Hi Scott I get your point and yes the sub is expensive compared to cans and bottles but it needs to be taken into context of what you are buying. There is two types of torps a silver labelled “standard” torps which are all £9.99 and below and the black “craft” torps which are £10.99 and over. All the silver standard torps are all mass produced pasteurised beers although some might be readily available in the UK and some quite rare and hard to find. The black craft torps are all beers from smaller or more desired breweries they are all chilled handled and torped by BOTTEL and as such should be as fresh as it can possibly be. These craft torps are also unpasteurised but the main reason for the extra expense is they are supposedly chill held all along the collection, kegging & Beerwulf holding until sold , in fact the only there are not chilled is during yodel delivery & however the customer decides to store the torp. Even though these black torps seem expensive when you compare them to equivalent bottles/cans prices for the same beer they are not that expensive at all. Take the delirium you mentioned it’s currently £2.75 for a 330ml bottle in Tesco. For close to the torp volume you need 6 bottles 6 X £2.75 = £16.50 With the torp being £18.99 you are paying £3.16 per 330ml glass which is only 42p more per glass for having draught quality Delirium Tremens at home, this is not taking into consideration that delirium Tremens is at least £6 per bottle in a pub/bar if you can find it. This is the same with a lot of the black craft torps which seem expensive on face value but once you start breaking it down and comparing to equivalent cans/bottles you soon find they are not that expensive for having draught quality beer “craft beer” at home. I strongly agree about the postage as £8.94 is extortionate forcing customers to buy 8 at a time. As for the PD I agree the keg returns are a great incentive for customers but it does have some limitations especially with craft beers. InBev insist that all the kegs on PD are pasteurised and this includes the supposed craft beers from Thornbridge, Tiny Rebel, BrewDog etc. there is no way InBev are going to compromise this requirement so it means smaller craft beer breweries are unwilling to even consider the PD as a viable option for home draught. This is the main reason Camden Town brewery are not currently on PD even though they are owned by InBev as Camden are not willing to compromise their beer through pasteurisation. The Sub on the other hand has craft beer in its DNA with small sized torps they are willing to allow unpasteurised beers on the machine which gives it its only advantage over the PD. I have both machines and tend to use my PD more but I do like my Sub for the rotation craft beer range which there is not much on PD that can come close. Overall though I can see why the average home drinker will find the Sub expensive and may well decide it’s not worth bothering with Due to the cost of torps and postage. It’s something that Beerwulf don’t seem to be listening to or looking at as they are happy to keep putting prices up with 3 price rises over the past 12 months max no doubt there will be another one in the next few months once the new financial year starts. Price will the thing that eventually kills off the Sub but let’s hope Heineken & Beerwulf notice this sooner rather than later. Have a good weekend Joff 🍺🍺👍👍
I’ve seen a couple of videos lately where the beer from torps has come out looking like dirty dish water. Leading you to believe the beer has been oxidised. Who wants to pay north of £15 for a torp of beer like that? Not good value for money at all. Also I believe we will see Camden Brewery beers on the PD in the near future. I do remember you saying in many video comments that the PD would never ever have temp control but look what happened there.
@@IamKevinFinnerty the oxidised looking torps could be down to bad storage. The black craft torps do say along the top “keep cold” and a lot of people and shops don’t actually do this. I’ve walking into shops and seep photos of these craft torps on shelves with no refrigeration so this could be the issue also. As for Camden on PD yea it could happen but the latest from InBev is they won’t do unpasteurised beers on PD and Camden are massive on the fact their beers are unpasteurised, which is a massive stumbling block currently especially after almost all of Camden’s Marketing is based on the fact their beer is “NEVER PASTEURISED”. As for the temperature control on the PD it’s not actually on general release yet and is currently only in the hands of 150 beta testers. There is rumours it should be released later this years (possibly March/April time). I was told the holding temperature & 30 day stay fresh requirement was an issue so it seems the beta test is in the wild to determine is the 30 day stay fresh still applied or if this needs to change. It’s good that InBev listen to us and are willing to give us what we request so yea I’m happy to be wrong on this. let’s be honest though it took InBev a long time to listen (nearly 5 years) and a lot of people just jumping onboard due to the pandemic don’t know this or in fact didn’t even know the PD existed until the pubs closed. We were all wanting a temperature control when beers were held back from releasing and even discontinued due to that exact reason like when Bass was available (and disappeared due to negativity over serving temperature) , when Goose IPA first appeared but was delayed and when Port Bay pale ale was finally made available, but the tag line from InBev was “NO TEMPERATURE CONTROL DUE TO 30 DAY STAY FRESH REQUIREMENT”. So remember it’s took over 4 years of us all requesting via surveys for beerhawk for InBev to finally get on board with the temperature control so I think I can be cut a little slack for how long it’s actually taken now it finally looks like happening.
