I tuned broken 4K TV into LED Light Panel in 15 Minutes

- I was given this Samsung 65" UHD Smart TV that was found on a Chicago alley. It had a broken LCD panel(part that gives the picture).
There was no screws holding the outer shell. I removed the trim and broke most of them while doing this. Removed the speakers and the main board(again, no screws) . I was surprised to find, Power unit coming right up when it was plugged to the wall with the main board disconnected. Removed the broken LCD panel and the cables to it. Put the back cover to cover up the power supply and hold everything together. Taped the sides with aluminum tape (Found on HVAC department on hardware store ) .

I have done 2 of these, 1 Samsung 42" and a Vizio 55". On the Samsung, I removed the input board keeping the power supply board. When I plug in the AC power, it immediately turns on. With the Vizio, I had to leave the input board in and I must use the power switch or the remote to turn it on. How I realized that I needed to keep the input board was having the light on and start unplugging cables. One of them killed the light, so put it back. Since, I wasn't going to try to sell the cards, it didn't matter. I didn't think about it until it was too late, but if you can turn the brightness up to max before removing the LCD board do it.
Thanks, it's great to see that my newer $900 65" 4K TV with a cracked screen can be put to use.
That’s a great video light. Two more and you’d have a full studio lighting setup on the cheap. Great idea Utkan. 👍🏼
Thank you an actual explanation of how to do this! DIY vanity light here I come! Thanks dude!
@MasterOfNone I did it! It seriously took 10 minutes and that's with fighting with the frame on the front😂
@@ThatReallyWeirdArtist pictures!!! I shattered a 70 inch tv and I need a reason to not crawl into a dark hole forever.
Perfect use for all LG and samsung tvs at last regardless of wether they work or not because they're crap!
So I found this video and I got the 50" little brother of your TV, I barely removed anything from the inside and it turned itself off after a while, I guess it is the power saving mode when no channel is found. I still have my power button too. I managed to keep the frame the first time I opened it but now I hope it will not break when I have to do it again. '
I used double sided tape to keep the layers attached to the frame as the "paper" front wants to buckle and fall out. Double sided works fine for anyone reading this. I saw a behemoth of a TV I could pick up, 65" like the one in this video but unless I put it on my ceiling in my living room there is no place for it in my apartment.
I will re-watch this video tomorrow and use it as a template, its 2.18 am here in Sweden and I am too sleepy for tech :)
I will try tomorrow with my broken 2020 Hisense 65" u-led - should be brighter than the sun!
So I got myself a 65" UHD Samsung TV just like you and I have tried converting several other brands but they go into standby mode. So to anyone reading this I have tried JVC and Philips and they do NOT stay on, but every Samsung I have tried DOES stay on. I am sure there is a way to keep the other brands on too but Samsung is way easier so stick to them and you will do fine.
mine doesn't! 50" smart TV 4k
That's kinda why I'm here. I get all the broke TV's to turn into light panels but don't know how to keep them on.
@@chuckfinley5206 There is a chip controlling the PWM of the power supply. The one I am now researching a FA6B20N chip that I believe controls the PWM to power the LEDs, and looking for what's shutting that chip down, over / under current, under /over voltage, a timing circuit one of these issues is it shutting it down down. I'm going to figure what's turning off this chip. I'm keeping the lights on.
@@mickblackmore290 lot of the TV's and monitors I use are florescent rather than LED also.
@diy perk would be proud, good job!
To put on the ceiling, just have a piece of glass cut to the size to hold the other panels so they do not sag.
Would this work as a plant grow light?
Thank you for a brilliant video 👌
Got a place that gives me electronics. 90 percent work. The rest don't or sometimes I bust one. I have 20 or so 17 inch Dell monitors I can use as a light box.
i use that metal tape all the time, and it likes to rip, if you are using it because it looks cool, just put a layer of duct tape first for strength, and a layer of the aluminum tape for looks
Dude I’ve just done the same with an old apple monitor I also have a thought of repurposing the electronics from the tv as a smart tv box , great video you seem to have a lot less bother than I did with the monitor 👍 diy perks is awesome. 👍
I'm actuly doing research to do the same thing right now with the same t.v u have any luck?
@@MochiiMaroach no dude. It got to big and too much and scrapped it after dismantling and trying to put it all completely back together.
Just to time consuming. Great intellectual fun slowly dismantling the thing though
@@stevewalker9888 damn thanks for the reply tho
I tried to convert a broken LED TV into a faux window light but they said a direct LED TV would not work. Not satisfied with that I kept looking and found this. Back to the workshop ;)
If you put a smooth piece of acrylic or plexiglass on it you could sell it to a tattoo shop as a tracing table. Those bad boys sell for alot
lmao, talk about the devil... I just dumpster dived this exact same TV model and was looking up how to disassemble it for a light table project and boom! Your video shows up!
