      Just a small advice Bob! And never mind. Your designs are very simple and I feel that buyers are looking for more complicated designs. Try to look at the best sellers and get an idea and make different designs. I wish you good luck.

      As a designer may I higlight the importance of mockups, keep in mimd 70% of ppl are shopping on their phone, if a thumbnail doesnt catch their eyes they will scroll past. Mockups that convey a lifestyle look work better, etsy mock ups for shirts with happy ppl wearing them, phone cases on a pretty desk, mugs in a cozy setting, etc. Ppl buy feelings not products. Printify mockup are too zoomed out so the design itself looks tiny and the boring white bg doesnt help create that feeling. Test your mockups on your phone if the design and product isnt apparent at first glance change the mock up or the zoom angle.

    Been listing one item per day and after I got to 100 listings I had a break and didn't log in for 2 days and when I did it said I made a sale 2 days ago 😁 plus I sell digital vintage wall art so there's alot of competition so I'm happy with my progress so far even if it is only one sale lol

    Glad I've watched a couple of your videos since my wife just opened an Etsy store last week. We also fell into that advice we saw in so many other videos that "faster is better" for adding products too fast. Fortunately we hadn't added that many so now we're taking your advice and adding only 1 a day. Priceless advice!

Just to make views is really pathetic! 😕I'm following all your advice, I started my shop in early July I have 35 listings and I've made three sales, I'm not desperate yet😂, maybe I'll advertise. Normally an Etsy Coach would call me tomorrow for free and offer me 50 listing and $100 for ads. I'm going to take the opportunity to do it and see what happens if it's profitable.

    I think if this seller opens a new store with the same TYPE of designs, even if he niches down, he's still going to have trouble. These almost all look like clipart slapped on a tshirt - with the corgi shirt as an example, if there are a half dozen sellers all with the exact same shirt how are you going to stand out?

    • @etsyconsultant
      @etsyconsultant  Год назад +2

      Hi Melanie, I alluded to the work involved here, there is significant research involved to bring designs to the market that people will want to buy. There's only so much I can say in a RUclips video. The existing design level of course will unlikely yield significant sales.

    • @etsyconsultant
      @etsyconsultant  Год назад +3

      If you have a store that has lots of items in it with no sales and has been open for months, start a new store. If you have a store with few items in it and no sales, and has been open for months, start a new store.
      You have to use the first 3 months of your stores life to gain momentum, which is why I always suggest listing 100 items at 1 item per day = 100 days.
      You should have made a few sales in this time to prove business viability.

    QUESTION: Having received the message loud and clear about listing 1 item per day, I still have a use case question about highly correlated groups of items that I think others might be interested in hearing your opinion. EXAMPLE USE CASE: A new shop with a niche of consumers interested in the metaphysical domains of tarot, astrology and magic. Say you have some jewelry that represent the four elements of the western esoterical tradition. My instinct would be to list all four at once because of overlapping interest and search terms that would be used. What about 7 highly correlated pieces of jewelry. What about if you are going to sell all 12 star signs. I think it is very likely your search terms for a earring for astrology would result in people being disappointed if one or more of the 12 signs were not available for say an earring, bracelet, amulet. I completely understand and agree with your algorithmic and "Etsy trust" assumptions. I can think of many other examples of merchandise that have small groups of highly correlated products. This is kind of a cost/benefit question so would not expect a definitive answer but would like to know your thinking on this.

    • @etsyconsultant

    Great video! I think the idea of a main niche like a dog niche and sub niches with breed of dogs is a very good example that can apply to any kind of business besides just an Etsy store. Having your own website in a specific niche as an example. A membership site that deals with one specific topic and related products to sell. Evergreen topics also means all year round sales and not for one season.
    I think people get overwhelmed with the effort of making sales that they will throw in the kitchen sink and everything else in the hope of making sales. The POD platform serves a purpose but even there you have to provide a viable niche and stick with it!
    Finally, I would go one step further and that is creating your own brand that eventually becomes recognisable over time and which noone else has. The successful ones are those who ooze tons of original styles that people really want to own! Maybe it will take some time for people to understand that that is where we should all be heading.

