    NOTE: This video was made before the 2019 & 2020 Formula 1 cars were added. They are much easier to handle!
    However this video is still quite helpful in learning how to handle The pre-2019 cars which are quite the handful! Those cars are:
    • Ferrari F14 T
    • Ferrari 412 T2
    • McLaren MP4/4
    • McLaren MP4-X
    • Lotus Type 125
    Also, please forgive the misspelling of “McLaren” near the end of the video! One of my favourite manufacturers and I am mortified that the mistake slipped past me. Spellcheck was wrong and I was in a hurry, can’t change it now.

      @@ivanskalos3416 Very true. Even though the G force number on the 2019 F1 cars is lower than the 2009 F14T, both mechanical and aerodynamic grip seem much better. The older car probably has higher low end torque as well making it easier to break the tires loose. You really had to have the correct angle and often feather the accelerator on the F14T when exiting a corner, but with these new F1 cars it's on and off the gas almost like a road car. You don't need to finesse them as much.

    F1 cars have more downforce then a NASCAR
    by far. F1 cars in theory can drive upside down

    • @ME7_RR3
      @ME7_RR3  4 года назад +29

      Oh yes, most definitely! However at low speed’s a NASCAR has a lot more weight going down into the track than an F1 car. In order for you to have down force you need speed. That’s the only point I was trying to make there.

    • @djnipem
      @djnipem 4 года назад +1

      No man you are just wrong. Ever heard about newton's laws and F=Mxa ?
      In order to move something less heavy you need less force!

    • @ME7_RR3
      @ME7_RR3  4 года назад +7

      @djnipem, not sure if you are talking to me or others, but I’ll through in my thoughts. I agreed. Lesser mass = moves easier. Thus F1 cars skid out easier at low speeds since they weigh less. Less G force is needed to move it.
      Newton’s 2nd doesn’t fully account for downforce. Spoiler size, location, angle, body shape, defusers, etc.,etc., all bring in complex science. 2 cars of equal weight accelerate and act quite differently based on shape. Then you get into dynamic spoilers... it gets very complicated.

      @@ME7_RR3 Okay now your said it right. In low speed corners is not about aerodynamics any more. That is why F1 cars are very tricky to drive compared to Nascar. In low speed is all about mechanical grip, hence newton's 2nd is affecting F1 cars much more due to their light weight.

After the collision the car feels extremely fragile. Interestingly not understeery tho. Instead it oversteers. So in my opinion damage definitely effects performance in this game. I rarely use brakes in the old F1 cars. The car slows down massively when you let go of the throttle or engine braking. This is often a useful 'technique' in (actual) *Real* Racing... One of the best *(Learning a Track)* techniques is to *LOOK* as far ahead as you can (see/control) while gradually increasing your speed such that EngineBraking (with NO Brakes) is your 'only' method of slowing down...
      [Of course - *Use Brakes* if you are approaching a corner faster than you are 'advancing' your comfortable corner entry speeds... but the key is to NOT *OverBRAKE* (by Not using your brakes, because you are gradually learning the true *'max' corner speed* - while gradually *increasing entry speeds* so that you learn the appropriate approaching speeds (and trajectories) for each corner...]
      KeithCode explains this in his way quite well... I learned it on my own, but was better able to describe it after participating in California SuperBike School...

    • @pentilex4338
      @pentilex4338 4 года назад

      Downforce is dependent on the point of air flowing over your car. If you're at low speed, there's less air flowing over your car, and thus, less downforce. The same will happen if you draft behind another car, as they're pushing all the air you need out of the way. This is a huge issue with modern F1 cars. You would know both of these things if you actually watched the sports your games are based on instead of making stupid comments

    Science time: the f14t and the new 2019 cars are completely different for 1 simple reason- go 300 with the f14-t and release the throttle. now do the same with the new cars.
    The f14-t slows down in """"neutral""""" faster than most normal cars while normal braking.
    The f14-t is rwd car-the engine brake of the f14-t acts as a handbrake so to have balance in corners you need to brake in order to weight transfer to the front wheels and load them to compensate for the engine brake g forces on the rear.
    The new cars have barely any engine brake and mostly aerodynamic one which is why lifting off the gas gives you traction on the new ones.

