Great review as always, Aaron. Himalaya & Silver Mountain Water are on my Creed re-buy list. Killed bottles of them early in my scent journey 10yrs ago & they're so good at what they're meant to be. Spice & Wood, Royal Oud, Virgin Island Water & Original Santal would be my Creed "must haves". Always elegant, beautiful, opulent, etc. Right when I think I'm bored with Creed I wear them again & am always impressed, yet again!
Yes, I read the book Ghost Perfumer. The history that Olivier Creed has presented for the company is a complete fabrication. It's amazing that this has gone on for so long and that it took this long for anyone to expose it. Olivier Creed has a great nose and Creed does produce excellent fragrances, but Olivier Creed's lack of character surpasses all of his success in my opinion. His unwillingness to fairly compensate Pierre Bourdon, as he told him he would (allegedly), after profiting as much as he has from Bourdon's creativity and talent, is disgraceful.
You sold me on this book. This information is a bit shocking to me. Mr. Bourdon is more than likely the man behind my all time favorite scent (SMW). Thanks for the comment. I now have a perfumer to follow. It's a relief since Creed has been arrogantly out of touch with their market for some time.
@@joeyc8622 Read what I wrote more closely, I said that Creed makes excellent fragrances. I have four Creed fragrances, two of which are among my top five favorites in my collection. If you want to give Olivier Creed a pass for his professional ethics, thats fine. I choose not to.
The fact that Creed was bought by a huge cosmetic group I particularly think it is disappointing because they are going more in "mainstream" directions and they reformulate the perfumery in the weaker way, also because of the ingredients' cost. I enjoyed Himalaya, but I suppose it also became reformulated nowadays. I will try new formula once again. Great professional informative review, thanks Aaron.
I realize it's less popular in the Creed line, but it is one of my personal favorites from Creed. The opening just invigorates my senses. I use it in Spring and early summer seasons, and believe it or not, it is my go-to when skiing here in Colorado in the winter. Its title just fits for the mountain situation. (Much like VIW works in a beach situation, Erolfa in a boating situation, etc.) I also like to layer it with Molecule 01.
I bought an inspired version of this from The Essence Vault, I paid £40 for 100ml bottle and it smells exactly like the genuine product. You're quite right, some of these designer/niche brands are waaay off in terms of their pricing. It's quite alarming to be honest.
As far as creed’s quality is concerned after the buyout. I believe it’s already going downhill with the more popular fragrances like aventus, green Irish tweed, silver moon water. They just don’t last as long as they used to simple as that. I did read the book you’re referring to and it’s good, ultimately I think it’s funny how oliver creed created the story about his family making perfumes for royalty and such but the most important thing is that the product was good. And nowadays it’s just not worth it because of the quality reduction and price per ml increase. I don’t think they’ve come up with anything special since they got bought out by Blackrock
I absolutely love Himalaya. I am lucky enough to own 2X 2013 120mls and 3X 2016 75ml bottles. They have alot more depth and last forever on me albeit a skin scent after a few hours. Have tried the current Himalaya and sadly was underwhelmed. Creed quality will continue downward but I'm stocked with a ton of older bottles 👌
I go somewhat heavy with it and spray clothes and I don’t have any problems with performance. Granted my bottle is a 2016 and I truly haven’t smelled any other more recent formulations, so I don’t know if that would be a difference. Another enjoyable review. Great work ATH!

The service or products quality tend to drop when taken away from the hands of the creator. Different perspectives, the artist puts value on what the product conveys, the conglomerate puts value on profit. My humble opinion.
Another point from the book is that it describes how Aventus was based on an alicyclic musk from the 1990's which was originally a captive molecule, but it doesn't give the name of the musk nor who originally had exclusive access to it and what it was used in.
Creed has 3 great fragrances and this is one of them, other 2 are aventus and aventus cologne, best to decant this fragrance into a more modest sprayer as its very overpowering, i agree with you that creeds prices should be halved, lui v also

Between reading the book and Creed being bought out, I'm completely done with Creed. Their history is based on lies, their prices are absurd, and their reformulations have been ridiculous. It was already starting to be noticeable before the buyout. Now, their fragrances will be watered down as it always happens any time a brand is bought up by a Shiseido, L' Oreal, or whoever. To clarify: I say "were/are" because I can't say with certainty they've all been watered down. Thank you for another great review, Aaron. Always a pleasure!
