Remember when heimdall send Hulk back to earth in Avengers Infinity War? There was no bifrost... Then it might be him who sent Thor to earth in the first Avengers movie!!!😊❤
Odin didn't do it himself because he already knew what the Avengers were going to face after he passed on in Thor Ragnarok. He knew that the Avengers needed to work together, that Thor still had some growing to do, and that if he stepped in it would put the world at a greater risk from Thanos.
One thing to note, I remember there being a comic book saying that the dark energy made thor weak in avengers 2012. That’s probably why Hulk beat him up so easily and pushed him so far with one punch lol.
It takes a lot of energy. Heimdall did it as well. There is a risk of Odin doing it too much as it will make him take the Odinsleep sooner than he normally would, leaving Asgard unprotected. Just like we saw in the first Thor movie. For a studio that's doing something that's never been done before, I'd say their continuity is better than expected. Just look at the shithole 4th Matrix movie and all of DC. Keeping all those plates spinning is tough.
Speaking of continuity, Nick Fury has a pager to summon Captain Marvel but for some reason, he seems to have no memory of it in either Avengers 1 nor Age of Ultron. It is only by the end of Infinity War that Nick somehow regains his memory of the pager. What's worse is that Captain Marvel herself never bothers to show up in the Avengers films nor the Guardians of the Galaxy films despite that she's been an active superhero for 20 years.

Odin used to be the protector of the 9 relms. He gave up in the MCU. Half of the first 3 phases, he was asleep and in the other half, he's dead.
