  • In this video, I will show you how to make an LED light panel salvaged from a broken LED TV. This LED light panel is super bright! You can even power it with a battery pack so to make it portable and you can bring it anywhere you want like going camping, working on cars, working outside at night, or make it a giant flashlight...etc. Watch part 2 where I installed these LED into a smaller package and more portable: • DIY: Home made LED lig...

    Sweet bro. I'm always needing more light to work, especially since I've gotten older. Gonna make one of these SOON. I just tried unsuccessfully to repair an LED tv. Broke the bezel. Now I have the lights left from the back. This will do nicely for my workroom to make repairs. I'll finally have enough light. Thanks friend. Good video.

    I salvage and use these types all the time, the plastic domes are actually diffusers, you can pop them off without harm to the diodes, and the light output will substantially increase. I prefer to use voltages under 20 volts d.c. as the current consumed rises exponentially above that value but the increased light output is really negligible. I have made movie poster boxes, and illuminate all my workshop equipment with these, you simply cannot beat the price and savings in electricity costs to use- if you find them roadside like I do. ☺

      What do you do to power them? I'm looking for a plug-in solution, personally. My TV just died, repair costs were too high (motherboard was bad), so I took it apart, and remembered that you can turn these into efficient lights, but I would like them to be fixed in place somewhere long-term like a standard light.

    Thank you. You video has answered a lot of questions I have had. I tear down Broken T.V.s for scrapping, but always save the LED strips. Did not no how to go about powering them up after taking them out of the TV's. Now I have a clue! The bare wire strips, that you soldered in parallel, are a bit scary. Maybe cover them completely with electrical tape, or a liquid rubber that can be painted on?

    I have done 2 of these, 1 Samsung 42" and a Vizio 55". On the Samsung, I removed the input board keeping the power supply board. When I plug in the AC power, it immediately turns on. With the Vizio, I had to leave the input board in and I must use the power switch or the remote to turn it on. How I realized that I needed to keep the input board was having the light on and start unplugging cables. One of them killed the light, so put it back. Since, I wasn't going to try to sell the cards, it didn't matter. I didn't think about it until it was too late, but if you can turn the brightness up to max before removing the LCD board do it.

      Bill P - dude... I smacked myself when I read the part that said to fire the lights up and work backward... I had luck with 1 tv (removing the input board, and plugging in for the lights to work), but the next tv (different brand I believe) gave me a magic smoke show and a scare that made me pack up all my screens until now..
      Can you please elaborate on your recommendation to get the bulbs to MAX before removing???? I don’t get what you’re saying, but I want to get it. Lol thanks

    • @williampitzer5817
      @williampitzer5817 3 года назад

      @@flojotube Sorry about the confusion. The one that I recommended to increase the brightness before tearing apart, turned out to be a plasma tv with VERY thin fluorescent tubes in the back. As we know they deteriorate and lose their brightness. Since then I've found that you only use LED/LCD tvs and when you apply power they are full bright. I haven't bothered to figure out all of the fine details, but I plug them in and if the backlight comes on, I tear them apart, usually, you can get rid of everything except the power supply board and the LEDs will light. In your case, you might unplug the boards that are not the power supply board and see if it works. If the PS is toast then you might be able to figure the voltage to run the LEDs and provide direct power.

    I have the same kind of led strips from a broken samsung tv. 12 x 7 led strip, 84 led total, I want to do a project for my camper lights sistem. So i have 2 options, i can power it from the tv power supply at 220v, but i have to keep them in series and im depending on 220v campings power, or i can put them in paralel and using 2 12v car batterys and i can go offcamping. So you say 3.7 x 7 = 26v / led strip. Can i put 12 together in paralel. If i will have only 26v power consumption, on a 24 v car batery bank, that mens only 1.08 amps. Am i corect?

    • @vuaeco
      @vuaeco  4 года назад

      You can only power it using 220V AC if you have the mainboard, power supply, and all electronics connected. Your TV model might not have the same 3.7V LED so you may want to test it first. But if they are the same, you can do 26V and then put all in parallel and power by the 24V battery which is actually about 29V when your car is running (or when it's charging). That's a bit over volted so you might want to add a resistor to limit the current.

    Hey guys does anybody Know if these led strips need a resistor kinda like any other led, without it wouldn't they burn up, also if this is true what kind of resistor or how many would you need for this setup, I'm trying to rip out the guts to my old kitchen florescent light and put these strips in but I'm not 100% on what I'm doing?

    • @vuaeco

      You only need a resistor when the power source has higher voltage than your LED is designed for.

    u can use a cfl bulb to power the cfl's in the tv

    • @NEW_INSITE
      @NEW_INSITE 23 дня назад

      If you find an old scanner printer that has the ccfl tube in the scanner, not the led bar, you can use the driver circuit from it to power 1 of the longer ccfl tube from an old lcd TV. They usually take a 12 volt input to make the ccfl inverter work. The inverter module is small, about 1 inch by 2 inch.

    When you change to parralel you need a lot more amperage! Amps are far more dangerous than voltage!!! A static spark can be a million volts but generally won't kill you because the ampere's are very low! Volts = Speed Amps = Pressure! Think of a car engine Volts = Horsepower Amps = Torque. So if those LEDs need 120v but only a fraction of a amp it's pretty safe but if the 20v needs 10-20 or 30 amps you might have a problem if you get zapped! 1 Amp can KILL! Not trying to scare you but I have formal training in the field!

    • @michaelsoutherland3023
      @michaelsoutherland3023 4 года назад

      Voltage = pressure, amps is like volume,,, He was a bit hyperbolic,,, you're thinking the right way but it needs to be a lot more than 20 volts... One Truck battery can be up to 1,000 amps, two of them in series is not going to kill anyone (some diesels are 24 volt systems)... My welder is around 20 to 30 volts spiking an upwards of 40ish at 140 amps, I do get a noticeable tingle if I'm sweating enough... It' is fascinating that a 1 amp is plenty enough to kill though the voltage potential still has to be enough to overcome any resistance,,, Rule of thumb for playing it safe (or thumb to thumb lol), hand to hand is about 1,000 ohms,,, but this can change depending on things like dry calloused hands or being outside sweating like crazy with soft pruned hands.

    What is the voltage of these LED strips? as I pulled 4 of these from a cracked screen TV and I did not measure the voltage of them before disassembly. I no longer have any parts except the 4 LED strips
    Mine have 11 LEDS each with 2 strips in each power channel

    • @vuaeco
      @vuaeco  8 лет назад

      the voltage of each LED is usually printed on the strip itself. If not then try an adjustable DC power supply until you can light up the strip then that's the voltage of the strip.

      As far as I have seen, It doesnt make sense to buy tv led strips for this use... there are waaay cheaper leds that will work to make led light arrays.. just search ebay for 3w led... this would be useful I guess if you salvage them from broken led tvs but the leds are the most common failure on an led tv so why not just fix it at that point? those tv leds have a short life unless you underpower them. you need a good heatsink to make them last at full brightness.