    The Pre-2019 F1s' grip are speed dependent. For example the F14T has 2.95G, you can't get that Gs at low speed and probably you'll be doing around 1-1.5Gs. LMP1 with 2.3-2.6Gs can use all of its grip at any speeds that's why they can do under 3mins at Le Mans while the F1s are over it. And lastly, the VW ID.R may have 1.77G max but seems to get multiplied as the speed goes up.
    So the grip numbers are just figures. The real grip of each car depends on code and multipliers that the developers do to each cars.

    • @ME7_RR3
      @ME7_RR3  2 года назад

      Very true, we’ll said. Even the handling is different. I normally have my steering sensitivity on 2 but I have to drop it all the way to 0 for the pre-2019 cars. Then it takes me a good 10 or 15 minutes to settle into handling that car and producing good times. The VW IDR, that’s a whole other level of settling. I have to ramp up the guts to throw that car into most corners, but then heavily over-brake for sharper corners or else lose the rear end.

    Something I noticed with braking is you want to be on the track to brake. What I noticed is it seems to brake better while you are on the pavement as apposed to half on and half off. I’ve often noticed times when I go way off track going into a corner, I’ve tried to brake half off the track trying to get a good line to accelerate out of the corner. But this last TT at Monza, I tried many times only to go off track. Then I tried on track and I was able to increase my lap times because I could hit the first turn by slowing down better. I hope this makes sense.

    • @ME7_RR3
      @ME7_RR3  4 года назад

      Hi there. Oh yes, that makes perfect sense. I actually did a video which proves your point. Oddly enough, the best braking power you can get is all four tires OFF track, LOL. Not helpful for time trials, but I’ve actually started using that strategy here in there. I will add that link at the end of this if you’re interested.
      There’s a handful of corners in the game where it is beneficial to be partially off track when you brake and that is when it gives you a better line through the corner. I noticed that when watching some of my friend Speed Junkies time trial videos. So sometimes that slightly increased braking distance is outweighed by the better trajectory. However I honestly don’t use that strategy as much as others do.

    I would disagree with the "can't steer at low speeds, because it's lighter". Under normal conditions the contact between the tyres and the road is called static friction. Said static friction lets the wheels oppose centrofugal forces when turning+the acceleration/braking force. The vector sum of all forces acting on the tyre must not exceed Gfrc=K*M, where K is coeficient of friction between the 2 materials and M is the sum of forces of the car's weight and downforce. The problem here is that the coefficient K drops as the weight increases, therefore when the weight goes up the g force at given speed and radius go up in linear function, while the max force resistance of the wheels goes up, but at continiously lower rates. Therefore the ratio of weight vs force resistance of the tyres ratio goes worse.
    The problem with all the pre 2019 f1 cars in the game is weight distribution and suspension setup. While most road going cars are set up for cruise type driving primarily and have relatively balanced understeed/oversteer behavior when taking turns even off the throttle/brake, f1 cars are meant to behave balanced (less oversteers and understeers) under heavy braking and acceleration, as you will do most of the time when racing. There is also the problem of overly-active engine brake, where lifting off acts as a soft handbrake on the rear wheels.

      I’m currently on an iPhone XS max and I couldn’t imagine going any bigger! I originally played on a Samsung note 4 which was big back then. The phone would sometimes slip and even fall out of my hands when I was cornering. Next I got a Samsung S7 and I actually found it easier because it was a little smaller and lighter. Although my XS max is big, I don’t slip near as much. It helps having so much screen like the new modern phones do, I don’t have to reach as far with my thumbs. I just wish the resolution was better. My old S7 has better resolution than my XS max.

      I’m not sure if you’re referring to a specific part of this video or just a general question. I made this video quite a while ago and don’t remember everything I said.
      One thing I learned about traction control is that it often won’t come on unless it has to. However when it does come on it stays on too long and you lose more time. It’s better to skid a little bit and recover by yourself then it is to have traction control come on. If you watch some time trial videos by reputable players you’ll see them losing traction here and there but still putting up times that are faster than 99.99% of people.

    I'm not sure why you are working your way down the sensitivity gradient, as you get better and have more control you should be using higher sensitivity to allow for quicker response from the car. Since you have more control and experience, you are able to control the car at max sensitivity while also getting the benefits. Look at the Ascari corner at 7:05, the sensitivity was so low that you couldn't take the corner at speed, with higher sensitivity, you can throw the car in so much harder, and since you have plenty of speed coming in, you will have plenty of grip to throw the car in.

