ONE HANDED MAKER
Австралия
Добавлен 10 июл 2021
Hi there,
Welcome to the "One Handed Maker" "片手メーカー" channel.
I'm located on the East Coast of NSW and I love designing and making projects out of timber.
My workshop is an amazing place where I try and create unique pieces of functional art.
Just like my channel name I only have one arm/hand. Having one arm makes my RUclips videos a little more interesting as I challenge myself by creating complex and intricate pieces.
In my current workshop I make bespoke furniture, boxes, jewellery, and musical instruments from Australian and exotic imported timbers.

Unusual Orb Chair Build
Watch me make the most unusual chair you may ever see on RUclips.
See me make the chessboard I play at the end of the video, in the link below.

The Orb Chair is based on a 400mm or 15.7 inch radius circle and the 80 ribs are all traced from the same template. To align all the ribs in a circle I used a jig called the "orb flag" which took all the guesswork out of maintaining the orb shape.
This extremely unusual chair design took three months to make and set a new level of complexity when it comes to making furniture with one arm. Made from 130 pieces of timber using New Guinea Rosewood and Australian Red Cedar. The wedges between the ribs are all cu...

Zebra Wood Inlay Chessboard
Просмотров 45 тыс.Год назад
This Chessboard is made from 180 pieces of timber! Finally I made a Chessboard for my grandfather's chess set which was passed down to me from my dad who was an avid chess player and a furniture maker with a workshop and showroom on the M1 highway in Frederickton NSW. I made several chess tables when I was 9 years old to sell for pocket money and there is a picture of the nicest one at the end ...
HIDDEN Compartment Furniture

I made a Hall Table with a hidden drawer as my first attempt at secret compartment furniture. Imagine what treasures you could hide away in this secret drawer and the surprise on friends faces when it springs open at the press of a concealed button. I spent hours lying awake at night designing the secret latch mechanism which was the hardest part, but it worked out and the spring loaded conceal...

The curved rails are made from both timbers and alternate from front to back. On one side the top curved rail is Maple and the bottom curved rail is Mahogany and on the other side they swap. So you get two different looking tables when yo...

Your mind must be whirling at top speed all the time... What a unique design and process you've shown....
Thanks for the kind words and your interest in my work Joel. It was very challenging.
While taking a risk making furniture without a design you also open yourself up to endless possibilities sometimes good ones sometimes not so great but I would consider this an overwhelming success I think you created an art piece for the ages! This reminds me of something from a time when furniture designers created things that demanded attention, you do incredible work and are an inspiration thank you for sharing your work with us.
Thankyou for your amazing comment and appreciating the risk involved. Facing design decisions every day and trying ti pick the best idea out of several was possibly the hardest part. Do you share any of your work on the net? Regards James
