This type of small, medium spec bike is exactly what I'm hoping is going to blow up big time. Any size of 4-seater car is too big for my needs, but a bicycle is a bit impractical for my commute, and mopeds/scooters are speed restricted to near useless and dangerous levels in my country, so small motorcycles are really the sweet spot. Energica, Livewire, and Zero are too expensive, and most of them too powerful for my commuting needs. It's a shame how Sondors are bumbling their metacycle with false promises and ridiculous mismanagement, but here's hoping Ryvid are going to churn out a line of strong products.

@@7996hobguy It's a great idea in theory, if your theory is simply about making a more efficient commuter, however in practice it makes too many compromises. The width is too carlike so it can't be parked like a motorcycle and can't split lanes, yet it has as little storage as a motorcycle. It also has to be built as a 3 wheeler because the US banned quadricycles.
A better option would be something like a Renault Twizy or a Citroen Ami

My friend just bought one. I was with him today as he talked with Ryvid's tech support who could not decode the battery's flashing lights and beeping. He could not turn it off nor get it to move. He's been stranded 3 times and has only gone 130 miles. As with most engineers, they need significant adult supervision. His Ryvid makes him Lyvid. My Triumph, Kawasaki and Honda have never failed me with about 45,000 miles...

    • @geemy9675
      @geemy9675 Год назад

if weight is accurate and 0-60 is indeed in the 7s range, that's a huge performance difference vs the metacycle's 11-16s to 60mph with comparable rated peak power. maybe it's only with the shorter gearing but if it doesn't lag too much with the longer gearing, it's an indication that using a hub motor was a mistake. I'll take better acceleration, lower weight and better rear suspension vs silence and supposed efficiency advantage (that's probably negated by the current lack of Regen)

Nice review Micah. But what you didn't point out was that the bike will also be able to use public chargers using the J1772. This means that one can almost double his range. The box type frame will be able to attach various storage compartments as well as the central box of the frame can also be used for storage. This bike beats the Metacycle in acceleration, top speed, and distance. Sure it is $1,300 more but has so many more features. It is disappointing that the Metacycle promised so much more....which never panned out. No more quick removable battery, poor actual acceleration, and less distance than originally promised. Ryvid's changeable sprocket ratios is a plus. The hub motor is limited in it's low end torque and heaven forbid that a single magnet loosens up which causes the hub motor to lock up. The extra 6 months allows me to save up the difference in pricing. The new production model will have the revised battery latch, new drive pulleys, a narrower front portion of the seat, and gas tank cowl. On the pre-production gamma model, ones knees were hitting this portion. Thanks again.

@@Blox117 hub motors may have higher motor torque mostly due to being physically larger but once you factor in the lack of gear reduction and much lower rpms, wheel torque is actually lower. a 5kW sur ron, admitetly much lighter than a metacycle, also has very good torque from a stop especially with a large rear sprocket. metacycle is slow as hell on 0-60.
hub motors work well with small wheels like skateboards/scooters because there's no need for gear reduction
unicycle pricing vs electric motorcycle...well you get what you pay for. unicycle: a wheel, a motor and a battery...suspension if you're lucky. can't ride it legally on the road or on bike path. stability, braking, are not comparable with 2 wheelers. I guess at higher speed any efficiency advantage disappears due to poor drag coefficient too.

With the release of the second model, the Outset, on the platform, and the price drop on the Anthem, Ryvid will likely be the bike platform I start with. I can learn fundamentals of riding, on a strong but light platform, without most of the upkeep ice bikes require. I really only need it as a second commuter, if that, and an evening/weekend trainer for around the coast where I live. And that removable battery means it can charge upstairs where I live. I just need to save a tiny bit more for gear, and that initial insurance hit. Oh, and decide on which model to spring for. Man, it’s so close I can feel the wind in my helmet vents!

As cool as this is. The range is what gets me. Also my Suzuki TU250X is a perfect 24hp 250cc motorcycle that is like 1/3 the price of this and gets 200+ miles a tank, plus can cruise at 65 mph without any problem. It can also hit 100mph but that’s pushing it. 250lbs for this bike, while the Suzuki is 330lbs full tank I think. Heavier but still really light for a motorcycle. I can see the where this electric bike can be great but for someone who uses a motorcycle to “escape” on the weekend, or cruise with friends, this bike will just get me stuck with a dead battery because only 50-75 mile range is definitely not enough for that fun adventures that most of us motorcycle enthusiasts want. As a commuter it’s perfect but for that price range that’s breaking the bank a bit. Id rather buy a 400cc KTM Duke, or a Husqvarna Vitpilen or Svartpilen. Just sharing my thoughts on this, like I said this is a very cool bike. Just not what I’d personally be willing to invest in until the range is fixed and price adjusted to be more appealing.

    Once again:
Why again is a seat build so uncomfortable?
Isn't it the most important part on a bike especially build to be used by a human?
Will never understand such "design". It's a failure on most ebikes to me. 😒
Still good to see more and more reasonable, affordable ebikes coming up. 👍

The space between the battery and underside of the “gas tank” needs to be filled in: it looks hokey and incomplete empty like that.

I wish you spent more time recording the ride experience rather than talking over it. I like the look of motorcycles, but hate loud sounds. The idea of a quiet electric bike is very interesting to me. I would like to have not heard the bike more, if you catch my meaning :)
    That said, overal good vid.

What about an Electric Cargo Bike (like the now defunct GenZe 2.0 Scooter)? Most of the current electric motorcycles don't come near it's capabilities. Would love to see an electric motorcycle with a cargo carrier built in/on so that commuting on it enabled grocery pick-ups on the way home. PRACTICALITY in meeting real life needs would be useful.

At the price, I'd rather get the Svartpilen 401. I'd want this to be faster and at least $1000-$2000 cheaper.
I'd definitely pick one of these up used for a discount if I knew all I was going to do is short trips around a city.

what is the pro's of removable battery here? it should weight a whole tonne for that voltage, speed and range. So you cannot just pick it up and grab it to an office for charging.

    • @Snyphen356

I know this is 8 months old, but it has wheels and an extendable handle like luggage. If you watch a demo video, you never actually need to lift the battery without leverage to uninstall/reinstall.

Wouldn't the comparison be with the zero FXE? It costs about 25% more, but the range, and bells and whistles, reflects that. That aside, it is a great looking machine for a very specific purpose. One thing not mentioned is charging rate.
