- Here's how I made a 6" (1/12th scale) 2nd Airborne Clone Trooper of the 212th Attack Battalion, using Bandai's Star Wars Clone Trooper model kit and a few extra cast and 3D printed bits.
The video covers building, painting, scratch building and weathering.

#StarWars #Bandai #CloneTrooper - Хобби
Watching this guy customize is like watching Bob Ross paint.
I need to start beating the devil out of it.
It really do be like that though
Probably one of the most badass clone trooper designs. Not like they aren't badass already, just the helmet with all the extra gear is just so great! Wonderful custom perfectly capturing the source material as always! cant wait to see what you make next.
Cheers man, yeah it's always been one of my favourite designs!
Airborne helmets are pretty neat. I much prefer the BARC helmets that are used, figure that'd be a nice step up for a model like this.
ARF resembles it
Nbnqw
He sounds a lot like the clones from episode three
I’m happy I’m not the only one that notices that he sounds just like a clone
So I've heard :p
what if he is...DUN DUN DUNNNNN but he really does lol
Its a 7th sky corp they was whit commander cody cause the 7th sky corp and the 212attack batallions was allied and they was on utapau._.
The tamora Morrison version of the clone voice
I love it, great job, I always knew this armor mostly as the Sniper armor from the (2005) Star Wars Battlefront 2 game
Cheers!
@@wafflelappen4749 yep, you played as the 501st legion
I'm glad you changed your mind on the straps. Very nice job.
Thanks! Yeah I think I went in with action figures in mind, where the material seems to outweigh the scale, but it just didn't look good.
“Not that I wear much of that myself”
Can confirm, never seen you in make up
Wow, this is a whole different figure now! 👍🏻
Yeah I love how modifiable they are!
after years of searching i think i finally found my hobby.
Nice!
Man... you are an absolut MASTER & an ARTIST! With your work you bring so much joy in my life! I love to watch your videos!
He looks awesome! But I recommend using ribbon for straps instead of tape.
It looks a lot better and adds to the dynamic movement of the figure.
Wow I just sat here for 30minutes watching this and it oddly feels satisfying
Ikr this is so relaxing to watch
I've genuinally used this to get to sleep. His voice is so calming
Videos are amazing along with your skills chillier, another fantastic trooper
Cheers!
This is one of the coolest videos I've ever seen on RUclips this is by far something interesting to watch
Why thank you!
Another great job. Love the bag you made. Really makes it pop.
Thanks!
That's absolutely great! I love modelism (for warplanes) and Star Wars, so here I'm served !
Thanks!
It looks fantastic! The orange really looks good. My only criticism is for the black scuffs use a smaller brush. Other than that, the toothpick weathering is a really cool idea
Thanks!
Really enjoying these clone trooper vids.
First time ever watching one of your vids. I loved it! Liked and subscribed!
Thank you!
Would you make a purge trooper version?
Masterpiece, your so good at this its mindblowing
For of you without the tools and paints that he uses, the same type of weathering can be achieved if you leave the figure with a child for about a week.
Actually though, this looks amazing, great job!
I like the background music and + your voice I fall asleep lol
This is amazing!
Thanks!
I 've been using masking tape as straps on tanks since the early 2000's and it's held up great!
Well I probably got the idea from you then! 😁
Absolutely amazing! :)
This is legendary!!! Love your work 😍😍
Thanks!
You should create your own never before seen clone
Excellent work, your display shelf must be looking like a military museum of the Clone Wars by now!!
lol almost!
crazy bc this guy sounds like a clone. love it
This is awesome dude
Thanks!
Love the customising!
Nice job. :)
Thanks Vaughan!
Best videos for making these! Helped me alot
Happy to help!
Love it! Your tips are so helpful!
Thanks!
So awesome man!
Cheers!
He probably has enough models to make an entire scene from a movie. Very nice!
lol almost! Commander Cody is the dream...
@@modelchili You mean, "Commando Cody!"
Oh, the homage for that one was so obvious!
DID they have any clones with "Rocketeer" jet packs?
AvengerII if I’m correct the only jet pack they used were the ones that Rex and wolffe used on Felucia. Other wise there might be others but I’m not sure what you mean by “rocketeer”
@@jonyt3hchunk Commander Cody got his name from an old serial called "Commando Cody, Sky Marshal of the Universe." A ton of George Lucas's ideas for Star Wars came from old serials like that one and the Buster Crabbe Flash Gordon serials.
The rocketpack/jet pack is referring to the fact that COMMANDO Cody flew around with the aid of a rocketpack. The late Dave Stevens who created The ROCKETEER character, admitted his comic was based on Commando Cody and the other Rocketman serials. Disney optioned The Rocketeet and made a live-action film from it that debuted in 1991. Disney has been talking about a remake of that film while they're on this remake crazy (ie, Disney HAS NO NEW IDEAS).
