  • Worse show ever! First ever show jump refusals in a competition during nearly five years of owning Pigeon. Definitely time to trust my gut and get a few MOTs done starting with a saddle check! It is so unlike Pigeon to stop (especially in the show jumping) and that is usually an indication that she is not comfortable!

    I adore the way you handled this. Hearing their owners voice in such a calm manner is always nice for the horse. I did the same when I used to show competitively. It may be a show, but the love between you and your horse is what matters most. They are family!! Hope she is doing well.

      Exactly Krystal... we are a team of two! She is currently enjoying being ridden bareback while we wait for the saddler to get out to us (just another week or so). There is talk of jumping tonight which might be interesting... must be at least 20 years since I jumped without a saddle (cameras on I think)! Thank you so much for watching and sharing those kind words :)

    I am so glad that you treat Pigeon super well when it comes to refusals. Most people would smack their horse with whip so the horses is scared and has to go over the jump, while you're over here patting her and tell her it's ok, and that it was your fault, and not hers. You're so inspirational :D

  • @laurenwh2080
    @laurenwh2080 8 лет назад +3

    You're so inspiring and you're so positive and happy with your horses, it really irritates me when people start hitting their horse when something goes wrong, but you stay controlled and don't get mad! Also, some people don't talk to their horses apart from growling at them when they're riding, but you always have a little stream of banter going! You have such great humour as well, even when you fall off (in other videos)! Well done xxx

    You are such an excellent equestrian because when your horse refused, you stayed nice and calm and talked to her nicely where as some people would of screamed and shouted at their horse. You two are an excellent pair

  • @ChrissyWhispers1
    @ChrissyWhispers1 10 лет назад +6

    I loved how you handled your horse and how even when your horse knocked or refused a jump you didn't get angry with your Horse! The fact that you can say "You're not right are you sweetpea?!" shows that you recognize your horse's feelings and emotions. Definitely pat you on the back for that because there are many horse owners out there who don't give two hoots about that. In my books..... WTG!

    I really hope she's alright! I absolutely adore the two of you together, you're such a wonderful team. You inspire me to be the best I can possibly be, and since I started watching your videos months ago, I've been much more giving with vocal praise. It's not that I never wanted to praise the horse; it just wasn't the first thing on my mind when I rode. And with how much I love horses, I wanted to make it a priority to remember that. So now, months later, I rode yesterday with two friends, and one of them said I talk to the horse as if she were my daughter. And even though she's not mine, she's a lesson horse, I primarily ride her and I do adore her. So thank you for being such a great inspiration to me! I hope Pigeon feels better soon!

    You've probably already found out what was wrong with her, but one of our horses had exactly the same problem, and we found that she had pain in her hocks which was made worse by getting deep I to the jump? The ones she refused she seemed to get quite deep in to, could it be something linked into how she doesn't like getting in deep? I'd be interested to hear if you did ever find out what was wrong- thank you! Xx (well handled btw, that's how it should be dealt with!)

      It was frustrating, but mostly confusing - so unlike Pigeon to not want to jump! When she first refused she was off stride pretty bad and that bunny hop she did after I counted was 2 & 1/2 strides. It happens, it's ok! Also please dont ever stop after something bad has happened, I've been taught to end on a good note for instance I have a almost 5 year old thoroughbred mare who has her moments, she took off with me a few days ago and it was pretty horrifying as instead of slowing down when approaching a fence or gate she gallops and then dead stops, I made it without falling but I bailed off when she hyped up turning around. After that I was pretty ticked because I felt like I pushed her (were training her to event, shes an intermediate and I'm a novice but I'm being helped and coached) because I trotted her over a cross rail but in reality she was just hyper because instead of lunging i just walked her dismounted a little, anyways after that i walked her in the saddle for a WHILE until we was SOO bored of it and then trotted her the same place she took off. Basically what I'm saying is if you end a ride on a bad note a horse can pick up bad habits but if you end on a good note they are like "Ok if I do this next time I'll get a treat" or whatever. But what do I know I'm a 13 year old novice rider with 2 years of English equation experience 😂❤❤ - we also found out how sensitive she is and that the snaffle was too much, were getting (I believe it's called) a happybit in the eggbutt shape to make her more comfortable, if that doesnt work we will do a hackmore ( it think that's how its spelled)

    I have never seen her like that! It shocked me! I had the same problem with my other horse at one point and I got her back checked and after that she was as right as rain! So maybe if is worth getting her back checked out x

    • @anadin56
      @anadin56  10 лет назад

      Thanks for sharing your experience and idea! I did get her back checked a couple of months ago but it may need some more attention. I want to have a saddler first though (I have known he to stop when her saddle is not sitting right) as that might be causing a sore back... I'll keep you all posted and might get some videos from bareback or loose jumping while I wait for a saddler to come out! ;-)

    (It's quite expensive but) we had a chiropractor out to my horse and if you have continuos problems it might be an idea.

      @anadin56  10 лет назад

      Poor lad (they really have no self preservation when they are out in their paddocks). I had Pigeons back checked a couple of months ago but it may well need another tweak. I want to get the saddle checked though. If the saddle is causing pain in her back we need to address that first.... but all the good saddlers around us are so busy. Lunging and barebacking it is for now :) x

    Wow reminds me of me and elvis last week at crown farm! Stopping then climbing over them! Got his back checked and he was stuff in his back end.. Hope this was the reason!! His saddle is new and fitted to him so it's not that!
    Good luck with the checks!

    • @anadin56
      @anadin56  10 лет назад

      Thanks Emma - hopefully it is just something that needs a tweak (she was like this about the same time last year and that was my saddle dropping at the front so she probably worried about hitting her withers when the fences got bigger and was generally feeling pinched). I had her back done a couple of months but if the saddle is not right that will probably cause pain in her back... I feel bad because she has not been 100% for a few weeks now but seemed happier with a prolite under her saddle! I am amazed we managed 53.5% in the dressage considering the heat, Pigeon not being right and the test being of elementary/medium level (leg yields and the final centre line in canter - yikes)! Fingers crossed our little jumping machines will be back on track very soon. Are you doing Aston le Walls at the end of August? xxx

    ok so my theory is, her striding was inaccurate on the combinations and she may have felt your shock at her refusals and took it as a sign not to jump, perhaps she was nervous? haha i don't know, I'm just guessing :D awesome horse though, you guys looks awesome together though :D

    • @anadin56
      @anadin56  10 лет назад

      Definitely got the stridings off... I think she was lacking some confidence because her saddle was uncomfortable so she wasn't forward enough into the doubles so we landed too close to the first fence to make the striding to the second (if that makes sense). We discovered she has equine cushings disease so that was why she was so flat abs lacking energy. She has a bit too much energy now she is on medication ;-)
