- The flamboyant gothic or high gothic style of the 15th century is a uniquely French, anti-classical style. It was revived throughout the 19th century, sometimes faithfully copied, sometimes reinterpreted and even pushed to new aesthetic heights.
This eccentric piece is a late 19th century exaggeration of a 15th century « dressoir » from the French “dresser la table,” or to set the table. It is a piece from medieval interiors which were not like our contemporary room layouts and uses today. Nevertheless it is a piece associated with feasting, the dining hall, displaying platters and locking away food.
In the repertoire of finer neogothic pieces, decorative art pieces which differ from the more everyday neogothic pieces made during the late 19th century, this piece stands out for its bewilderingly profuse decor, size and flare.

That is truly beautiful !!😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Thanks for watching - this was a great piece to film and feature.
Stunning example of neogothic furniture, both in quality and in gusto!
Amazing that this sort of a "sideboard" is so intact, it would have been quite easy thru the years for some of the open tracery to have broken and lost. I enjoy seeing gutsy pieces no matter the style or era. thank you for showing it. As usual entertaining and informative.
Thank you for this and perfect word for this piece, no matter what one feels about it - it does have gusto.
While not a fan of gothic style, I viewed this piece as a piece of sculpture. I picture it in a modern setting, with two minimalist chairs on either side, and abstract graphics above each one. Now I want it! Thanks so much for your sharing your expertise, and entertaining presentation.
la mejor época de todos los tiempos