    I opened my shop a month ago. I only discovered your content yesterday but thankfully, I had been listing on average 1 listing a day, not involving social media (I was about to, before I saw your videos) and slowly but surely upgrading my shop and making changes to make it better and better. I turned on Ads at a $1 a day a few days ago, and I got a few likes and one sale. I have since turned them off, since I know it was far too early since I don't have that many listings in my shop yet. My shop is entirely digital products. Today Etsy placed a reserve on my payment account. I don't understand why. It seems these kind of things happen when an order is not shipped, but I have no shipping since my products are entirely digital. It doesn't look like much can be done about it. In your experience, for what reason does Etsy do this and is there any way to appeal it or am I just stuck with it for the 45 days?

      Hi there, thanks for your comment. Etsy have been doing this to many new sellers, and there was an article about it in the BBC recently:
      www.bbc.com/news/business-66201042
      Since the article the % of the payment reserve has been reduced which is great news.
      2 points
      1) As a digital store it shouldn't affect you, since your items are delivered immediately.
      2) If you find that your funds are still being held even after the item has sold please contact Etsy, since your items are not going to have any tracking and are delivered immediately, in my opinion the funds should be released.

      Your new store looks nice though for the type of product there are stores with thousands of sales, in order to compete u might need to expand into more niches within the wall decor or Samsung tv art which is similar. Also friends can purchase a few items as social proof does make a difference. They are allowed to buy but not leave reviews, also not a good idea for someone who shares the same wifi to make a purchase or interact with ur shop as Etsy might think is you with a different account.

In total I have 57 views and 45 visits with 14 lisitngs so far. I opened my shop July. I also have another etsy shop I think I might close it I haven't been working on it. Hi Nik! Great content as always 🙏🏼
    My question is; do you recommend listing 2-3 items a day for the shops nearly a year old? I opened my digital shop on january, i have 170 listing now and 107 sales (i started listing 3-5 items per day for last 2 weeks). I have a huge inventory so i think i can keep going in this speed for a long time. And also there are so many seasonal items i want to list before it's too late (like halloween themed ones) and i won't be able to list all of them if i go 1 listing per day.
    So do you think it's okay to list 2-3-5 items daily for shops like me?
    Or do you recommend listing 1 item per day no matter what?
    Thank you! 💖

    • @etsyconsultant

      Hi, you have to be careful not to overcook your store and be left with a large store that is not converting. As we are about to enter in to autumn, you can certainly try 2 a day, but listing 3 to 5 a day is going to make a 150 item to 250 item increase in 30 days, this has a high chance of not working out.
      Try 2 a day, but I would not go any faster than that.

    This was a great video! But if I may offer some constructive criticism, I found it super hard to watch due to your mic/volume. It was fine in the first fullscreen view, but then changes in the next view (1:05) and theres this weird feedback/echo that causes me to have to turn it down making it harder to hear you, and then it changes again and the volume goes way down when you change views to your corner cam, still with the same odd feedback sound. Still totally enjoyed the details in the vid, but thought I'd share the volume/mic issues I experienced. Don't want this to seem like I'm complaining, but just as we watch these videos to get good tips and hear good feedback, I always feel like the same can be given back to the video creators when needed. 🙂

My main piece of advice is to know how tough this will be to make it work, and to be realistic about your earnings/sales chances in the first year. Hi, it depends on what you sell, Q4 is good for most Etsy stores.

    Thank you for making videos like this! I opened an Etsy shop in 2020 posted a few products and made a few sales. I decided to get back into it August of 2023, new name, new look but should I have re opened a new store? Does it affect an algorithm or something for been on standby for 2 years?

    Dear Nik, great video s. Really learning a lot. I am from The Netherlands. So when I open my digital stationery etsy shop. I will choose The Netherlands for location and Euro as currency but can I choose English as language and enter the text on an invitation in Englisg? as I would like to sell worldwide. Or should I list my products all in Dutch and Etsy translates it to English? Hope you can answer my question. Much appreciated. Regards NF