The connection between the clone troooper Cody and Commando Cody would have been even more obvious if Lucas had that clone trooper be a SKY trooper with his own jetpack!
Damn this is so badass
Thank you for the video!! I really hope I can do this project in mid - late 2020
Thanks for watching!
you have a ton of talent keep it up
Awesome work, man. Loved the look of these guys when I was real young, I hope they add the Airborne skins to the new Battlefront
I agree
Cheers!
Really nice video !
Thanks!
Wow man I want your skill! Amazing job!
Thanks!
I love Bondi kits, did a clone trooper build, but his backstory was he had a pelvic wound. So anyways made some diapers for the figure, since he was now incontinent, looked really great after some dirtying up, and urine stain on his armour.
excelent job
congratulations
Cheers!
つや消しするともっと映えそう!素晴らしい!!
Not a clone fan, but LOVE your videos! I also really like you're honest and show the mistakes and corrective actions. Fantastic!
Thank you!
dfmodelkits here mate, good work love it!
Cheers!
great
Damn this looks like good stuff here ........i needs to find some clone figures so I can get them for a fine addition to my collection
Add this to "random dope videos I found in the depths of youtube"
I do like living in the depths.
The coolest thing about these Bandai 1/12 kits is that the parts from any of their trooper kits will fit on others for example I have the 1/12 speeder bike trooper & the 1/12 C-3P0 the arms & head from c3p0 fit on my bike trooper & vice versa but all the parts from all the trooper kits are interchangeable between them selves this give you an unbelievable variety of customizations for a specialized trooper of your very own ..
Only with Bandai can you do this.
Awesome work dude. Might I recommend looking into kneadtite epoxy putty which is the same stuff(just end up green vs yellow). You might be able to get it quite a bit cheaper
Cheers!
Noice!
It would be cool if he made a purge trooper out of it
what if you put space battleship yamato crew uniform markings on clone armor
this is the first of your video's that I have watched and you sound like the one trooper who is the narrator for the campaign from the game called "Star Wars Battlefront 2" the original
Temuera Morrison?
@@modelchili Yes, and I don't know why
How can people dislike this?
Really cool. Would love to see it posed better.
Could you please make a PURGE TROOPER from Star Wars Jedi fallen order and the Darth Vader comics. They have clone airborne helmets, clone armour, black, puldron, skirt and electro staffs and clone blasters
Cool idea, but probably won't be using this type of helmet again for now. I've got two Clone kits left and they're already lined up!
ModelChili Scale Models thanks for the reply. Hope they will be put to good use. Thanks.
I don’t want to sound rude but for some reason when you talk all that went through my mind was, this person actually sounds like the clone troopers from the movies. Sorry if this turns out like a spam message, I just had to get it out of my head.
Aside from that amazing work, better than I could ever do.
lol I get that comment almost every other day. It's just a kiwi accent really.
ModelChili Scale Models , I’ll note that next time I watch a video made by you.
I wonder how well you would be if you dubbed the clone troopers from episode III, might actually be better than the original voice actor.
No one will ever top the great Tem Morrison.
You actually sound like a clone. Was not expecting that.
I'm just a simple man trying to make his way in the universe.
Please make Captain Rex, as well as Commander Fox, and Commander Bly and Bacara
A clone taught us how to make this
Did you leave the helmet on the figure while it hardened, Or just by itself? Amazing build btw. I love your channel! Im new to all this! Lol
Thanks! I took the helmet off before leaving it to set.
Mate skill level 100, I need to get into these, how much do you spend on these? I’m to Star Trek ships at the moment paint lighting the works but expensive, addicted to your channel now!
Didn't spend much on this one since it was given to me!
Awesome build, amazing detail & craft 👏🏻
Not sure about the music tbh, somehow it was distracting for me (might be a minority here!)
Thanks!
With that helmet you could make a Purge Trooper too, from the Fallen Order game.
I certainly could!
I never knew what the purpose of the waist-cape was...
maybe it works as a mudflap
The orange needs to be coated again, and u need to use a cloth not foam as it just looks simple tbh. Also where u have put the little additional plating to the chest it should be higher up and down, other than that it’s a great build.
Cheers! Thanks for the feedback. 👍I probably won't use cloth for these, it never looks weighty enough and veers into action figure territory.
Very cool ! Are these Clone Trooper Captains the different ones who order the executions of the various Jedi ? And do you know if these Clone Trooper Bandai kits still available? Love the attention to detail you display!
What did you use for the clasp on the straps on the kama? I've been struggling with that for months...
Yeah I totally forgot to mention that didn't I... lol. It was just another bit from my spare parts bin. It was a small squarish frame that I cliped the corners of to make it taper off a bit, then sanded it down to make it thinner. It was just a lucky find, next time I make one I'll have to come up with a different solution.
knew you were a kiwi from the accent haha
Busted!
i was thinking of getting these paints from a company called "revell", just wanted toknow if they are any good on models?
