    Donald Trump Jr., your claim about Denmark preventing Greenland from exploiting its natural resources is completely false. The Greenland New Deal!

  • @harold1901
    @harold1901 3 дня назад +10

    There have been occasional rumors and speculative discussions about Greenland potentially seeking closer ties with the U.S., but there is no concrete evidence that Greenland wants to leave Denmark and join the U.S. as a state. Greenland is an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, and its government has expressed interest in greater self-determination, including the possibility of independence in the future, but this is a long-term goal, not a push to join the U.S.
    The idea of Greenland potentially becoming part of the U.S. gained some attention in 2019 when former President Donald Trump expressed interest in purchasing Greenland, but the proposal was quickly rejected by Denmark and Greenland. While the U.S. has military bases in Greenland (due to its strategic location in the Arctic), the territory's political and cultural ties are firmly with Denmark.
    In short, while there are occasional speculative discussions, there is no indication that Greenland is actively pursuing joining the U.S. or leaving Denmark in the near future.

      Trump has said that he just love looking at maps, and that Greenland always caught his eye, as the worlds largest almost empty plot of undeveloped real estate, that he believe should belong to the USA, so there you have it. This has nothing to do with US security, but with unfiltered greed + a misconception of how big Greenland really is.
      In any case, the USA do not have a single icebreaking warship capable of patrolling the Arctic, while Denmark have 4 icebreaking frigates doing this job as it is now. The US base on Greenland is also a Space facility, monitoring and watching out for hostile satellites, nuke missiles and aliens, so it's not really capable of defending anything. So I find Trumps take on all this quite amusing.

      @@jty9631 Both the official and general opinion in Denmark is the same as the Greenlandic slogan that "Greenland is not for sale, but is open for business". In 2018 China declared itself a "near-Arctic state" and then in 2019 offered financial assistance to build three airports in Greenland that could give them a foothold near Canada’s coast, a possible foolish deal agreed to by Greenland that triggered both Denmark and the Pentagon and behind closed doors it was agreed that Denmark would provide Greenland with the $225 million for the airport project instead, to keep China at bay, which is then what happened.
      There is a minority of politicians in Greenland that want their independence at all cost, and they believe that Greenland can totally stand on their own, free of all ties to Denmark and NATO, but also free of any other foreign powers, like the USA, China and Russia. Of cause this is a dream that can never be, because they would be totally defenseless the moment they step outside the umbrella of Denmark = NATO + the EU.
      Trump is actually right about one thing, and this is that Denmark seem to be doing nothing to exploit the endless natural recourses of Greenland, so Denmark is showing no greed and is not robbing Greenland, like Trump and a tiny rich elite no doubt wish to do.

    It is Greenland, and only Greenland, that determines what future Greenland will have.
    It is ridiculous to listen to a person who thinks he is an expert after staying for 5 hours in a country.
    Denmark has been in Greenland since 1320. The International Court of Justice decided that Denmark should have Greenland.
    If the USA imposes economic sanctions against Denmark, the USA will enter into a trade war with the entire EU. Last year, a musketeer's oath was made in the EU that if a country is exposed to economic restrictions/tariffs/boycott then the entire EU applies. This oath was initially directed against China, but now it can be used against the United States if Trump wants to punish Denmark.
    Something else is that France has today announced that a physical attack on Greenland is an attack on the entire EU. If Trump wants hard on hard, he'll get it.

S. and the other two I mentioned is that America believes in freedom. Sounds like your people are itching for a fight- I don't know - just saying. There's less than 60k residents of Greenland, and there's no reason we shouldn't make them all rich and free.
    When Trump says we're going to treat you well, he really means it. We'll set you and your country up for life, and like our other territories, offer the best protection in the world in exchange for exclusive access for our bases and some US say in decisions at the national level.

      I have lived in Denmark and I can confirm that a lot of the Danes think very poorly of the Greenlanders. Originally Greenland was settled by Norwegian vikings (coming from Iceland). Of course the Inuits, the natives, were always there. The connection to Denmark really came about because Norway for a time was ruled by Denmark. Today the Danes seem more like colonizers than equal partners. Despite of Greenland being self-governed, it still has a lot of Danish officials there. I don't think the US would have a greater claim to Greenland but I do understand the security concerns. The solution is probably greater access by US military with some sort of dispensation to the locals. If Denmark makes too much of a fuss maybe an idea is to swap the US virgin Islands for Greenland? Get your facts straight Mr. Don Jr. - Denmark has paid billions and billions over the last 200 years, to sustain the Greenlandic population - so saying that Denmark is ripping them off, is really insulting. It is actually the other way round.

    They really do need to get the input of the Greenland people. I heard one lady an American that lives there and isn’t interested in it becoming a part of the US. If the people are good with it then why not?

    • @Rimrock300
      @Rimrock300 4 дня назад +2

      The Greenland people can in theory vote for joining the US, and the Danes says in general they won't go against the wishes of the Greenland people. Greenland is half way indenpendant at this point. It's not correct as Jr states, that the Greenland people are stopped form having some minerals not extracted. Greenland decides fully themselves over their minerals. It's the governemnt of Greenland that do not want to see mining for uranium, due to risk of local pollution. The Greenland society is shaped and run according to the Scandinavia social democrat model, there is a quite large distance to the Us political model. Will likely end up with a independant Greenland, having a close relation to both the US, and EU

    Strange . Greenland has total autonomy. Only foreign affairs and defence is run by the Parlement in Kopenhagen.
    Besides, Denmark pays a lot on social security. They will never get that from Trump.

      They should own them. People have wanted for decades to access those resources and Denmark refused to allow it. When Denmark's government planned to legalize pedophilia that put the end to anything like a relationship. The voters in Denmark killed that in a hurry.
