Patrick Star it’s the opening song to the musical bombshell (the fictional musical that the tv show is based around) and it’s about marilynn Monroe. The two women are up for the lead roll of Marilyn and they’re each taking turns singing the song because the writers don’t know who to cast
Based on James Lapine's book Putting It Together, Sondheim did the exact opposite. He didn't write any songs until the characters and basic plot was near complete because he argued that the songs would come naturally that way.
Fade in on a girl With a hunger for fame And a face and a name to remember. The past fades away Because as of this day Norma Jean's gone, She's moving on. Her smile and your fantasies Play a duet That will make you forget Where you are. The music starts playing It's the beat of her heart saying, "Let me be your star." Flash back to a girl With a song in her heart As she's waiting to start the adventure. The fire and drive That make dreams come alive, They fill her soul. She's in control. The drama, the laughter, The tears just like pearls. Well, they're all in this girl's repertoire. It's all for the taking, And it's magic we'll be making. Let me be your star. I'll just have to forget the hurt that came before, Forget what used to be. The past is on the cutting room floor, The future is here with me. Choose me! Fade up on a star With it all in her sights All the love and the lights That surround her. Someday she’ll think twice Of the dues and the price She’ll have to pay She’ll have to pay But not today But not today Then she’ll do all she can For the love of one man And for millions who look from afar. And what you’ve been needing Is all here and my heart’s bleeding. Let me be your star!
I always thought they (the producers within the show) should have split the role. Marilyn has that duality. So Karen plays Norma Jean and Ivy plays Marilyn and they interact with each other as facets of her personality trade places as her confidence ebbs and flows.
azjmsxhn Yes, it’s called belting. And that doesn’t change the fact that she is vocally leagues above Karen, ESPECIALLY since Ivy’s voice is better suited to a Broadway musical that’s performed live in front of roughly 1,100 people eight times a week.
Because of this clip I had to rewatch the whole series
I am too!
I don’t have time to watch . Hahahah
Can you please tell me what this song is about??

Megan has such a powerful voice. I loved it
“You can’t build a musical by just writing songs”
Lin Manuel Miranda is typing....
Ha

"You can't build a musical by just writing songs"
Some musicals attempt doing this anyways...
Meghan hilty was my first Glinda in 2008, and my love for her work has only grown with time
Even though Megan is not my first Glinda but she is my favourite and Eden Espinosa is my favourite Elphaba💚
Fade in on a girl
With a hunger for fame
And a face and a name to remember.
The past fades away
Because as of this day
Norma Jean's gone,
She's moving on.
Her smile and your fantasies
Play a duet
That will make you forget
Where you are.
The music starts playing
It's the beat of her heart saying,
"Let me be your star."
Flash back to a girl
With a song in her heart
As she's waiting to start the adventure.
The fire and drive
That make dreams come alive,
They fill her soul.
She's in control.
The drama, the laughter,
The tears just like pearls.
Well, they're all in this girl's repertoire.
It's all for the taking,
And it's magic we'll be making.
Let me be your star.
I'll just have to forget the hurt that came before,
Forget what used to be.
The past is on the cutting room floor,
The future is here with me.
Choose me!
Fade up on a star

All the love and the lights
That surround her.
Someday she’ll think twice
Of the dues and the price
She’ll have to pay
She’ll have to pay
But not today
But not today
Then she’ll do all she can
For the love of one man
And for millions who look from afar.
And what you’ve been needing
Is all here and my heart’s bleeding.
Let me be your star!
Thank you for sharing the lyrics for us ;-)
Wouldn’t you love to see the musical Bombshell? I wish it really existed. I wish Smash would come back. I loved that show.

Good news
I’m doing research for my dance acro solo that I’m doing to this song!!! Love it!!
This concept and a lot of what was delivered was so good. The writing didn’t ultimately keep up and it’s so sad
Had I directed the musical, it would've never premiered because I could've never decided who should play Marilyn.
SAME!!!! I totally would have had the same problem!
TEAM IVY
YEAEEEAS
funnily enough the woman at 1:42 looks a lot like lauren baccall, who starred with marilyn in how to marry a millionaire
I always thought they (the producers within the show) should have split the role. Marilyn has that duality. So Karen plays Norma Jean and Ivy plays Marilyn and they interact with each other as facets of her personality trade places as her confidence ebbs and flows.
This series flopped because it tried to make us believe Katharine McPhee was a better Marilyn than Megan Hilty. Ridiculous.
To me, Megan radiated Marilyn from the very beginning.
They both were Marilyn. Very different versions.
Watching this for the first time and I’m screaming at my tv!!! Katherine doesn’t hold a candle to Megan!
Is anybody here bc of girls?
Ivy had the look, but Karen's voice was much more Marilyn
Except for the fact that Ivy was eons better than Karen in every department, including singing.
@@ShowtuneSampler ivy is just LOUD
azjmsxhn You’re allowed to have your own opinion, even if it’s 100% wrong.

NO IT ISNT HAHAHA
Am I the only who who thought Karen should’ve got the role as Marilyn🤔
I think so, yes.
me me me me me me!!
Me me!
I had forgotten how miscast Katherine McPhee was in this, and how bad her acting was.
awww i thought she was great!!!
