Sir, for gaming, movies and music, i have two choices, hd560s or akg k702, if you have any idea, do recommend, i know that 702 has the widest soundstage and only hd800s has more wider soundstage in comparison to 702
I own both although there are quite a few versions of “702”’s that do sound different from one another. I own the “blue” anniversary edition which does sound a bit different from some others. Yeah 702s have a nice wide stage I think at the expense of some lows and low mids, which I say it’s worth it at that price range. I say it’s bigger competition is the Sen Hd 650’s which also has a nice stage tho I think slightly narrower. But I think sonically more accurate. The nice thing about both is that they are very pleasant and doesn’t give to ear fatigue. So I recommend trying out the Sen 650’s and compare them with the 702’s I think they are similar in price
I have the Meze Classic 99 and my god they pound. The dynamics are insane for the price. Amazingly light too. Running 2.5mm cables from Earman sparrow.
I think for a budget at or below $500 Sennheiser is a great place to start. My first pair were the HD58x for $150 and I later bought the HD660S on sale for $350. While there are some great sounding planar magnetic cans competing at that price point specifically w/ HiFimann; their build quality isn't very good and their use case can be a bit more limiting due to the driver type. Btw I love the slow-mo shot of you wearing the Empyrean's backwards, lol.
@@DUNGEONMUSICTHEATRE no but I show very positive reviews of it, although very few people reviewed them I am considering to buy them unfortunately they not available in my country. It Would be really helpful to see someone like u do review of it form the perspective of mixing song.
have you tried the focal clear mg pro? i haven't put on my akg k701 and k712 at all since i did an AB test against the focals. also with the focals i've finally found headphones with bass response that makes my mix decisions translate well everywhere (better than monitors in my untreated room). all previous headphones i've had have been either too light in bass (such as the k701) or too muddy (such as the k712) to make good decisions.
I have owned several mid level, under $500 and under $1000 USD. I'd say they were like baby Audeze IMHO so when I got my LCD-3's I sold them both. Now at the time, Hifiman was just beginning to bring to market their $1000+ to $3000 and up endgame types, which I have heard one when I was on a trip to Japan. Unfortunately, I can't comment or recommend them since I've not really done a serious A/B listening test recently. But I will add it to my list since a lot of folks seem to be interested in hifiman headphones.
@@DUNGEONMUSICTHEATRE Thank you! To be honest I was just curious to know If you liked them or if you didn't and if you could explain in some way. The reason is because you're the first that hasn't said anything about them. Personally I already have two.
Great video! Just my 2 cents, 1st thing to considered is what type of music you like to listen and then buy headphones based on that. Not necessary to buy all types of headphone but to only buy the ones that perform well on particular types of music that you like. Also, headphone amp pairing is very important. Sennheiser's headphones perform exceptionally well on tube amp.
Interesting. I've generally stuck to Beyerdynamics DT 770s, 880s or 990s down the years and recently thought about auditioning a different brand, just in case my ears were missing something. I have the AKG K702 headsets on my shopping list, and they're at a price point where I want to be. I guess it's subjective, but I've tried a few Sennheiser HD headphones and I just can't get along with the shape of them on my head. Perhaps I have a funny shaped head? I spent more time being irritated by the feel of them than listening, and when I did listen I wasn't too impressed. My loss, I guess. Many thanks as I'll take away your point of having an alternative reference from your video and a recommendation for the K702s. Liked.
I’d say it’s a tad noisy cause of the tubes. But I’m being super picky. It’s sounds good. I’ve not done a proper comparison with my other Pre’s. Maybe in another future video… thanks for stopping by!!!
Yes I agree that there's a strong subjective element for sure. But I also think there's a good amount that's universal and can be quantified and objectified.
The most important pair of headphones you can have will be $30-50 at monoprice, since that's the quality 95% of people will have.. same thing applies to speakers.. doesn't matter if your mix sounds great on some $50k reference monitors if it sounds like shit on the budget speakers most of your listeners will be using.
Hey thanks for writing in. I don't think it's a bad thing to have a $50k speakers or $10k headphones as long as you also understand and respect how they will "translate" to budget speakers and headphones. Pretty sure that the best mixers and engineers in the world who own multi-million dollar speaker systems will never let there mixes sound terrible on budget systems. I think it's just another "tool" in the bag. I think if I may, you're pushing back on folks who insist that you need very expensive gear to make great music/mix, which is NOT true. Greatest songs and albums were made in some of the most humble settings. But if you could have access to better gear, if you use them properly, they can make things a little easier. Any who, thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Definitely use a pair of shitty free headphones that come with your phone alongside better headphones and monitors, also if you're not working with a laptop, use a tiny speaker that resembles the sound of a laptop/phone as that is what most people will unfortunately listen to👍🤝
Yep! All standard practices for sure in music/audio/film/tv production. I felt like this wasn't happening as much in the audio "phile" world, the comparative listening, which to me is a missed opportunity. Learning to hear differences with different gear is a lot of fun and tons educational!
HD650 is not balanced. Is may be compared to akgs blatant following of harman curve, but if you compare them to old HD580, you understand how hyped they really are. Then, if you compare that HD580 to a brutally flat reference sound, like DT48A, you understand how much THEY hype certain frequencies. MY advice after years of being into headphones is that it is way better to start with a good source and build from there, since you will never know the full potential of your monitor/headphone. If you use something cheap, like focusrite card, you will forever be damned to wrongfully judge your hard earned gear. Also, EVERY headphone sounds much better with much better source: dac/amp
In the context of this video, I was making a comparison between those 2 headphones, the AKG and the 650's. If I were to compare them to the 580's, it's possible that either the 580's sound "flatter" or "duller" while the 650's may sound brighter, or hyped. But alas, I wasn't doing a comparison with the 580's, which was my point in the video. I'm just pointing out the difference I hear between those 2 headphones I've selected, not necessarily comparing it to a flat response curve.
Really? I still feel like the empyrean for value and bass response, it’s something I enjoy still, even over my Focal Utopias which is substantially more expensive.
@@DUNGEONMUSICTHEATRE I apologize now that I look back on it, that was fairly rude of me and maybe I could've worded it in a nicer way. But KUDOS For acknowledging!

I have heard great things about focal for mixing across all their product line but never owned them. But it’s def on my list. Thanks for the tip!!!
My 650’s on tubes are damn nice.
I had the opportunity to try the Meze Emp’s …they’re in one word AMAZING 😻
Folks at Meze out did themselves. I’m now really curious how they stack up against the Focal Utopia. Should be a great showdown!
