Here is another video on how to fillet a channel catfish:

I think the only way to keep it slime free is with a constant supply of salt water. Prob the best flathead fillet tutorial I've seen.
Thank You. You are correct, its tough to keep slime down when cleaning catfish.
Thank you for not throwing the belly away. I was shocked by how many youtoubers just throw it away.
The belly meat is the best part. LOL
I wished I watched this video prior to doing my first flathead tonight, sorry to say, I filleted it like a channel and didn't get the belly meat. :(
😊😊😊Man I've lost count of how many times I've watched this video!!!! A friend of mine used to place the fillets in the oven and bake them until almost done, with onions, and celery. After partially cooking rice, he added the garlic and rice to the pan. WHAT A MEAL 😮😮😮😊😊😊. How about a video that shows how you prepare the fish for a meal?
That sounds really good. I will for sure start doing some videos on cooking stuff we catch and kill. We have had quite a few people ask us to do them now,LOL.
Dude makes this look super easy. A total pro.
Thanks, I have cleaned a couple over the years, LOL.
Excellent video man! I appreciate you taking the time to show everyone this because I’ll never skin them again!
Thanks. I'm glad this helped you out. If you would like to see any other types of videos made just let us know.
THANKS FOR SHARING YOUR TECHNIQUE!!!!!!! I often thought this could be done, but I never saw a actual video of it until I SAW YOU DO IT 😊😊😊😊😊😊. I was truly amazed. Keep your videos coming 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thanks for watching!! Follow for more!!
@@MCTProductions'm laid up in the house, I need a hip replacement that has been rescheduled 2 times. I'm now setup for October 2nd. I'm just hoping that I can sit in a chair on the bank 😢😢😢😢. Watching videos, especially yours keeps me looking forward!!!!😅
And to think I just watched a ten minute video with a guy running his mouth instead of showing how to get the fillets off a flathead catfish. He took one fillet off, and you've SHOWN US THE QUICKEST WAY OF GETTING ALL THE MEAT FROM A FLATHEAD!!!!!! 😊😊😅😊😊😊, in the same amount of time.
@@terenceparrish6292 Hopefully you heal up quick and can get out soon. Thanks for watching and we hope to have some new flathead videos soon.
@@MCTProductions BELIEVE ME, I'LL BE LOOKING FOR YOUR VIDEOS!!!!!
Loved the way you did this......only thing I would add is cutting the tail off and either hang the fish or let it swim a little bit.....drains all the blood right out and helps keep the cleaning process a little cleaner....otherwise.....that's very efficient
Thanks!! I have bled fish before and it makes the filleting a lot cleaner, but i soak all my fish in a bowl of water for a few hours to over night before i package it or cook it. Doing that makes the fillets bleach white and really firm, so thats why i don't bleed them much anymore.
That's how I'm accustomed to doing it. Thought at first you weren't going to get the head nuggets. Good man
Oh yea i get every thing. LOL. The head steaks and the belly meat are the best parts.
Really great way to get all the meat off in one process. I will do this. Much thanks for this great technique.
Thanks!!! Glad you liked it.
Great information thanks for not keeping this to yourself really appreciate the information you have a blessed day
Thank you sir.
Nice! I did it almost just like this and everyone had something negative to say about how much meat I wasted lol glad to see someone else has some common sense!
Hahahaha, theres no meat left on a fish when done this way.
@@MCTProductions yeah lol smh
It helps to cut them just in front of the bottom of the tail when you catch them so they bleed out. Less mess on the table when cleaning. Cut deep.
Rob R That or pull/cut out the gills! Both get the job done
Yessir
I live in a big city my passion and hobby is fishing for peace of mind..country boy at heart..never cleand a catfish but i wanna try this next week give a man a fish he eats tonight..teach him to fish..fed for life
Thanks for watching and good luck!!!
I like it, never seen it done quite like that, going all the way around the fish before separating the belly meat from the filets. I’ll give that a try next time.
EatnLunch thanks for the feed back! Glad we could help!!
Amazing way to clean a cat fish! Great job, put a rag or paper on the board to prevent the fish from sliding.
Thank you.
I do it the same but I use the belly fins as a grab handle while I take the belly skin off with my electric. I start my cut on top of those hard fin bumps and cut towards the rear. Both fins stay attached to all the belly skin. I take that belly silver film out also. I think it gives it a bad taste. I’m eating blues and channels right now. I live off catfish. Breakfast and supper yesterday.
Nicely done friend, I'm glad I looked up a video, I never knew catfish had this belly meat. Filleted 1000s of fish and your instructions are perfect.
thank you.
Yeah, you've done a few! Nice!
You look like tyler off of moonshiners...
So question, the way a buddy showed me how to do it was take only the meat above and behind the ribs, and justifies it because he thinks the belly meat's bad. I have no clue and no experience with catfish so is it just wasteful to leave out the belly meat or should I start taking that too?
