This song makes me miss Cody’s grandma for them.
Very much so!
Same
Same
...
So hard.
"Boys be good now"
True words from all our grandmas...
truth
Amen to that, and our granny's/great grandma
This line made me bawl.
That & “If ya need me, y’all know where I’m at”
I want to like this so bad buts it's at 420 likes and I just cant fuck with the rhythm.
I didn't even know this lady and someones cutting onions in here.
H
I’m not crying you’re crying
Same here
@@Grassroots_Hegemon yeah me either. me: wipes tear.
Calvin Luchs i think its just raining in here
you can honestly hear and feel the pain and emotion in his voice, it’s gets me everytime
Yea I am with you on that. To me this is his best written song, so relatable.
every single time
It.breaks me at 51yrs
No one artist ever makes me cry, but his voice somehow gets me every time
dude thats so true
Kinda wierd....cause im cryin and smilin at same time...my mom passed away a couple yrs ago..her name is virgie..first time ive heard this song...momma this ones for u. Love and miss u badly...
Rip man, I’m sorry for your loss
Hope you're doing well buddy
My mom passed away about 4 years ago my prayers go out to ya brother. Loosing family is a tough one. Keep ya head up things get better with time
Bearing that pain with you brother Matthew
I hope you are well.
Same here Matthew Morris. I’m glad I’m not the only one.
My grandma's name was Virginia and we called her Gramma Virgie. She passed away while I was in the ICU following open heart surgery. I was 17 and the only thing I could think or talk about back then was being a cattle rancher. She'd smile and tell me about granddad and his big herd.
Well, I've got my herd now and I'm raising show cattle on the farm she and granddad built together.
I must not have grieved properly when she passed because this came on one day while clipping for a show and I broke down sobbing in front of the college kids I have working for me. It was so cathartic.
Idk why I'm telling a bunch of strangers but this feels good too.
Tyler may be a wild mountain man, but he's a good boy.
Bless your heart. Your Granddad and Gramma are proud.
I dont think you might not have grieved properly. I dont know you though. Its probably just love.
Beautiful story!
No need to apologize my Brother!
Your grandmother’s is still Virginia. Thank you sharing and a big hug.
My grandmother passed away yesterday,
“I can see her up in glory
I can see her through the pines.”
"saying "boys, be good"..."
I listen to this song as loud as I can with tears in my eyes because its that damn beautiful. God bless everyone's Grandma.
I gave up on country music. But you sir, have given me hope.
Respect.
thats not country music , that is real lyrics, real voice and soul.....New country music sucks!
@@alyasinski2021 Chris Stapleton is the Savior
Me 2.
Stapleton is amazing. Broken halos, millionaire are my two favs. But he aint got shit on this man. Just a guitar and a soul on display. Rest in peace codys grandma.
chris daniels apples and oranges. Both can be flawless simultaneously... like ladies... a 10 is a 10 my dude hahahah
Everytime he said “can’t you see her up there cody?” It hits me. Proud kentucky boy here, can’t help but think about my mawmaw when I hear this.
I'm reading Hillbilly Elegy and it mentions how "holler" people called their grandparents Mamaw and Papaw only there. But Mamaw and Papaw was used in Texas too. Country people-ranchers. Never be the likes of them again.
@@tcm6756 not just Texas and mountain people. I think just country people in general. I'm from Mississippi and lots of people call their grandparents maw maw and paw paw. That's what we called my grandparents.
@@chrisstewart8832 Great point. Love to visit Mississippi some time. Go down to the Crossroads!
I have been overseas for 6 years almost 7 now. I lost my grandma and grandpa. They were KY miners and farmers. I’m a KY boy. When he hits the last verse and talks about seeing her in the pines I cry - anytime, every time. Good bless US we’re so divided. If we could all listen to this and forget politics- snowflakes and boomers and just remember true love me might be able to save our nation
That's exactly what I used to call my grandma. MAWMAW, may you RIP
This man stumbled over a couple of words in the improvised story lead up of this song and then delivers maybe one of the best live performances of a beautiful song.
it aint improvised - he was nervous. makes the song that much better
@@chaisebruh boi improvised means not planned, he didnt plan what he was gonna say he improvised the intro
If you see him live you would understand the intro. He doesn’t talk much and wants to get to the music without being bothered. One of the best shows I’ve seen.