Been enjoying these custom Bandai builds. Please do more! Also not sure if you did him or not but... Cmdr Cody? Also is it just me or don't you have close sounding voice to jango?
Commander Cody will be a challenge!
If you want straps that actually look like a fabric... try using Lego micro canvas. Very thin, with a nice weave to it. I've been using it for years on 1/18th customs.
Paint for buckels? Not to knock your work, but damn. I'm used to making buckels, adjusters, etc from sheet styrene for 1/18th gear and weapon slings. No excuse on a 6 inch figure.
Either way, nice work overall.
Where would you find Lego fabric big and cheap enough for that? I'm not making excuses for anything, but if I did then it's just because I don't have the skill level and/or patience to go that far! But good on you though, you must have some impressive looking stuff.
@@modelchili bricklink.com is where I used to get full Lego sails from their pirates line. Check it out.
And I was in fact, well known in the star wars and joe customizing communities, for being rather innovative and level of detail.
Google "obi-shinobi customs" for later joe related works. I went by "blasterman" before that, on sites like rebelscum.
One of my most famous, and most copied material and technique wise... was a 1/18th version of the 1st 12in sideshow snake-eyes.
He sounds like an Actual Clone no cap
Hey ModelChili! Just wondering, how did that putty hold up for the helmet articulation and is it a secure/tight solution or is it pretty loose? Thinking of buying one of those helmets.
I wouldn't use the epoxy if you wanted good articulation, it's pretty restricting, but holds well.
Am I still able to use the paint straight on plastic method for every part? I don’t have an airbrush and I’m trying to start my first kit but the painting process kind of confuses me
thats cool but im just irather wait for the 6 inch black series figure to come out in the airborne trooper but nice custom build
Thanks!
Curious question; Why don't u use a wash to dirty up the armor? Coupled with what you are already doing I think that would add a lot of dimension to it.
I do for some of my figure kits. I just mix it up now and again, check out my other figure kits and you'll see me apply a variety of weathering techniques. :)
@@modelchili will do!
looks great! only provlem i see is the chest plate is a tad too small, great build tho!
Cheers!
How did using the epoxy putty work out for the neck hole? I'm thinking of using that technique for a custom bandai model kit clone.
It works pretty well!
so do you leave the clay on the neck over night or just take it off and leave it over night ?
Oh yeah I took it off, didn't want it sticking to the neck.
i honestly wanna see one of these clones but not battle scarred like freshly made armor
Would you make the Galactic Marines, commandeered Bly and the clone classes from Battlefront 2 next
I've got two kits left, they've already been decided. 👍
If you don't mind me asking, where did you get the shoulder ammunition? I'm trying to make a heavy trooper of my own and I can't find them anywhere!
It was a 3D printed part gifted to me
Where do you buy your Star Wars clone trooper figure/model kits
if you apply wash after weathering don't you take away some of the weathering itself?
No, the weathering is sealed under a clear coat.
Is there a specific type of masking tape you're using? Based just on what it looks like/ the fact that you're using other Tamiya stuff is it Tamiya brand?
Yeah it's Tamiya masking tape, 6mm.
Wouldn't it have been better to paint the straps for the cartridge? Or use styrene to make them? I'm just curious because I feel like the tape would eventually start to peel away..
I'd also like to see more of your top-coating solutions.. Why not protect all of that paint?
It's been over two years since I used masking tape on Gree, it hasn't diminished yet. I always put clear coats on models, did I miss that step in this video?
@@modelchili I didn't see a clear coat part but I could be wrong cause I was tabbing windows while watching. Impressive that the tape lasts that long though!
Dude I have the clone on the cover! 😊😊
The 3d printed pieces look really cool where do u get them from ?
Ena Evangelista a subscriber sent him bags of extra parts, 3D printed pieces and cast pieces
You can find them in the description under the video. There will be a link which should take you to their website where you can pick up these amazing 3D prints
If I were to send you a figure and some references pictures would you be able to do this kind of work for some money? Btw incredible job I could never do stuff like that, that’s why I’m asking.
You can contact me via email (in the about section of my channel) and I can get you a rough estimate.
Where did you get the epoxy putty? I want to make a phase 2 heavy.
I get it from my local hobby store.
Rad!! Where do you get all your references from?
Very very nice!
Do you also sell figures?
Thank you! No I only build them to keep. 🙂
Where can I get that mini cutting matt?
Those chest straps look off, mostly because they should be going all the way down to the belt
I cut them off under the chest piece to retain articulation. Not that he moves much anyway.
Idk about the random black lines and dots on the model, kinda just looks like chipped paint on an old action figure or like you left the model in a drawer full of uncapped pens as apposed to marks on well used armour.
It’s a shame because the rest of your paint work is absolutely amazing and far beyond anything I could do.
this tered out graet