The belly meat is not bad at all on flatheads. It is actually the best tasting, and flakiest. On channel cats and blues, we don't mess with the belly meat because it is not as thick and has a lot of fatty oils in it.
Can you tell me which brand electric knife you are using? I've never used one, but it looks perfect for the belly silver skin and think I will try one. Edit: After looking closer, looks like Rapala.
this one was the rapala kit from Walmart but my favorite electric knife is the mister twister knife.
Great video. 👍
Thanks buddy!!!

Awesome, thank you for the support. If you would like to see any other types of videos or have any questions, feel free to let us know.
Man do I ever wish I watched this video before I filleted my first flathead tonight, I missed all that good belly meat filleting it like a channel cat!
The belly meat on a flathead is awesome, you will be glad you cut it out if you do.
Well done!
Thanks.
What electric knife is that?
This one in the video is the Rapala travel kit package from walmart. I really like it but for doing walleye or striper size fish it don't have enough power to cut the ribs very well, so i also have a Mr. Twister electric and it has twice the power and i love it.
What is the best way to get your Flathead prepared to fry you just soak them overnight in salt water or buttermilk .
I just soak them in plain water and they are firm and bleach white every time.
i have had every brand of fillet knife .none compare to the rapala heavy duty .i have got to go try and catch some flat heads i here there great eatin. not much on channels or blues.good job on that fish.
I like the Rapala for sure but my favorite is the mister twister for sure. Flatheads are way better than channels and blues. Thanks, and good luck getting one.
Something to give a shot, when you first catch em and you know you're gonna keep em, slit the main artery and bleed them out. This makes far less of a mess when fileting them, ensures a quicker death for the fish, and imo a better tasting filet. This works for all species.
It is a way cleaner way to fillet them for sure, but bleeding fish has NO affect in the way they taste atb all. I have done countless taste tests with buddies that argue this with catfish and not once has anyone been able to tell the difference in the taste of ones that were bled and ones that were not.
@@MCTProductions to each their own.
@@erikstark3250 agreed, but I have literally tested this close to 100 times over the years with a lot of people and not once has there been a time someone said they can taste a difference between the two. Now that being said, I wash and soak my fish before there are frozen or eaten.
No water?
Good job
Thank you.
Great video - if you cut the tail off - you can let the catfish bleed out!
Thanks. I've bled them and soaked them and theres no difference in the end product. If you don't soak them and just play them in the freezer then yes, it makes a difference. Soaking them takes all the blood out and also makes the meat firm up.
Have you tried bleeding your fish ? And great video
Thanks. Yes, I've bled them and if I have the time ill do it, but most of the time I just clean them without bleeding them. All bleeding them does is make it way less messy to fillet, I soak my fillets in water for a little bit to over night and they are just as clean and white as when bled out or better.
I agree, it's useless to skin a catfish. Nicely done.
Thanks!! Yea i don't get why people take all he time to do it then also clean off all the red meat.
BEST CATFISH CLEANING VIDEO ON RUclips in my opinion!!
Thank you very much.
Thanks
Thank you for watching! 👍🏼
Good God that's the bloodiest flathead I've ever seen
You don't bleed your cats?
I have and do if I have a live well or stringer when on the water, but for the most part I don't. I do soak the fillets in water after cleaned and they are always clean and white once soaked in ice cold water or the fridge.
Alot of folks don't know about the belly meat🤔
Thats very true, and even more people don't know about the head steaks also.
that 🐱 🐟 had a long rough day
Your flats a extreamly different than mine.
How is that? I have caught them in numerous different states and they are all the same that i have seen. Except color, they are a ton of different colors even in one body of water.
the way the meat jiggled was like fat jiggling
Karen: omg stop hurting the fish!
I have never seen so much blood on a fish.
They all bleed this much when they are alive when you clean them
Dude, rinse that table
it gets rinsed as soon as all the fish are cleaned. No sense in cleaning it multiple times. LOL
Rinse that shit
They get soaked as soon as they are cut out and put in the bowl. It's just a waste of water to constantly have it running and rinsing off the table for no reason.
@@MCTProductions oh I see
Its messy.
I thought you said the easy way??????
Its super easy. I can clean a fish faster than others cleaning them by just filleting them
You made me of a mess than needed to be.
I don't bleed fish before cleaning them because it makes no difference in the meat taste either way. I've bled them before and it's time that i could have already cleaned them. I soak all my fillets in a bowl of water after cleaned and they are all bleach white before cooked. I even say that in the video.
@@MCTProductions I see. I'm just thinking of less clean up.
@@pierrejackson3441 it for sure would make clean up a little faster, but i have the garden hose sitting there ready to spray it off as soon as i'm done.