Musicians let songs speak for them
I was born and raised in Pikeville , KY. My Mamaw was from Virgie. She was an amazing woman. Died and buried right there on Island Creek. Miss her every day.
I can’t stop listening to everything that bares your name Tyler Childers. You’re an incredible musician and I thank the good Lord I stumbled upon your music!
kydarlin06 he's incredible everything he sings.
You got that right! He's so Damn good!
kydarlin06 same
I came across him a few weeks ago, and it's all I've listened too.
@@sammyevans3455 I'm a week in, and man, this guy is pure talent! Big fan!!
Can't you see her up there, Cody? Damn, gutshot.
Exactly what I thought
Ain't that the truth
I was only introduced to this song and Tyler a few days ago. Couldn’t agree with you more. Lump in my throat the first time hearing it!
Donald Reilly I hope you and your brothers are doing good, god bless you and your grandma
That's the line that got me, too. Sometimes it's Vergie that brings tears to my eyes....but, at other times, it's Cody. Everyone needs a Cody. I lost my 3 best friends within a few short years. Yes, my three best friends. We had been inseparable. When I hear Tyler mention his best friends, it rips memories from my chest and I wish I had a time machine. Everyone needs a Cody.
As a Cody whose Granny just died, along with every single other thing in this song making sense in our rural life, this hurts and helps.
Same for me man
My mountain beauty was born in 1914 she raised 9 boys who were all saints in her eye & God called my mountain beauty in 1995 my heart still aches over the loss of my/our mountain beauty rip lovely lady
Wow. This song caught me off guard. Gonna need a minute.
Wow!! Heard this on Pandora and was floored. It's like a video plays as you listen to the song.. Well at least in MY mind.
Bigsurjay yup
I know the feelz
Every time.
@@alisamuni3316 thats what makes him so amazing all of his music tells a beautiful picture.
Cried 3x in the last 24 hrs due to this song. G-ma aint even dead yet, just dreading the day. Thank you for the induced appreciation of her
Oof I called my grandma "g-ma" this hurts this hurts alot. I love u g-ma
Same here shows a different type of appreciation
Love and appreciate her while you can brother, miss my grandmother(s) everyday. It’s a special relationship!
Spend as much time as you can with her brother. I decided to not go to the hospital that week. I've never regretted anything more.
I am a manager in aged care and I saw all my beautiful ladies I care for when I hear this. I am a blubbering mess..
Man this and a joint have got me crying like a baby.....I miss my Grandma.
I feel this so hard. She was my momma
Me too brother!
My sons turned me onto this after my lovely wife of 43years and 10months passed in April of 2021. They all said this described her to a t. She always said it's ok their just boys let them be. God how I miss her. This brings tears everytime I listen, but your song gives peace . May God bless you Tyler. Your music is all spot on. Much needed for these times. REALLY beautiful down home music, the way it should be!
I'm so incredibly sorry for your loss
Sorry for your loss, may God bless you and your family. ❤
I’m so sorry you lost your Soulmate.
I love you sir
It's like this song was written for me and my brothers. We all played this song yesterday and no one had dry eyes. We were raised by a mountain beauty for sure, born in 1921. She seen us all as saints but the only saint was & still is her... great song!
Copper Head a beautiful tribute to your mountain beauty.
Right on brother sorry for yalls loss my mom's a mountain beauty so was my grandma so this hits home #onelove
This song kills me for the exact same reason man.
One becomes a saint and is rarely born one. I’m sorry for your loss.
Man..that has to be hard one to play for him. That hits a heartstring
I cried the 1st time I heard it
Josh P I cry every time I hear it it reminds me of my grandma 😭
I can only imagine when his buddy heard this song for the first time.
My grandmother was named Virgie and she was a beautiful Appalachian woman who raised me as a son. This song hits home.
that’s beautiful. i hope you find healing in music. I sure have and Tyler Childers is incredibly talented
beautiful. im very sorry for your loss, i second the above comment. God bless you reader, stay strong; Jesus is coming to take us home
It sucks I can only hit the like button once..... so good
You can hit it twice :)
(Joke I really like this song only press it once)
Amen brother
Your reply made me cry. I had a special one as well. Lost her at 16,I’m an old man now and still gladly welcome every sweet thought I have of her.
Damn, that last chorus really hits. Cant imagine how hard this song is for him and his buddies.
I would love to hear the story about their initial reaction to this song. I’m sure he did it acoustic for them and i’m sure they cried way more than I did my first time listening.