    • @ME7_RR3
      @ME7_RR3  4 года назад

      - I went into that corner too fast, can't take it full throttle, have to brake, I didn't brake enough. If had thrown it any harder I would have gone way off-track on the right hand side. As you probably know higher sensitivity doesn't give you more grip to throw cars around. My point at that portion of the video is how Tilt A makes it harder to recover from a loss of traction.
      - When I first went to "no assists" I ran sensitivity 10. Over the past few years I slowly dropped it down to 2 for 99% of cars, 0 for a few. I got faster each time. In general what I found was that higher settings are way more and more twitchy. You car spins out easier because input is not as smooth.
      - In the Aston Martin this weeks WTTT, I had to drop it to 1 because I kept losing traction. I gained 0.6 seconds after doing that 1 point drop.
      -The key is to start your turn early enough and get the braking correct, because there's nothing you can do if your too late.
      -Most top racers I know run sensitivity of 0 to 4 and under, majority run 0.
      - However if 10 works for you, then that's great. At the end of the day it's whatever makes you a better racer.

    • @zrob8
      @zrob8 4 года назад

      @@ME7_RR3 I know it doesn't give you more grip, but in more than a few situations, especially in the f1 cars, you need to turn in late. For example, you're going through a hairpin on the outside of another car. With 0 sensitivity, you just cant make the turn, and also, just seeing the turn, I am confident you could've made that turn simply by turning up the sensitivity and trusting your right foot

    Please define "Heavy Braking"...?
    I thought (both the Throttle&) Braking had Binary (On/Off) 'values'...
    I suggested to the programmers;
    "Both Throttle and Braking Pedals should have at least 3 'Levels' of application...
    (... and maybe 5 or more next year...)
    This can be easily accomplished via (either);
    * 'Zones' - where the 'higher' on the pedal(s) you press, the more [Brake] or (Throttle) you are 'requesting'...
    or
    * 'Pressure' - I assume *more* touch pixels on the [Brake] or (Throttle) Pedal(s) get activated (either)
    - by the 'Harder' one touches (or)
    - as one touches initially with the tip of the thumb and gradually 'Roll' to the 'meat' of the thumb...
    I estimate that
    *Off Throttle* is roughly
    25-33% Brakes (currently)..."
    (and more...)
    So, is Variable (i.e. *Heavy* Moderate or 'Light') Braking actually already available...?!?

    • @ME7_RR3
      @ME7_RR3  2 года назад +1

      Sorry, I shouldn’t have said it that way. What I meant was “on the brakes for a longer period.” Often in this car you are on the brakes very little. They won’t ever change how the brakes and accelerate her work in this game. It would have to be a whole new game. It would be interesting if they were multiple levels but then it would also be more difficult I think. Physical buttons work better in those situations or something that’s pressure sensitive. However pressure sensitive would be very hard to implement across multiple devices.

    • @nofretbrett682
      @nofretbrett682 2 года назад

      @@ME7_RR3 I would think it should be rather easily accomplished; on (within) the Pedal(s) [framed area], the number of touch sensitive 'pixels' that are *activated* would determine how much braking/acceleration are being 'requested'... then, perhaps for simplicity, 1-33% would be 33%, 34-66% could be 66%, 67-83 -> 83%, 84-99 -> 99%... or just apply the percentage of [80%ofthePedal(s)] activated is the percentage of Throttle/Braking requested... (any amount over 80% of the pedal is either default 99% or can be used as intentionally inducing wheelspin or skids - both of which are actually *useful* (at times) in *Real* Racing...) [examples; spun out and facing the wrong direction? one can wheelspin/drift to make a tight(er) U-Turn than the position near a barricade may allow... Overshooting a corner entry? A touch of handbrake can convert understeering or going wide or off-track to some temporary oversteer that allows a late apex on the Throttle exit, or at least not going off-track... there are many other applications...]

      Racing wise it's exactly the same. I loaded the game on my phone, put the settings the way I like them and it handled just like my old phone.
      There are things I don't like about iOS. It's WAY harder to pause exactly when you want to on iOS. Also you MUST lock the screen for OMP or you get a DNF by just bumping the screen over a bit. On Android I could pull down the top panel to check the time, etc. Not on iOS.
      But it's Android's fault that I had to switch. They made it so that you can't record internal audio while making game videos. Samsung's internal recorder allows it, but the video quality is subpar. I talked to both Samsung and LG personally. They know the gaming community is mad, but it was Google's decision.
      I am getting used to it more and more. I miss the freedom of Android and all the settings options I had on nearly every app!

That’s my point about NASCAR’s vs F1 car weight.
