'Watching you' is about his son when he is little & it's great. I also love the 'Farmer's daughter' which is awesome as well.
Love this song! Another fun one that has his son in the official video is "Watching You" - Rodney co-wrote it, inspired by his young son Elijah getting in trouble at school because he'd been singing his dad's hit song (Rodney's first #1) "If You're Going Through Hell". Teacher's weren't happy about "hell" in the lyrics lol. And for a father-daughter dynamic, check out "Cleaning This Gun" I don't believe there's an official video, but there are some live versions out there.
This song is special to me. It is the song I share with the young man who became my son when he was 15. I'll claim him every time.
My dad had his 3 sons follow in his footsteps and worked with him everyday and now my son is doing the same working with me. It is a very special thing to do this. I can not imagine anyone could be closer than we are.

Look up Rodney's history- given up for adoption by his teen mom, returned by two families because of his health problems, etc. It's nice to see someone that has had success and developed a good family after that start in life!
Rodney is my favorite artist and I'm so happy that you found him. This has been one of my favorites for a long time and I'm glad that other people feel the way I do about it. You can do almost any song by him and they all sound great. One of the deeper cuts that I like is "Family" or "Feet". I hope you give them a listen.

I love the pictures of the fathers and sons together smiling with pride.
I think in small towns (never lived in a city)and certain occupations this is still the case, only now not just between fathers and sons but with daughters/mothers as well.
I know with firefighters and police and EMT/Paramedics many times it's a multi generation career choice.
Many times it's the case with military service as well.
I guess some of it is seeing the people around you do it every day and the pride they feel while they're doing it.
I had my grandfather, uncles and cousins who were firefighters growing up.

I'm a female but I followed in my father's footsteps. He had his own company selling seals to support the oilfield industry. I am now a Sr. Operations Manager for a company selling seals to the same industry and I've been with my company 21 years now. I lost my Dad 3 years ago and I sure do miss his wisdom but thankfully I learned so much from him.
I sort of followed in my dad's footsteps. He was a software engineer and so am I, though we are in completely different areas of it. I did learn to think like an engineer at a young age, which definitely influenced my career. On the other hand, neither of my sisters went into a remotely related field, though one concidered it.

There will be a time where you say that ones mine, for good and bad reasons 😂 I remember my dad listening to a neighbor explain what we had done and just saying "is that right" it took everything to hold back laughing.