I’m at work In the break room and I had to catch a tear when he said “Can’t you see her up there Cody”! This hit hardddddd. I have my Gma name on my right arm. And every time I take a sip of whiskey, it’s like she’s saying “boy...I know you better than this”.
I'll raise a glass to your grandma tonight, and all the strong ladies who raised us heathens.
"to lay to rest this mountain beauty" The melody and delivery of this line makes the song as far as I'm concerned.
I’m a Chicano from the central coast of California, born and raised.....I wasn’t planning on crying today.
"Yeah, I reckon we were heathens,
But in her eyes we were saints."
I don't always cry at this song. But, when I do...
My brother Cody and I lost our mom 5 years ago. She’s from Kentucky and we grew up in a town called Peytonsville, Tn. We cried so hard hearing this song today. It’s so similar to our story too. Thank you so much for sharing this song w the world and hope your friend’s grandma and our mom have found each other looking down on their Codys
I know its 7 years old bit it still hits hard to this day he knows how to hit the heart strings and i love it
Goddamn his voice and this song. He deserves all the awards. Every goddamn one.
Damn right!
@CatDayAfternoon sure do like putting GOD name in vain dont you. He died for your sins and you want to do that. Shame on you.
I lost my mom a couple years ago when I was 19. She owns a music school. She was in the corner of every recording session and lesson. I miss her so much. I can never make it through this song just yet.
My grandboy sent me this, I'm his mountain granny.
❤
One can not simply listen to this song without crying. I've heard it hundreds of times.. and it's still almost instant tears.
We all owe this Mountain Beauty for giving Tyler and his friends a place they felt comfortable being themselves.
Tonight I’m listening to sad music reliving the “Glory days” in my mind with the aid of some of my favorite bourbon. I’m a combat vet that’s lost a lot of good ol’ buddies. This song hit and my German Sheppard jumped up next to me on the couch because I think he knows what this song does to me. So here’s to the folks that aren’t with me anymore, and to that goofy German Shepherd that keeps me level these days. Miss em and I guarantee that I’ll miss this old dog when he’s gone. Stay blessed friends!
🙏🏻♥️
Thank you for sharing, and thank you for your service. ❤🩹
never alone brother
He is such a good singer/songwriter that I think his guitar work is kind of overlooked. He plays pretty damn precise.
My name is Cody. Lost my aunt and grandmother in the same year a few years back. Grandpa joined them a few months ago. I still catch little glimpses of them from time to time. Work and life have been hard lately. But then I heard this song for the first time today it came on a completely random country station. My cousins, who my aunt called "the boys" and I would hang out near my aunt's pond a lot, an area that we all called "the salt flats." Some of my best memories were there or at my grandmother's house that we all filled. When I heard the line "can't you see her up there Cody?" I completely broke down. This song means so much to me. A sign from them. Thank you
Such a personal song..... even calls his buddy’s name in it .... I listen to this at least once a day 👍
I just found Tyler Childers.. and i cant stop listening.....2019
Turkeyy Man Ditto
Same here!
Same
Same, it’s been great so far
just asking myself why it took so long..
This is one of those songs you listen to twice because it didn't cut you deep enough the first time
or 2x, or 3x... etc
Truth.
I know what youre saying there . And mine for me is All Choked Up Again by Ryan Bingham. The album is Junky Star
Word
fr i wasn’t ready
"Boys be good"
This song reminds me of my grandma. Even was from west virginia
I'm a damn born and bred yankee. Grew up to rap music and rock n roll, and this song gives me chills. Good stuff.
My son just dedicated this song to this me, and I've never listened to country music before...I cried. Then I cried some more. I thought all those "heathens" had forgotten me...
I have no words for how good this is
Love this song! My favorite 💙💙💙💙💙
I work in aged care and see so many beautiful souls daily. This is almost my fav song !!!captures the beauty perfectly
This is the purest form of music man
The imperfections in his voice make's it perfect!
Man that was beautiful. I could see her sitting there listening to them play.
This is so heartfelt and amazing Im missing my mother and she's only about 10 foot away from me now fast asleep lol. What a song.