I tried this fragrance and it smells good but does'nt have the same wow factor as as millesime imperial or silver mountain water but the latter don't have the longevity of the himalaya which is a shame. Erolfa, virgin island water, original santal, royal water are all amazing also 👍
They were known for artisanal creations that were driven by passion of the craft rather than sales figures. I think after the buyout, the latter is the priority. I hope you stay as your own company Aaron, staying at the helm of your creations and the company you built from the ground up. I love how other houses pale in comparison to the longevity of your creations; i.e. Notorious.

I've read the book, and it's crazy how lies can go unchecked in this industry. Daylight robbery enabled by perfumers not knowing their worth. Anyway, a review on Creed's brand new feminine "Wind Flowers" would be super interesting! It was apparently in development for 5 years, but has the most generic note listing ever. Almost fell asleep reading it. Gives the impression that zero risks were taken and mass-appeal was their only focus. Maybe it still smells great!
@@jackc3899 Considering you're watching a perfumer review a niche fragrance, absolutely! Very interesting insight into the usually secret world of perfumery
I heard somewhere that there's a debate whether Creed was the first royal fragrance. Would you happen to know? Here in the US, Creed isn't as mainstream as in the UK.
I’d be interested to see you try perfumes that fall on the side of not so safe or legal. Do they smell just as good, are they usually unpopular cheap knockoffs, or are there some amazing smelling not so safe perfumes. 🤔🤷♀️
Yes I've read that book. Very interesting insight into the whole perfume industry, of course the perfumers were never really the actual Creed family and their history is all fabricated but they did at least use the best ingredients. I won't buy Creed though I just don't actually like their house style. Their green notes are too vegetal, for example.
This stuff is okay but staggeringly expensive. However, if you take out a second mortgage and combine with Erolfa the result is much greater than the sum of its parts.
Aaron, what's your opinion about the ban on usage of Lilial? Some of my fave perfume has been reformulated cause of the usage of Lilial and I find that there's no projection anymore, i.e. PDM Layton. Do you use it in your work? Cause I loved Oxytocin from your line.
I always had an idea that Creed was never what they claimed to be. I did read the book and I wasn't surprised. I'm actually more excited about who actually created my favorites of the brand. I love a lot of your fragrances as well. I wish the Crreds were a little longer lasting.
I prefer XS ( PR) , wich is the OG of the smell and it's better ( besides the price) ,, now I have the 2018 version and it's surprisingly identical to my old 1994 edition .
The new formula of XS (new bottles) worth it ? Because I was a huge fan of the original 1994 XS PR. I’m thinking for real in Himalaya. Any suggestions? Thanks 🙏🏻
Can it get any weaker though? I’m hoping the scents are restored to their former glory or at least Parfum versions made to give these all some staying power.
Does this perform better than silver mountain water please anyone? I get about 3 hours performance from silver mountain water lol beautiful smell but over £200 and 3 hours totally nothing there at the 4th hour that ain't good
Aaron i ordered onyx extreme and tabac. 10 ml. I m from Greece and they wanted 100 eurow more...i send them back...I m so sad...I cant spend all that money 135+100 because i m unemployed. I m so sad....
Wouldn’t surprise me if this big conglomerate or whoever bought Creed - of course keeps the “heritage/OG” line for the same prices but come out with a much less expensive and more affordable line of fragrances and get into more storefronts. Unless there is some language in the buyout preventing them doing whatever the hell they wanted to with the brand, then I just that as a way to get investors’ money back quickly - and doing that by offering new products and lower prices and getting in front of as many eyeballs as possible while capitalizing on the Brand name.
I've never tried a Creed fragrance because, from the notes, they seem overpriced and the stories of inconsistency in Aventus batches has always put me off the brand. Maybe if they'd done done samples and 10ml's , like you, then I would've tried thing, really liked them and bought bottles. As for the sellout I expect it'll be a bad thing. A question for you though, do you do samples of Onyx Extreme and Raw Cherry and are the Maverick and legend Samples from the new higher concentration?