Really interesting view on the machine it's disappointing about the cost of kegs for it I think the cakes need to be really well distributed throughout maybe supermarkets would a Returns incentive I doubt supermarkets would be interested in 1 managing Returned but I think this will seem to work it will need to be in supermarkets
Hi Scott, Just stumbled on this video and it peaked my interest because my sister bought me the exact same machine for Xmas last year plus 4x torps and I loved it. Perfect pint, great taste. 👍 You're spot on with the amount of beer per torp though! I got through all four quite quickly over the Xmas period so in new year I went online with a view to ordering more and holy sh*t I saw the prices of them (and the delivery cost if you didn't buy a full box of 8) and it put me off completely! 😢 I feel bad because my sister knows how much I enjoy a cold pint, but because of the cost of the beer, I've not used it since. In my opinion, they should do like supermarkets do with wines and offer money/percentage off if you buy over a certain amount in one transaction, and forget delivery. THEN I'd be interested in buying more. Glad to see someone else feels the same way. 🙂
hi chris. I cant disagree with anything you say... I STILL like the machine, but the drawbacks outway the good for me.. Sadly... Havent bought a torp in god knows how long. Same with the Perfect Draft...
I love my compact and even when you get up to say the £12 mark for a torp it's still well worth it for 4 × 500 fresh glasses of something top notch like paulaner. Obviously it works out a lot better if you buy 8 with free delivery. Now I tend to stick to around the £8 torps like edelweiss and it's a steal. The size thing seems to be an issue for a lot of people but when you go to the shop it's 500ml bottles or cans that we buy, not pints and there's no complaints.
Hey Barry thanks for the comment. The quality of the beer is very good. I’m not in a position sadly to be able to outlay for 8 torps at a time. Wish I was 🤣🤣 I would be more interested in beer tokens or something similar to entice me back. I do like the machine. And will return to it think when the decent stuff comes out.
@@ScottReviewsThings yeah man I agree that they should do some kinda beer tokens aswel, I only order every few months cus I'm not that well off myself. Lol. Some of the deals are great though especially if you like the standard beers, the zipfer at the minute is so cheap and it's actually one of my favourite lagers on there. My machine is a bit fucked too so I have two morreti to drink then it's probably for the bin but I will definitely buy a new one. Best present the woman ever got me, I've a PD aswel and honestly the quality is just as good on the cheaper machine.
Every beer I’ve had from the sub has been lovely. That punk ipa was astounding good. And never saw it again. I like my PD. And agree the beers are both of fantastic quality. It’s just that fucking P&P that does me for beerwulf.
Quite simply this machine saved my lockdown. Agreed about the costly postage charges and some of the prices on the more premium torps. Whilst buying in bulk is costly it does save in the long run. Also, most people complain of changing torps after every 3.5 pints. If that is the case I suspect 8 torps will go in no time! Either way the Krups sits nicely on a kitchen worktop and allows the user to experiment with beer as a bad choice is only 3.5 pints down the drain! A great way to getting to own a beer tap in your own home.
Hi Ramo. Thank you ever so much for the comment. I got mine during lockdown as well I believe. And couldn’t agree more. That these machines were priceless during that time. Just look how hard it was to get one You’ve made some very valid points and I thank you for them. And I agree the machine is a looker. Well. The compact isn’t 🤣🤣
Well said Scott. I have sacked my Kruups compact off for the same reason. So expensive and get mates around the thing is drained too quickly. Keep up the great videos
I've got the classic and the compact, love them both, got them both on the go, something different in each, when ones finished just load it up with another.
Cracking video mate, especially if someone is looking to buy one of these machines. Had mine almost a year, the beer apart from Newcastle brown is terrific! Like a few folk have said,,, look for the reduced beer and fill your boots! My last 8 torps cost around £65,, 4 lagers, 2 wiess beers, pilsner, belgian blonde. I think for variety and storage the krups is a definite winner for me.
Hey Stephen thanks for the comment. I tried to be fair as I could and look at it from an objective point of view. Hopefully that came across. I don’t think I’m done with it as I first thought. I’ll just be selective in what I pick up. The beers I’ve had have all been great. Cheers. Stay safe.
Hello Scott I've had my Heineken branded SUB for 2 years now I think it is and even though I now have a PD I wouldn't get rid of my SUB . I think the big problem with the SUB is there is TORPS which are you do get the odd gem but they don't hang about for anytime which in comparison to the PD is tiny. Its a bit of shame because they looked like they were picking up abit, but cost well you just can't get away from it. If you can believe it I'm just enjoying a Delirum for the first time😎, good vid as always Scott all the best to you, Wanda and family🙂.