Show all the love to that woman before she's no longer here on earth ❤
Back before these
calloused hands did all this work
We used to sit up at the flats
Acting like we'd live forever
Getting high and skipping class
I reckon we were heathens
But in her eyes we were saints
Now you're calling all the boys home
As heavens angels carry her away
I will follow you to Virgie
Although it hurts me so
To lay to rest this mountain beauty
That the Lord's called home
Can't you see her up in glory
I can see her through the pines
Back when all us boys were trying
To make sense of all these strings
I can see her in the corner
Singing along to all our crazy dreams
I will follow you to Virgie
Although it hurts me so
To lay to rest this mountain beauty
That the Lord's called home
Can't you see her up in glory
I can see her through the pines
I will follow you to Virgie
Although it hurts me so
To lay to rest this mountain beauty
That the Lord's called home
Can't you see her up there, Cody?
I can see her through the pines
Saying boys be good
*I will follow you to virgie cause that's what us boys are for,
To help you out when you get weary, and you can't go no more,
Can't you see her up there cody.....
I got your back, fellow quality music enjoyer! Lol 😉
Beautiful writing really felt this one, I can see her through the pines ❤️🏔
Having the name Cody and being from Virgie KY in Pikeville I get chills when he sings it
Your opinion doesn't matter your profile picture is clout Bart.
Holy smokes!! Are you kidding!? How have I gone this long without this voice!?
Right ? I have been listening to him for 5 years and I felt I was late on something.... Truly a talented soul..
I had them play FM2V at my Mom's funeral, play this and it takes you places you been that you won't forget
I love all of Tyler's music but this one in particular makes me miss all of my Grandmas so much.
An amazing tribute by an amazing singer/songwriter. The music industry is lucky to have Tyler Childers in its midst.
Steve Paradiso Want everyone to hear this, to hear him. I feel bad for anyone who hasn't.
what do you mean
I just recently lost my grandma, and i could swear to god tyler wrote this song for me
I know Cody’s grandma is smiling down on all of them boys, seeing what they accomplished. ❤️
Mr. Can you make folks cry when you play and sing, have you paid your dues, can you moan the blues, can you bend them guitar strings......... Yes, yes he can. The true measure of genuine God given talent is evident if people are moved by your passion, if you can touch their hearts deep down inside , then you have it, if your music doesn't have any effect on them emotionally, then you don't. Tyler has it.
We called my grandma Virgie, she passed away of cancer last year. Everyone who met her said she was a saint and didn’t understand how a person could be so pure and kind. Currently balling. Thank you for writing this song.
It took 14yrs to find the right song for when I think about my grandma. I hope Tyler doesn’t slow down. He’s got the best voice out there right now and I LOVE the way he writes his shit. The way he describes shit just... I don’t know man but this motherfucker has got it. Whatever it is. Cheers
I get emotional over this song. It makes me think of my departed Mother. I miss my mother!
We all have people we lose over time. And some are sweet like Cody’s grandma and some run down a different path, but both hurt the exact same. I hope you guys can all find your Virgie and relate. I can see them up in glory every day
My grandmother was born in 1940 and she’s a literal angel on earth. I won’t be able to handle the day she passes. What a song, what a man, what a voice. Such an amazing song and great performance! Blessed to be able to hear it!
I make it to “boys be good” before I’m brought to tears makes me think of my grandma
I'm good till he says "Can you see her up there Cody?" Then I lose it.
I'm good until he says "Can't you see her up there Cody?" Then I lose it.
I've heard it enough that can make it all the way to "help ya out when you get weary".
He paints such a Beautiful picture with his music. Best storyteller in music, in my opinion.
I don’t think I’ve ever cried so hard for someone I didn’t know ❤
well not a dry eye here to be had
What a beautiful song
That's a hard song to listen to cant imagine being the one to play it, damn this hits hard
I am addicted to Tyler Childers' voice and sound, as a whole. AMAZING artist!
Absolutely brilliant powerful song. I could feel the love in this song. Sorry for your loss, wonderful tribute. Thanks for sharing
6 years ago... where the hell have i been. Been listening to Childers for abotu 4 months his music has changed my life & the way I look at music.
I literally have no words.....if this dont hit you in the feels, well, you must not have any. This young man has so much going on for him, but God Damn that voice is off the chain. His and Stapletons are hands down the best voices that ive heard in my 39 years on this earth.....Kentucky is owning the music scene right now with Tyler, Chris stapleton, and Sturgill Simpson
Agreed!
