I do like that they took some of the runic moves from the first game and made them part of your basic arsenal of attacks. River of Knives, blessings of the frost, and Leviathan’s wake were always my favorites.

the timing is static everytime and the window is pretty lenient unlike the just frame stuff in Capcom games, the hard stuff is mixing that with all the flashy combos he was performing
I just found something when replaying this boss; when Garm is spitting icicles at you, there are boulders around the arena. Toss one and you'll knock him down. I don't know if that was put in through a patch or if I simply never noticed before.

Just make a save file at the boss check points. I got all 60 save files dedicated to boss fights. I think it's a total of 70 bosses and mini bosses including the travelers/Atreus bosses & what not but you can fight all of them whenever you want this way. Even the 10 that I couldn't save at a checkpoint, I could still easily travel to... Hope this helps.
I admittedly had a lot of difficulty getting a read on Garm's attack patterns, so I'm probably going to be using this to get a better idea of how to handle him in the future. The parts where he would lunge at you, it seems like a split second decision where you only have a very small window of time to figure out whether his bite attack is going to be blockable or not, and I couldn't figure out if he was doing blockable attacks and unblockable attacks in a predictable pattern. He doesn't really telegraph that blockable bite that much either. It drove me absolutely mad when I fought him. I also did not realize that attack at 2:56 was blockable.

Thing about gmgow is that bosses are much more preferable than having to fight multiple enemies at once. It is utter hell especially with grims. By no means am I understating your skill though, as you are either the best or one of the best gow players.
Yea i wonder how he plays in the sections where theres 6 enemy damage sponges spamming projectiles at you, with a miniboss in the middle of them. Thats majority of the game too

The way Garm twitched at the beginning of the fight reminded me of the Hydra in GOW 1
I had to go 4 shots deep in whiskey to beat Garm on GMGOW. This is just other-worldly.

I don't believe it's unupgraded, the boss health bar is orange which implies that the boss is on the same level as him/almost one livel higher at most
