the weak part of the game. I myself after playing through it called it "Very Flashy" but not very deep and I really don't feel like I'm rewarded for becoming better at it at the end of the day its a very flashy button mash. Other than that I can agree with Sea of Stars and Octopath Traveler 2 both games are really nice and focus on skill rather than flash in combat which I think its an upside.

    I think 16 story, soundtrack and epic battles were top tier, however as a GAME it was really generic and lacking. It was missing some of the RPG elements that make it Final Fantasy, like items that severely empower or modify your character, exploration stuff to find secret things that actually feel rewarding, I don't know exactly what else but it felt like it was missing its soul. Sidequests were extremely generic and felt more like a chore and the combat was just missing something. I also enjoyed the combat of Tales of Arise which is quite action oriented, but to me it was way better than FF16 combat. I don't have any problem with the linear story (hey FFX is probably my favorite maybe behind 9), it was really just the combat system and missing elements. The system from 7 remake I actually enjoy a lot more than this one.

      A ton of Action JRPG's have a better combat system than FFXVI, only having one playable character, with only one weapon type was the first mistake, then you add the fact that there is no buffs of debuffs and no elemental damage despite using elemental attacks. How the fuck is the swords Flametounge and Icebrand not hit with their respective elements? how does Malboros bad breath not inflict poison, darkness silence etc? All these things just make it a very boring and repetitive battle system. Crisis Core, Type-0, Strangers of Paradise, and non FF games like Nier, Kingdom Hearts and Tales of series all do action RPG combat better.

    As for your opinion on base Xenoblade 3 I can name what your issue is: the game lacks a cutscene/plot point that's as good of a hook as the first 2 games early on in the game. I have NOT finished the game yet though I had it a month after its release (also why I haven't played the dlc expansion either...I'll go back to it eventually but other games took precedence over it due to this reason) and got to close the end of chapter 4 according to the guide I was using (mainly for side quests/get an idea of how far I was) and there hasn't been a cutscene that hooked me...the closest was the very first cutscene of the game (the initial cutscenes of the 2 lights (probably the worlds) speeding towards each other into the first war cutscene)...all others (like some of the Ouroboros scenes) looked good but still weren't on the level of say the first time you fight Malos after meeting Pyra scene in XBC2 or the Vandham scene in XBC2 (granted...3's Vandham/first Ouroboros scene may be the next best one and closest one to a good hook in 3 after the initial war scenes).
    The characters were great imo and the story's solid however the way the cutscenes were executed for the most part just didn't pull me in at all, throw in I'm also one of the players that actually doesn't like the Xenoblade series combat (I don't like MMO style auto attack systems or ATB systems...I only really played the series cause the story and characters are very good but I'd have prefer either full action where you control every aspect of the combat and don't hit/miss/get hit/dodge based off rng or full turn based in the vein of Dragon Quest or Trails or hybrid systems that have turns where you can do multiple actions such as Eternal Sonata/Fairy Fencer F/ Valkyria Chronicles (though Xcom like would be more accurante there)/etc)...if they ever do a Xenosaga remake like a lot of people are predicting they'll do soon (I've seen a few videos suggesting it'll happen) I hope they keep the combat system more classical turn based/like OG Xenosaga (or a rework of it to fix any balancing issues and glitches)...at best a art style change to Xenoblade style would be cool and hopefully some rewrites to the story to fix plot holes and pacing issues the games apparently have (never played it so can't say exactly what issues they were but a lot of people mention many issues in this regard...likely due to them cutting a lot as the game was originally supposed to be 6 games and got cut to 3...maybe a rewrite to include some of the stuff from the cut games even if it meant 4 games would fix these issues).

    FF7 remake was the best direction for keeping the rpg elements while adding action elements. I’m unsure why they tried to go full action with ff16. The ATB should be a set thing for all FF games whether it turned based or not imo

    • @virtualstring2925
      @virtualstring2925 8 месяцев назад +2

      I personally love the combat in 16 and hate it in the 7 remake. The way it's mixed between turn-based and action gets annoying when it's pretty much all about the ATB. Maybe this is just me, but attacking and dodging feels boring, and micromanaging ATB usage between characters stops the action and makes you go through the menu to pick what to use, and the ATB attacks aren't even enjoyable like in other turn-based FF games

      @@Gadgetmawombo Exactly. I feel like a lot of people don't like FF16 because they think of FF games as turn-based classics. I've not played them when I was younger, so I take the games for what they are. I do understand that people don't like that the game changed into an action game, but I don't think the game deserves hate for not being turn-based

    • @jclosed2516
      @jclosed2516 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@virtualstring2925 I guess that was because they considered FF15 went in the wrong direction, and a huge crowd was really hoping FF16 would be a return to the "roots". In stead FF16 went even further than FF15, and smashing all hopes in the process. That gave the lovers of the FF franchise the idea that their wishes where completely neglected. Of course that sat not very well, to put it mildly, and that has caused this backlash...
      To be clear - I am not a real lover of the FF franchise (I like the Trails series way more), so I can look at this in a neutral way.