I couldn’t agree more. I am addicted
I have never had music give me that feeling u r speaking of, until now. Thank you Tyler. You are a genius
Agreed man. If you don't feel this one you have no soul
Kentucky has owned it for decades
My grandpa recently passed and I’ve listened to/sang along to this almost everyday since. I sing it with everything I have, sobbing, while I think of him. Thank you Tyler❤️ your music is a blessing, it’s really helped me deal with this. I loved my grandpa so much, I miss him so much
This song reminds me of my dads. They both died in 2009, six weeks apart, after being together over 30 years. I miss them so much!
God this is beautiful man. I love mamaw's, I miss my mamaw. I can imagine this woman and y'all brothers. Amazing song brother, genuine majick, genuine art.
This guy is so fuckin talented. I can't get enough
This was one of my fraternity brothers favorite songs. Unfortunately, He left this world last night at 11pm. I can relate to "calling all the boys home" because of losing a loved one. Fly High RMH
I have 2 granny's named Virginia. This song pulls tears all the time. Bitter sweet. Virginia Terry is one, you may have heard of her or not, beautiful song.
You know that feeling you get when you FINALLY get to hear your favorite musician singing LIVE, and you realize with a sinking heart that they can't actually play or sing...this is the exact opposite of that.
Brother your gonna go far most unique voice I’ve ever heard..
In my opinion. Its all about painting the picture Tyler's a master of art
This song secured him a spot as a country music great idgaf what anyone has to say otherwise
May Cody’s grandmother rest in piece. What a great friend, and song. Well played
My Great-Grandma Eva was a real "mountain beauty." Thanks for this song, Tyler.
My grandma Eva was a Mississippi beauty, full of piss and vinegar, with a wicked sense of dry humor and a heart of gold so big, idk how it fit in her chest. I was only 11 when she died, but she managed to pack so many good memories into those short years, I've missed her sorely for the rest of my life. I can still smell her melt-in-your-mouth fried chicken, lol, spoiled me for any other's, just tastes like greasy dirt compared to hers. She played piano and loved to sing, teaching me all the old hymns she loved so dearly. Grandparents are special people, one set of mine had died before I was born, so Nan-naw was my one and only. I believe I'll see her again someday, and all the time apart will fade away. She won't be old or sick, but I'll still know her sweet face, those twinkling blue eyes. It's so hard to lose someone you love so much, but I'm thankful for the time we had, she taught me so much, loved me so much, and that is worth the pain.
He really is at his Best here!!!
reminds me so much of my mom ...she was a wonderful grandmother to my kids and their friends
This song reminds me of my grandma that is buried on Rose Hill Cemetery in Ashland Kentucky. RIP MAMA. I'LL SEE YOU AGAIN ONE DAY. LOVE YOU
Amazing lyrics. This guy deserves to have the fame. I'm glad sturgill found him. This song resonates with almost everybody. If you can listen to this and not get a chill, or worst a thumbs down . You are not human, or have never loved anyone before.
I remember the first time I introduced this young man on stage , he was doing cover songs mostly Bob Dylan stuff and then he done a original song. I knew that he had all the ability and just needed the break to make it. So proud to say I know him.
Don't see many Frisbys, that's my dad's name man
Will you tell I said hello for me....I play this over and over.....my grandmother was Virginia
This was one of my favorite songs of his before my grama passed, once the lord called her home the song became more than just a song to me.
I'm a grown man and this song brings me to tears. Could you imagine the way Cody felt the first time he heard it?
some friends of mine from Alabama put me on to Mr. Childers. I am forever grateful. What a power song. RIP Grandma
This is just brilliant. Tyler more than any other exemplifies true country music. And takes it to places that it has never really been before.
Baby screaming? Put this angel on.. within 30 seconds my baby boy relaxes. Right now he looks so deep in thought, I hope he ends up like this guy, an absolute sweetie
This is magic. We are so lucky. Thank you.
Miss you Mom. You're my "factory" beauty. The Lord took you on to Glory. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Still here in 2023 missing my mama. She worked so hard and I didn't understand. I miss you mom. Wish I could call you, stop by and visit. I love you.
This gets me right In the heart. Tyler Childers is phenomenal.
You can feel the emotion. Such a phenomenal song, and performed live in one take. Impressive.
My best friend for the past 20 years just passed away (drowned) on the Monday after the 4th of July, I spent that weekend with him and I came back home Sunday evening. He had left us by 8pm on Monday. I know this song is about Cody's gram but it definitely reminds me of me and my buddy growing up and raising hell as thinking we're immortal 😢 RIP Joe Gordon. Forever my best buddy. I love you homie 😢