Awesome.
Ok, so I just found a broken tv and decided to reuse it for a DIY project, searching for some ideas on RUclips I open this video and what to see the exact same tv model 😃
I am just doing my first one which is why i am watching this one now. just need to put a LED strip in now :D
I got it done, I disconnected anything that did not turn the backlight off and now it turns on and stays on when I connect it to the wall socket. I have attempted this with a JVC and a Philips TV but they turn themselves off. So it seems if you want to make it with ease use a Samsung UHD TV. I have failed with the other brands....
mine doesn't! 50" smart TV 4k 2018
I can confirm the LG 55UF770V-ZB will not power on without the control board and power switch witch is sad really so I'm going to change the LED strip as per DIYPERK's video.
Can just the led array be powered up with a matching 12volt DC? power supply and scrap all the rest???
Hi does anyone know if it's harmful and how to make it less strong.
I made one of these using the power circuit board, of the tv, to power the lighting but it would shut off after 10 minutes of no activity, or signal, like a lot of tv's do. so i had to add a separate power supply. Is there a way around that I wonder?
If I'm not planning on reselling the speakers, boards etc. Do I need to unscrew the back and take out that stuff?
@@cgott42 you don't have to take the speakers or the board out
You still can "wrap it" with wire so it doesn't sag. You still would get uniform lighting..
Stiles
or make a glass front
Does it really feel like natural sunlight? It doesn't look like so from the video.
How much power do they need to run? Can you run them without the circuit boards?
So first of all we all have to broke our TV 😂
No. Find a broken tv for free
what do u did with the speakers of tv?
Removed them and listed them on eBay
Recycling Positive Mindset🧠
I always thought this could work. Now I know 😊
Yeah!
hey friend
I have Lg smart tv and its broken, so I did what you do in the vedio and its work fine but after 1 minute the screen turn off and it need to turn on again by remot control, how can I fix this ?
Great idea. Without the board, the light just stays on?
Yes it does.
Mine is small but it doesnt turn on unless vga cable is plug
I want to paint on what now remains of my broken 43’ .
Can I make the same thing with a simple computer monitor!?
It's hard to say. Most likely you will need to figure out how to get the power supply to start up
Yes I have. I mounted it on my wall and hung a pink Floyd canvas print on it
Just shocked the shit out of myself 😩
some of those LEDs run at 400V dc
😬
Please give credits where it's due, crazy how all these videos about making realistic artificial light no one is giving credits to 'diy perks' channel
7:02 I wish you watched the video before you started to type.
Great one!
❤
How much power is it using a year?
It uses a little more than 200 Watts.
I fix the broken LED light and I test them every thing was good.
After 1 hour using tv the back lights gots again dark .
What is the problem ?
maybe its like a standby mode, kinda like when your screen saver goes on with a PC, when there is no activity ??????, just a guess, try pushing the channell button ???
This is Turkish Accent 😏✨ 🙋♂️ hi there
I was disappointed because mine as many others have a timer that keeps turning it off.
Is that a 4 color demons shirt?
Number 8345 . Ant represent !
What do u need a lt. panel 4 big elec. Bill.?! Most important fix screens at reasonable price and get rich.
Music??????
This is like watching a bull in a china shop.
so basicly , you're telling me i have to buy a $ 900.00 tv, break it , and then i can make a light like that, oh well , let me check my account, i don't wanna look stupid when i go to best buy and try to get one , only to find out i don't have enough in my account
How did I "tell you" that? Let's read the Tile ..."I tuned BROKEN 4K TV into LED Light Panel in 15 Minutes" then look at the description "I was GIVEN this Samsung 65" UHD Smart TV that was FOUND on a Chicago alley. Anyway..... I thank you for watching and commenting, have a good day.
Seriously? You are worried about looking stupid because you don't have money in your account? You'd be stupid to buy a 900$ light fixture--that's stupid. (And besides, you can get a 65" LED TV for about 200.00 online if you look carefully--but that's not what this video was about. Now if you happen to have recently upgraded your TV or broken your old LED TV, why not recycle it into a light for FREE. Nothing stupid about that. Stupid would be tossing it in the trash because it stopped working or you got a new one. This happens all the time. So even if you don't break one, or get a fancy new one. Just keep your eyes open on the side of the road. People toss them all the time. Grab one and try it for FREE.
Its better to change into advertising name boards
