Awesome !!! Looks like mid- century modern ! , James you have the patience of a Saint !! ~ you certainly emphasised the importance of good design that looks attractive and performs its function well ~ congratulations!! ( masterpiece ) .
Thanks Wally, I always look forward to your comments and, as usual I am flattered. The design of the Orb Chair was an interesting journey, starting with a concept and just evolved week by week during the build. To tell the truth, there were days where all I did was look at the partially built chair trying to figure out what to do next! Loving your channel as well. Warm regards James.
Astounding work, James! It was quite complex to cut all those angles and to figure out how to clamp them. The orb flag was really innovative to get all the ribs placed correctly! And fitting on all the trim at the end!! It's understandable that this took several months to complete. Top notch design and craftsmanship!!
Thanks Mike, The angles and joins were tricky, and pretty much every one of them were a sanded fit. I also have a small bucket of rejects that I couldn't get to fit. My next build will be a lot simpler. Loving your channel my friend. Regards James
If I were you, I’d design furniture around having one arm, like chairs with 1 Armrest. So everyone will know your work when it becomes priceless!! Love the chair!
@BlockchainToTheFace One armed chair is now on my to do list. Funny enough, if you look in the background my office chair only has one armrest. Have an amazing day and thank you. James
Yes, the Orb Flag was so helpful in keeping the ribs circular and was also an interesting facet to the story. Thank you for watching my video. Regards James
Beautiful job, James. Figuring out how to execute the work and fit it all together single handed was obviously an intellectual challenge as well as the physical!
I am in awe of your ability as a craftsman. You achieve far better results one handed than most people manage with two. This chair is simply stunning! As for the base: I think it fits well as part of the overall design, I would certainly keep it. Congratulations on making a beautiful and unusual piece of furniture.
@Usksider Thanks John. I'm getting some amazing feedback on the Orb Chair, and comments like this one are inspiring and encouraging for me. Much appreciated. James

While taking a risk making furniture without a design you also open yourself up to endless possibilities sometimes good ones sometimes not so great but I would consider this an overwhelming success I think you created an art piece for the ages! This reminds me of something from a time when furniture designers created things that demanded attention, you do incredible work and are an inspiration thank you for sharing your work with us.
Thankyou for your amazing comment and appreciating the risk involved. Facing design decisions every day and trying ti pick the best idea out of several was possibly the hardest part. Do you share any of your work on the net? Regards James
Good morning 🌅, What a great sense of achievement, even more so as you only have one hand arm to use, even people with all their limbs were struggle, many years ago I made 14 tub chairs, I do believe I have seen something similar to yours, where a guy made a load of plywood rings with gaps in them similar to yours, but I believe he failed on the first attempt, what you are making is art, keep up the great work,
Great comment from a fellow chair builder. Believe it or not, one concept was horizontal rings with spacers, but cutting rings on the bandsaw is a chore (unlike gluing up angled ribs). 14 tub chairs is impressive, were they the old fashioned turned leg version. I worked in a furniture factory and made sets of balloon back dining chairs. A set of 12 including 2 carvers was my biggest set. Thanks and regards - James
You certainly enjoy a challenge! Great design and build. I would skip the webs in the base though, as I don't think they add to the aesthetic. I'm in awe of your patience and creativity and look forward to seeing what you are going to do next.(After you have a well deserved break). Cheers, Rob.
Hi Rob, good to hear from you on this project and yes it certainly was a challenge. The base was a real speed hump and in the end I just threw it together using scraps and offcuts. I think I was going for an roman pedestal kind of design.. maybe. I think a timber Katana will be the next project. Regards James
Incredible, im absolutely blown away by this work of art. Truly a stunning piece of furniture that will be around for decades to come. I could sit staring at it for hours.
This is your first video which I have watched and I am blown away. What a wonderful piece of woodwork I should have been proud to make such a piece but to see you work is amazing
I've certainly never seen a chair quite like that; very creative without looking like it's trying too hard. Very nicely done, now you should probably put an ice pack on your head after dealing with all the unusual angles. The chess board caught my eye, and I see you were kind enough to anticipate this and provide a link. Thankyou Cheers mate.
Thanks Greg, Appreciate your comment and health advice, never thought of an ice pack but I did consume a few paracetamol and wine. (FYI they didn't help). Enjoy the chessboard video. Regards James

Wow. Amazing chair and craftsmanship. I agree it is the most complex chair ever made on youtube. And s great video production too. Very professional. Keep up the good work.
Wow! Amazing work, James. I really like the way you did the head rest and how the solid wood portions meld together to give the piece a cohesive stucture. Oh, and i really liked the dust hose holder to out on the table saw. I might need to make one of those. Taper cuts like that always throw 90% of the dust back instead of down into the cabinet.
Thanks Keaton. The headrest and timber trim were my favourite part of the build, so it pleases me to know you liked it. As for the dust shroud, it's just the corner out of a cardboard box. Share your design if you make one. Loving your channel my friend. Regards James
