Something I just noticed today after defeating Malikith, seeing the Erdtree burn during the cinematic, kinda looks almost exactly like Messmer's flame that he made in his hand
There's so much in the game that hints at some kind of cataclysm involving the Erdtree. Some have attributed it just the normal lifecycle of a tree, but when you get to Leyndell and see so much of it in ash, with house after house sealed... I dunno, it seems to point to something bigger. Excited to see what we find out (and don't find out) in Shadow of the Erdtree.
To me, at least, the mere existence of a “sin” in religion usually means that something must have had to occur to be later considered a “sin”. Hence, the “Cardinal Sin” of the Erdtree, implies there was certainly a historical event (likely the first burning) that influences the existence of a “sin”. Also, just like in the bible, the symbol of the snake in Elden Ring is recognised as a “traitor” as opposed to being born in evil. It had to once be considered within the context of the true religion to be labelled a “traitor” just like lucifer in the bible. Really excited to learn more about these historical events and betrayals.
