Super helpful a lot of videos don’t give a clear description of everything in the step by step process this video does a great job of that. Keep it up.
Thank you very much. I remembered when I had a house in Georgia I cleaned, by hand, the vinyl fence. The green pollen was gone and it looked great. Power washing would have been better. I like that you gave us the explanation of the knobs.
I've been cleaning the siding of my house for years, and there's no need to use any caustic chemicals to get the job done. Water coupled with the proper pressure is all you need.
Have now used this to clean house siding and it performed well ruclips.net/user/postUgkx43QMbQqu67IZadu9ou8Sg1BdrunMRNqX I also bought some wand extensions which enabled higher washing without needing a ladder. I recommend both. This unit arrived quickly, was easy to assemble (only had to attach the handle), and arrived in perfect condition. The only very slight downgrade from a perfect score is the design has a low handle and requires pulling from the side. My old washer was an upright model, while this one is more horizontal. Other than that, it's perfect for my needs. It has a great deal of pressure and more easily cleaned the house siding, porch rails and concrete than did my older model. The engine is a bit louder, as well, but the total time to clean was reduced by the more powerful spray. Did I mention it starts on the first or second pull every time?!! I am definitely happy with this model.
I started landscaping a few months ago and we do some power washing. I started power washing stone walls (the ones that are cobbled together with lots of voids). I wasn't using goggles at first and I can tell you they are a life saver. I had mud and bits of stone flying into my eyes and on my face. Although when I'm power washing flat surfaces that aren't close to the ground I don't bother wearing them. We don't use any added chemicals like muriatic acid, so I'm not too worried. I'm probably still an idiot for not wearing goggles all the time, but whatever 🤷
No .. vinegar doesn’t kill your plants or grass, (I use vinegar and water in my plants, and my garden for many many years’ and I have amazing garden, and vegetables) maybe you mean to say that the pressure of washing destroys the plants or grass, right, but it doesn’t kill them, as long as the vinegar carries the water with it! 👍
love the vid i watched when i was 5 i new own a power washing and landscaping job i all so use a j rod for getting up high and for brick or cement turbo
No extension? Start with the gutters/ second floor and work down? Do plants like vinegar? Be ready for the all the dirt coming off the building. Can create a mess on sidewalks, driveways and down the street.
Vinegar didn't clean. Neither did Simple Green. Any suggestions? Still lots of stains and I don't know why because NO trees immediately next to my house. Closest is probably 100 feet away.
@@suskagusip1036 I looked at vinyl siding manufacturer Georgia Pacific and they suggest some chemicals which I'm familiar with, but was hoping to avoid. Looks like I'll have to use. 😕
As long as you don’t spray any electrical outlets directly and they’re properly taped up you do not have to turn off the breaker. Do you turn off the breaker every time it rains? FFT
My two outdoor outlets have metal covers. And I thought the same thing about the rain. This video definitely had some misinformation, and I would expect more from "This Old House."
With a pressure tip on, for sure work downwards. For the low-pressure soap tip, it's probably safe to work up as long as you're not too close or spraying straight up
I can't believe a show that I've watched & respected my whole life would put up such an irresponsible video. They guy did fine (aside from the Vinegar, we use Simple Green as it is environmental friendly & doesn't harm landscaping or soil) until he started "Powerwashing" "UP" at the Vinyl. Washing "UP" at it does a few things; 1. I causes the vinyl to violently move which could break the tabs behind it that hold it in place. 2. Separate the pieces from one another. 3. & most importantly, introduce water to the substrate. On a house like that, you will need tall ladders and wash it straight on & down on it. You also need to do it slowly & deliberately, the haphazard way that was demonstrated here was cleaning the surface grime, but wasn't touching the oxidation, after it dries & the days wear on, you will see "holidays" as we call them or "miss" marks all over the siding. More importantly than that, if you're going to paint the vinyl, 100% of it needs to be 100% clean. Yes you can paint vinyl & it will last 10yrs + if done properly, this is the 1st step. About getting wet, wear a rain suit if you're worried about that. Judging by what we saw, I'm assuming the size of the rest of the house, but a Powerwash job that size with 1 machine, 2 guys (You need a helper & for safety purposes), that house would take probably 2 long days.
Simple green will indeed kill plants if the plants receive a strong enough dose. I once knocked over the bottle on the lawn and wound up with a huge bare spot! Granted, it was a large dose. The point is, be careful.
That's what I was looking for...the warning about never pressure washing vinyl siding from below because of all those issues. I was starting to doubt that it was a problem since, like you, I've respected this show all my life. But I'm glad I continued searching and found your confirmation. Thank you.
Never use tips provided by the power washer they are all too strong and will blow the siding up ...always use J-Rod Tips on siding. When ever using a solution of any kind always spray down foliage and soil with freshwater just prior to cleaning and again immediately afterwards to prevent burning.
I use the nozzles that came with it, your fine using them, just dot use the red one a foot away from the siding. I use the red one to clean the soffit from 10 feet below because it gives me more reach.
This was horrible. The pressure he was putting on that vinyl will strip all the protective coating off and leave "burn" marks. Downstreaming correctly with sh and surfactant then low pressure rinse, not like this. Come on This Old House!!

I agree. 1 gallon of 15% 4 gallons of water a squirt of dish soap or buy the good stuff from a pressure washing supply company. Then get yourself a proper down stream injector (after the pump). Stand on the ground and soak it down. 10 minutes later use the same soap nozzle and rinse it off.
