I always rated QNAPs hardware, but I've more recently been leaning towards Synology due to the fact that QNAP suffer from so many vulnerabilities, be them operating system related issues or issue within supported apps.
I've lost count of the amount of updates I've had to do for one vulnerability or another on my QNAPS over the years.
Yeah they're pretty swift to patch them, but I've still heard of some pretty bad turn outs online from users who's QNAP servers and files have been exploited.

I am very pleased with the new firmware in terms of system performance. But the most important thing is that when installing from scratch, they allowed the user to decide for himself what applications he needed. Another would be to remove iscsi and fiber, since not everyone needs it, it would be ideal. As for the interface, the advantage would be the ability to change the size of the desktop icons. Well, the note board would be better combined with notifications into one application. Thanks.

    Some very nice new features!
I will see if one of my spare QNAP's can be a beta 5 candidate as I'm not allowed beta's in our production-environment. (understandably)
I do wondering what protocol you would recommend/promote for QNAP-to-QNAP file-transfer please?
I used to use SMB (and File Station) but that does not seem to support long-file names & special characters. (anymore?)
Destination-file names got changed to 8.2 format and "hashed" (for example) to "TOY3H7~R.MP4"
Imagine TB's of data with no longer logical names, really disruptive for our work :(
I had contact QNAP Support who recommended not to use SMB and use HBS 3 Hybrid Backup Sync, but that also has some caveats back when I tested it..
Any recommendation & suggestions would be highly appreciated!

Would creatives (video editors) that do work from their NAS benefit from the HERO 5.0 update? This is day one of me using the 872XT

@@QNAPUK thank you....I'm glad my update failed today. Apparently it froze on 42% and I couldn't figure out why until I tried to risk it all when using terminal to manually update. It said "firmware edition" mismatched. Aside from that 872XT seems really nice just really A LOT to chew for a novice like myself. A few quirks like thunderbolt 3 ports not working out of the box on Monterrey & my M1 Mac. But T3 to 10GE adapter worked. Can't see any performance difference with NVME SSDs installed for some reason even when changing jumbo to 9000. I've been jumping in and out of your guides and a few others because before I start moving data over I want to be sure I'm on the best setup. Currently I'm at static volume on raid 5 for main 4x16TB ironwolf pro drives & raid 1 static for SSD cache read/write. Still don't understand the purpose of some things as my main goal is to have redundancy and be able to edit video (proxies at the very least on this machine). The good thing I've found as this is a lot more quieter than my Thunderbay from OWC.

I installed 5.0 BETA because of a Wireguard implementation but QVPN Service shows empty page.
It's kind of confusing to advertise Wireguard without the actual implementation.
I'll try to run it in Docker container for now.

Hi Craig. I installed the QuTS Hero Beta 5.0 which came out a few days ago (I'm not currently using the nas actively so I thought what the heck). The install in place worked well and everything seems fine, and zippier (h1688x). The only weirdness is when I try to launch Container Station, it just sits on the 'loading' holding page indefinitely. Any ideas about this? Is there a beta forum i can join? Thanks!

Same problem here. I didn't realize I had beta turned on and installed the update. Container Station is not loading (keeps loading forever). I had pi-hole running as a docker image which took care of my dns. Now had to fall back to dns of my router again. Created a support ticket for this, which they will look into with remote support this Friday.
But another bigger issue I'm experiencing after this upate is that I constantly keep losing internet connection. Somehow, after a day, the WAN IP it should get from my router is lost. I'm using a static IP for the NAS which is reserved in my ASUS router. I have to reboot the NAS once a day so it will get the WAN IP from the router again. This issue seems to occur just after I did the update to 5.0.0. Do you have this problem as well?

@@QNAPUK it’s all fixed now! A container station update came out a few days ago. The beta seems fine although it seems to like shutting down my Plex service due to memory issues. I’m sure it’ll iron out. (My device has 32GB btw)

@@MJSkavioke new container station update should fix your woes. I had pihole running too, so it was a bit annoying.

@@Dannington OK, I will try the new container station and see if that fixes the issues. I'm wondering if there is some conflict that my router is now doing the dns and maybe there is still something causing conflicts with the pi-hole dns (even though I uninstalled Container Station), which is causing the WAN IP to be lost.
I read in the known issues for the Beta release that Plex might not be working. So that's probably what you're running into. For me Plex is working though, but I have 80GB memory, so that's maybe the reason I'm not running into an OutOfMemory.

Hi, can non-admin user now use sftp for file transfer ? It's the fastest protocol (by far) for linux users

Nice new features but devastatingly disappointing from a visual appearance. Was expecting more UI wise from such a major update. Feels like we are still stuck in 2010. I don’t get it because it’s such an easy thing to implement…
Unfortunately competition is significantly ahead on this one.
Also was expecting much more development regarding Multimedia Systems, I feel like the current situation with photo station, cayin player, video station, QuMagie, console, cinema24, etc it’s a mess. QuMagie is a great software but it’s insanely slow (even with my 472XT) and inefficient (at least compared to competitors software) it’s a shame