Totally agree, got mine in Nov 2020 and loved it and the beers from it. That punk was outstanding and the Brasserie du Mont Blanc ipa was one of the best I’ve had, but way too expensive. I’d go halves on torps with mates who also had one to make sure we got free delivery. As soon as I got my PD though I sold the sub but I do miss some of the beers, and the cider availability. If a new model ever comes out and they sort the price I’d be tempted but for now it’s just a nice memory.
You just need to be savvy with the Sub so you get a good deal. For example, currently you can get 8 torps Zipfer for around £50 which is decent. I signed up to their Subscription service in October/November time and every other month I get 4 x Heineken and 4 x Birra Moretti for £64 but when I signed up I also got 8 torps FOC which is what made it worth it. I think if you keep an eye on their website you will be able to find a deal that works for you. Some of the torp costs are mental though, the most expensive one I buy as a treat occasionally is the Lagunitas for £13.99 because it is so good!
hello mate.. thank you for the comment.. really appreciate it.. i think you make some very fair points here.. i went into this with a clear "im done" attitude.. however, by the end i was more on the fence than ever.. i do like the machine.. and the beers are of good quality.. maybe i will return to it after all. thanks again and have a great day..
I had kind of come to the same conclusion that the Sub is an expensive way to go so I guess it will be another Blade for me.Thought about a PD but been reading lately they are having more than a few problems
Good video Scott and appears to me to be a very fair assessment. I was very close to buying one to go alongside the PD but int he end just couldn’t justify the cost of buying the torps from BW
morning kevin.. i didnt want to do a hatchet job.. i wanted to come at it in a "what am i getting from this?" way.. and did a bit of prep for once...and came at it from an honest stand point.. hopefully that came through.. i agree with the price of torps from BW.. and also if they had something like beer tokens to entice people back that would be helpful. someone has mentioned about the subscription service and i have taken that on board. overall. i thiught i was done with the machine. but i do like the beer
I have found I am not buying torps anymore since the pd came into the mix, like you I feel that delivery charge is killing it off plus no loyalty rewards.
@@ScottReviewsThings it’s sad really as you can’t fault the beer quality, I think beerwulf hold customers to ransom. I heard a lot of people saying the prices have gone silly now compared to a few years ago
Beer quality has always been fantastic. That Punk Ipa Torp was superb. Probably the best home machine beer I’ve had. It was that good. And agree beerwulf are pricing the machine out of business sadly.
Great to here your thoughts on this machine. I had two at one point and sold them both recently. Enjoyed the beers but the machine was flimsy and cheap made in my opinion. I find the PD best to suit my beer drinking habits, we got two of the bad boys set up in the kitchen and it’s like a tap room said the wife haha
PD pisses all over this for me. As does beerhawk over beerwulf. Beer tokens. Keg return etc. rewards to come back. What do you get from beerwulf? NOTHING. Just astonishing P&P costs. As people say. If you can pick up torps locally that is the way to go for me. As I won’t be made to buy 8 torps to get free delivery.
@@ScottReviewsThings yes I’m lucky here as we have a premier corner shop that sells the beer kegs and torps for all the machines and Kegman who is also a Cheshire based website. beerhawk customer service is superb. I do like some of the beers on krups not going to lie I enjoyed the panther and zipfer.
Think the Beer Monster machine is the way to go, Simon has the advantage as his local shop sells the torps and pd kegs , shame you don't have a shop that sells them near you
Anyone had any problems with theirs? Use mine 3 times in 2 years and the pump doesn't work.... I've just bought 8kegs for Christmas and as it's just out of warranty they don't want to know...just had a quote £67 to fix
I gotta give my views now from a different perspective, and not that I disagree with all you say so here we go. 1. Is punk still out on the sub & if so is it the 5.6% one. If so get it and do a comparison with the pd one 2. postage costs, yh 8.95 could be lowered to compete with other beer shops, say 5.95. most places you do have to pay postage until you reach a certain amount so I don't think theyre really taking the piss there 3. buying from shops is ok but the torps tend to be more expensive so ironically if you buy 8 torps from a shop your probably paying more than that 8.95 anyway, granted without the outlay in one go 4. 3 n Half pints per torp. Yh to the typical British drinker it's not much but it's owned by Heineken &I think they've tried to push as something that you use 250ml glasses which is more of a European thing, you know from the start what they hold. Also yh if your a big drinker the machine isn't for you as I found out 5. Some beers do seem expensive but do do pd ones. Again imagine your drinking from 250 or 330 glasses all of a sudden looks better value. Delirium 18.99, 6 glasses , £3.16 for a 330ml glass of delirium draft. Price isn't that bad 6. Yh prices have shot up but like everything unfortunately including the cost of living I think.it is something that hits the consumer regularly and never the fat cats 7.overall I don't think in general things are that bad, yh things could be tweaked from beerwulf but also the consumer could work it better to suit themselves. I think a £50 to get free delivery would be better. Don't agree if you have a case n half that they want to charge delivery for that half case( if you can afford that much). If I couldn't afford to buy 8 in one go I'd put money by each week myself to get the best out of how they work it. Anyway just my thts on it. Good video mate 👍
I have the classic, they don’t make it anymore they only sell the compact, I think the build quality of the Krups machines are poor, they do some nice beers but compared to the perfect draught the build quality is terrible, I think Beerwulf should bring out a better machine to compliment the Great beers available in torps 👍🏼
Yep definitely agree with a lot of this PD and beerhawk simply miles ahead it's not even close watch my rant how beerwulf treated me and the last torp review so so poor and £14.49 beerwulf service and costs are terrible and they really don't care.