A little confused on the gunpowder note you’re mentioning. Just not sure if it was an actual accord you saw listed or if it’s simply what your nose detects it as.
If I lived in the EU (or UK) perhaps I would view Creed differently but in the U.S the price of Creed is outrageous. In regard to the unmasking book; One would have been ridiculously naive to think that the Creed family actually composed the fragrances themselves. Obviously they were using "ghost perfumers". I do like some Creed fragrances, primarily Bois du Portugal and Royal Oud but I have no special affection for the Creed brand and honestly have more of a negative opinion.
So i just got patchouli noir in and i mean holy fucking shit, first of all it lasts forever but the smell is unreal its totally unique theres creaminess from chocolate and tonka, theres a but of bite from that ginger and the patchouli gives it a deep earthy vibe its unfuckin real, it was my first 100% not my last, just total class. i need the opposite of that one now to wear more for a daytime casual so what else u recommend 🧐
just recieved the book today cant wait to read it , himalaya for me its a bit boring nothing special its a good scent but for that money i want a bit more special
It's obvious that the brand has a keen eye/nose for introducing good scents and have been abnormally influential within the industry. They have many scents that I'm rather fond of. What startled me the most was how they were able to turn their obvious lack of quality control of "batch variation" into a marketing gimmick...and how the customer base tolerates it. Additionally, it's rather insulting that customers will tolerate the constant watering down of their products and the skyrocketing costs of it. As for the buyout, I think you'll continue to see the quality of Creed decrease as the prices will go up. You'll probably see an ever increasingly more generic "designer scent" to them.
Creed is one of the brands that inspires fanaticism in their most loyal fans. Brands like Apple, Tesla, or Sony/Xbox where supporters feel connected and would fall on the sword to defend the brands honor.

Very interesting insight into the whole perfume industry, of course the perfumers were never really the actual Creed family and their history is all fabricated but they did at least use the best ingredients. I won't buy Creed though I just don't actually like their house style. Their green notes are too vegetal, for example.
Please make Boss Bastard available in Japan as well
My favorite Creed. Period.
I actually love this fragrance, reminds me of your typical men's body wash that leaves a cooling sensation, very basic smell, but basic done well.
First there was Jeremy and now there is Aaron
I have a 75ml bottle of this and it performs pretty well. Definitely much stronger than the reformulated versions
Thanks 🙏🏻
please review creed milisime imperial and xerjoff 40 knots
Can it get any weaker though? I’m hoping the scents are restored to their former glory or at least Parfum versions made to give these all some staying power.
I enjoy Himalaya and have gotten many compliments.
Do you have good compliments from girls ?
Please please do more parfums de marly for woman videos
Does this perform better than silver mountain water please anyone? I get about 3 hours performance from silver mountain water lol beautiful smell but over £200 and 3 hours totally nothing there at the 4th hour that ain't good
Do I smell pepper?? I feel like it's overpowering.
Totally agree with this. It's quite nice, but twice the price it should be.
Smells nice - lasts about 15 mins on skin.
You’re not exaggerating either
Can you suggest a Creed fragrance for summer?
Your hair looks super black, suits you well!!
Honestly my favorite from Creed and it's soo versatile. Zaharoff Royal X is just as good or better IMHO.
Aaron, thank you for your short and honest reviews BTW. Can't stand people that drag out reviews 15-30min long...
A little confused on the gunpowder note you’re mentioning. Just not sure if it was an actual accord you saw listed or if it’s simply what your nose detects it as.
Yeah, a little confused on that one myself. I went to to the Creed website and “gunpowder” is not listed as I knew.
This is my favourite creed
If I lived in the EU (or UK) perhaps I would view Creed differently but in the U.S the price of Creed is outrageous.
In regard to the unmasking book;
One would have been ridiculously naive to think that the Creed family actually composed the fragrances themselves.
I have GIT and aventus I like both but I’m much more an amouage/pdm kinda guy
Himalaya is one of the better creeds for me. Especially older bottles. Basically just Paco Rabanne XS in a nicer format mind you
I had this brand but like this perfume
just recieved the book today cant wait to read it , himalaya for me its a bit boring nothing special its a good scent but for that money i want a bit more special
one of Robbie Williams Signature scent
very similar to Paco XS, but better