I had wondered what had happened to your machine- my brother in law's got the PD but it's too pricey for me for the use I'd get out of it. Have you tried refilling torps yourself? There are a few hits on Google about it but dunno how reliable it is.

morning kevin.. i didnt want to do a hatchet job.. i wanted to come at it in a "what am i getting from this?" way.. and did a bit of prep for once...and came at it from an honest stand point.. hopefully that came through.. i agree with the price of torps from BW.. and also if they had something like beer tokens to entice people back that would be helpful. someone has mentioned about the subscription service and i have taken that on board. overall. i thiught i was done with the machine. but i do like the beer
I have found I am not buying torps anymore since the pd came into the mix, like you I feel that delivery charge is killing it off plus no loyalty rewards.
Hi Kevin. I completely agree on all fronts. Absolutely zero incentive to return for me. Sadly through beerwulf.
Think the Beer Monster machine is the way to go, Simon has the advantage as his local shop sells the torps and pd kegs , shame you don't have a shop that sells them near you
Beer monster too much of a faff for me.
I can get hold of PD kegs quite close. It’s the torps I struggle with.
Hi, you mentioned a place in waterlooville where you buy torps, any chance you can let me know whete that is please? Thanks
Hi Jason. I’m not sure they do them anymore. But it may be worth a look.

Anyone had any problems with theirs?
Use mine 3 times in 2 years and the pump doesn't work.... I've just bought 8kegs for Christmas and as it's just out of warranty they don't want to know...just had a quote £67 to fix
Terrible customer service. Do you have a Twitter account? If you do. Post about how poor their service is. And watch them sort it quickly.
I gotta give my views now from a different perspective, and not that I disagree with all you say so here we go.
1. Is punk still out on the sub & if so is it the 5.6% one. If so get it and do a comparison with the pd one
2. postage costs, yh 8.95 could be lowered to compete with other beer shops, say 5.95. most places you do have to pay postage until you reach a certain amount so I don't think theyre really taking the piss there
3. buying from shops is ok but the torps tend to be more expensive so ironically if you buy 8 torps from a shop your probably paying more than that 8.95 anyway, granted without the outlay in one go
4. 3 n Half pints per torp. Yh to the typical British drinker it's not much but it's owned by Heineken &I think they've tried to push as something that you use 250ml glasses which is more of a European thing, you know from the start what they hold. Also yh if your a big drinker the machine isn't for you as I found out
5. Some beers do seem expensive but do do pd ones. Again imagine your drinking from 250 or 330 glasses all of a sudden looks better value. Delirium 18.99, 6 glasses , £3.16 for a 330ml glass of delirium draft. Price isn't that bad
6. Yh prices have shot up but like everything unfortunately including the cost of living I think.it is something that hits the consumer regularly and never the fat cats
7.overall I don't think in general things are that bad, yh things could be tweaked from beerwulf but also the consumer could work it better to suit themselves.
Bored reading that 🤣
@@ScottReviewsThings 🤣🤣
I have the classic, they don’t make it anymore they only sell the compact, I think the build quality of the Krups machines are poor, they do some nice beers but compared to the perfect draught the build quality is terrible, I think Beerwulf should bring out a better machine to compliment the Great beers available in torps 👍🏼
The torps seem way better value than the pd kegs!!
Gold seems better value than PD kegs T the moment 🤣🤣🤣
@@ScottReviewsThings class response - was golden! Glad I just subbed!!
Yep definitely agree with a lot of this PD and beerhawk simply miles ahead it's not even close watch my rant how beerwulf treated me and the last torp review so so poor and £14.49 beerwulf service and costs are terrible and they really don't care.
Morning mate. I’ll have a watch of that.
I had wondered what had happened to your machine- my brother in law's got the PD but it's too pricey for me for the use I'd get out of it.
Have you tried refilling torps yourself? There are a few hits on Google about it but dunno how reliable it is.
No I haven’t mate. I need to take a look at doing that.
